This is the story of the Hayden Family who left New York City in 1855 in search for a better life in Nebraska. Thomas Hayden, his wife Isobel, and their 3 children, Emma, Mitchell, and 4 yr. old Melissa, departed in the early spring. And the reason they left was simpleit was the gang violence from the infamous Five Corners. Thomas Hayden, famous for his expert marksmanship, led the family thru good and bad weather until they were halfway therethen tragedy struck! They lost Melissa to some unknown malady. After burying her under an old tree, they continued on with heavy hearts until they reached their final destination in Nebraska. There, with the help of the powerful Johnson ranch, they built their home. A turning point in their lives happened when ore was discovered and a town was built a mile north of their homestead. Under Thomass suggestion, it was named Johnsonville. The town was soon filled with people, including miners and merchantsand they were all thrilled and felt protected that Thomas Hayden was only a mile away. The ranch foreman, Hank Whittaker, soon developed sexual and romantic feelings for Isobeland she felt the same for him! But nothing was ever said or ever mentioned; they both kept it to themselves.. As the years went on the Hayden family, along with the townspeople, became friendly with the local tribe that was run by their powerful chief, Running Elk. So the only problem the townspeople ever encountered was the odd rowdy drifter and he was quickly escorted out of town. With plenty of ore still in the ground, everybody thought that they would live a good and peaceful life. They all thought nothing could go wrongthen the Civil War broke out! And, of course, President Lincoln wanted none other than Thomas Hayden. Thomas didnt mind, but Isobel did; because of her negative thoughts about most things, she figured Thomas would be killed and she would end up a lonely widow with 2 children to look after. Dr. Katherine McBride is madly in love with Thomas. Ever since that wonderful day in New York when she had begged her father to take her to see this marvelous 11 yr. old boy give a demonstration. She loved him so much, even though she was only 4 yrs. old herself. The irony is that she is so beautiful; most men would simply die for her. But the only man she could love was Thomas. Tormented by both wicked and loving thoughts about being with him, she knew it was all just a silly pipe dream. Covered in blood and working tireless hours, her dreams are about to come trueThomas Haydens division, led by General Masters, will soon be entering her camp! Much to the delight of Isobel and the children, Thomas was coming home safe and sound. Even the painful rumors about Thomas having an affair didnt bother her now. As time went on, the only major problem was that a gang of outlaws wanted to kill Thomas and held the town up for ransombut Thomas, along with Chief Running Elk saved the day. When kid grows up, he or she wants to be hero. And in the old west it was no different, young boys want to become a famous gunfighter. And that is exactly what Mitchell Hayden wants to beanother Vance Cordeau, the fastest gun in the west! It was decided by Thomas that he will teach Mitchell the system that his father taught him, simply because if Mitchell couldnt protect himself, then he would probably end up being killed. After Mitchell left, his reputation grewand became known as, much to the chagrin of Thomas, Mitch Hayden, the fastest gunfighter in the west. So, would Mitch get killed or become a teacher? And would Thomass farsighted hopes and dreams come true? Or would he have to move again to avoid oncoming trouble? Would the beautiful Emma really become an old maid? And how long can Isobel and Hank keep from having a sexual encounter? And will Dr. Katherine McBrides dream of one day having Thomas as her lover or husband finally come true? Read on! Many thanks, John Yeo
This is the story of how a peaceful and kind man can be driven to new heights by his excessive hate of a certain person. George Belvedere was such a man. After he lost his wife, his wonderful daughter, and all his worldly possessions, he didn't wallow in pity; his newfound anger kept him enraged enough to get revenge on this man who had destroyed his life. Being almost penniless and broken-hearted, George left for New York to do big things and start a new career, but he soon discovered that the name George Belvedere was mud and no firm wanted to hire him. For George this was just another letdown. So he kept telling himself not to give up--just don't give up!
New in this edition: REPENTANCE ON DEATH ROW. AN EXCLUSIVE INTERIVEW WITH SISTER GERARD, THE NUN WHO COUNSELLED THE TWO WOMEN ACCOMPLICES Singapore’s most bizarre murder case drew to a close on 25 November 1988 when Adrian Lim, his wife Catherine Tan Mui Choo and mistress Hoe Kah Hong were hanged at Changi Prison. After two children were found dead within a fortnight in 1981, the Toa Payoh ‘ritual killings’ proved shocking for the revelations about self-styled spirit medium Adrian Lim’s greed, depravity and cruelty. The confidence trickster persuaded numerous women that he possessed supernatural powers and they paid him with money, valuables and sex. He tortured his victims with primitive electric shock treatments that left one man dead. He was a monster who beat, slapped and kicked his women to make them fear and obey him as he acted out his every lustful perversion. He turned his wife into a prostitute and stripper. He made his mistress lure the children to their deaths. Sentencing all three to hang, the trial judges said of Adrian Lim: “We are revulsed by his abominable and depraved conduct.”
Lesson Study has been actively introduced from Japan to various parts of the world, starting with the US. Such introduction is heavily connected with a focus on mathematics education and there is a strong misconception that Lesson Study is only for mathematics or science. The introduction is usually done at the departmental or form level and there has been a strong question about its sustainability in schools. This book comprehensively explores the idea of Lesson Study for Learning Community (LSLC) and suggests that reform for the culture of the school is needed in order to change learning levels among the children, teachers and even parents. In order for this to happen, the ways of management and leadership are also included as objectives of LSLC, as are practices at the classroom level. It argues that LSLC is a comprehensive vision and framework of school reform and needs to be taken up in a holistic way across disciplines. Chapters include: How to Create Time How to Build the Team How to Promote Reform How to Reform Daily Lessons How to Conduct a Research Lesson How to Discuss Observed Lessons How to Sustain School Reform based on LSLC Strong interest in LSLC is already prevalent in Asian countries, such as Japan, China, Korea, Taiwan, Indonesia, Vietnam and Singapore and is now being introduced more in the west. This book will be of great interest to those involved in education policy and reform, and for practitioners of education at all levels.
Plundering the Egyptians focuses on the study of the Old Testament at Westminster Theological Seminary from to 1998. More specifically, it presents the lives and academic labors of Robert Dick Wilson (1929-1930), Edward Joseph Young (1936-1968), Raymond Bryan Dillard (1969-1993), and Tremper Longman III (1981-1998). These featured scholars were highly influential in changing the shape of Old Testament studies at Westminster through the introduction of novel scholarly tools and ideas that reveal methodological and theological development. Their individual historical contexts, scholarly contributors, and interactions with historical-critical scholarship are presented and analyzed. Modifications in their respective methodologies are highlighted and often indicate significant shifts within the Old Princeton-Westminster trajectory from an anti-critical stance toward a position of openness toward historical-critical methodology and its conclusions. The implications of these shifts within Westminster are important because they mirror the current change and challenges in evangelicalism today. Book jacket.

Cage's passionate, distraught and affectionate letters to Cunningham provide a vivid portrait of the start of their life together These early letters from John Cage to Merce Cunningham will be revelatory, for while the two are widely known as a dynamic, collaborative duo, the story of how and when they came together has never been fully revealed. In the 39 letters of this collection, spanning 1942-46, Cage shows himself to be a man falling deeply in love. When they first met at the Cornish School in Seattle in the 1930s, Cage was 26 to Cunningham's 19. Their relationship was purely that of teacher and student, and Cage was also very much married. It was in Chicago that their romantic relationship would begin. Cage was teaching at Moholy-Nagy's School of Design when Cunningham passed through town as a dancer with the Martha Graham Company, appearing on stage on March 14, 1942. Cage's letters, which begin in earnest a week later, are increasingly passionate, distraught, romantic and confused, and occasionally contain snippets of poetry and song. They are also more than love letters, as we see intimations that resonate with our experience of the later John Cage. Love, Iceboxtakes its shape from these letters--transcribed, chronologically ordered, and in some instances reproduced in facsimile. Laura Kuhn, Cage's assistant from 1986 to 1992 and now longtime director of the John Cage Trust, adds a foreword, afterword and running commentary. Photographic illustrations of their final 18th Street loft in New York City, as well as personal and household objects left behind, remind us of the substance and rituals of their long-shared life.
