Pursued and hounded like traitors who had betrayed their country, the Bents are in a race against time, determined to discover the significance of 'Prussian Blue'.

King Philip's War began as an ambitious attempt by a number of Indian tribes to drive the English from the Connecticut Valley. Their reprisals stemmed from the Wampanoags' frustration with and resentment over English encroachments upon their land and refusals to honor various treaties. Starting in June 1675, the conflict quickly spread from the Wampanoag citadel of Mt. Hope (today Bristol, Rhode Island), Swansy, and other Narraganset strongholds to Deerfield and Northfield in western Massachusetts--where the Indians scored a number of major victories-and to various Connecticut river towns. Hostilities ensued until the Fall of 1677, although Philip himself was killed in July 1676. Probably several thousand persons on both sides died in the conflict. This account of King Philip's War was compiled originally in 1712 by Thomas Church, the son of Colonel Benjamin Church, a leader of the New England forces. It was subsequently edited and annotated by the noted 19th-century Indian scholar, Samuel G. Drake.

As new advancements in weapons and tools of war are produced, so is the need from our government to come up with ways to protect our people and country especially our shorelines. This is where the new branch of the Armed Forces is created, the Aqua Marines. Scientists had recently discovered that sharks had evolved in our oceans to survive. One species, the great white shark, known as a solitary species, now hunts in packs. What was really interesting is that they had evolved differently in each coast. In the west coast, they hunted like lions do in a group called a pride with the alpha shark being female and in the east coast, they hunted and acted like a wolfpack with the leader being a dominant male. Our leaders and marine biologists were intrigued by the possibility of using these beasts to patrol and protect our shorelines. That was the easy part; the hard part was trying to capture these incredible animals without becoming part of their diet. This is where the Aqua Marines come in, trained totally to work underwater to track and herd these beasts into underwater holding cells where they could be studied in hopes of finding a way for them to do our bidding. Unbeknownst to the marines, other people had different ideas and with their knowledge to gene splicing and a total disregard for morals and ethics, a new superhero is born. His name is Stamper, John Stamper. So stay out of the water, The Frenzy is about to begin.

Myths and Discourses in Popular Westerns from The Virginian to Unforgiven and Deadwood

The politics of popular westerns are surprising in substance and significance, especially of late. Cowboy Politics shows how westerns in literature, cinema, and television face the challenges of Western Civilization even more than the perils of American frontiers. Its strategy is to compare key westerns with major theories of modern and postmodern politics. So it analyzes novels from Owen Wister to Zane Grey and Larry McMurtry. It focuses on films from the western revival beginning in the 1990s and featuring Clint Eastwood’s Unforgiven, while its interest in TV stretches from singing cowboys and Gunsmoke to David Milch’s Deadwood. Critics are apt to find in westerns the modern politics of Thomas Hobbes and John Locke. They tap devices of individuality, rationality, contract, sovereign enforcement, and representation to overcome the chaotic violence of a wild zone. Cowboy Politics examines how westerns often find such measures insufficient to tame the West as a culture of honor and anger that deteriorates into feud-al vengeance. Instead westerns see the West as the sunset land that is already growing old and moving on. So westerns seek fresh starts informed by comparing civilizations more than demonizing savages. Westerns worry that modern politics devolve into exploitation, oppression, spectacle, and terror. So they pursue supplements in such postmodern politics as republicanism, perfectionism, populism, feminism, and environmentalism. Especially westerns explore politics of persuasive speech-in-action-in-public, doing beauty, and self-reliance in the modes of Hannah Arendt and Ralph Waldo Emerson. The first two chapters of Cowboy Politics explain how westerns do political theory for popular audiences by making many of our myths: the symbolic stories of individuals and communities which we live daily. The next three chapters trace the initially modern theories of government in many westerns. Then western turns to republican honor, rhetoric, response-ability, and character tracking occupy the following four chapters. And these set the stage for another four chapters on western attention to postmodern terror, mythmaking, celebrity, spectacle, and forgiveness. The final two chapters analyze how “late,” “satirical,” and “transformative” westerns develop realist defenses for their surprisingly postmodern politics.
