Goodridge in Saginaw, Michigan, in 1922, the Goodridge Brothers Studio was the most significant and enduring African American photographic establishment in North America. When Philip Hart retired from the Senate in 1976, his colleagues praised him with these tributes: true champion of the consumer, missionary for civil rights, rare visionary of the country, fair adversary and gracious opponent, crusader for justice and a giant in any century. As a final tribute, Phil's fellow Senators voted to name the new Senate Office Building after him with the endearing sentiment: "the Senate seat will be replaced, but not the man." This book takes you on an inspiring journey from Phil's boyhood days in Pennsylvania to his death in December, 1976. The author, John Richard Willertz, became acquainted with Philip Hart while serving as Bay County's chairman of Philip Hart's re-election campaign for U.S. Senate. Thus began his 25 year labor of love writing this book. John's many private conversations with Phil inspired him as they discussed history, Catholicism and politics. This book is published posthumously by his widow, Jackie Willertz.
