A profile study of a worshiper: David, whom God said is "a man after my own heart!" And a look through the lens of David's life, the meaning and purpose of the Christian life!
Only one man in the Old Testament was given the profound description by God himself, "I have found in David...a man after my own heart" (Acts 13:22). Why? Why would God give David such a characterization? Wasn't he also a man of failure? Of contradictions? After all, today, he would provide headlines for scandal: adultery, murder, cover-up, and deception. And despite those issues, there are other pressing questions to ask: What are the qualities of one who has such a heart after God? What does that character look like? This book takes us on a journey in the life of David, discovering what God meant by such a divine inscription regarding the man who would become the greatest and most effective monarch in Israel's history. But we will also discover something greater. As we travel with David, we will soon realize there is a larger story unfolding through David's story. It's God's metanarrative, His-Story! We will find there is a deeper message from God that transcends David's life. The "key" that unlocks such a message is given to us long before David is born and spoken by God: "For those who honor me I will honor, and those who despise me shall be lightly esteemed" (1 Sam. 2:30). As we begin to understand the meaning of this truth, we will then learn why God gave David such a description. Therefore, it is through the lens of David's life, we learn the meaning and purpose of the Christian life. Why? Because God did not intend such a divine inscription for David only but one which our heavenly Father desires to write on your heart and mine as we pursue to know him.
Depicting the evolution of 20th-century Harvard in the broader context of national and world events, this text shows how changes in the structure and aspirations of American society led the University to remake itself after World War II, and to do so again after the social upheavals of the Vietnam era.

The 2001 edition (1st) was a comprehensive review of history, research, and discussions on religion and health through the year 2000. The Appendix listed 1,200 separate quantitative studies on religion and health each rated in quality on 0-10 scale, followed by about 2,000 references and an extensive index for rapid topic identification. The 2012 edition (2nd) of the Handbook systematically updated the research from 2000 to 2010, with the number of quantitative studies then reaching the thousands. This 2022 edition (3rd) is the most scientifically rigorous addition to date, covering the best research published through 2021 with an emphasis on prospective studies and randomized controlled trials. Beginning with a Foreword by Dr. Howard K. Koh, former US Assistant Secretary for Health for the Department of Health and Human Services, this nearly 600,000-word volume examines almost every aspect of health, reviewing past and more recent research on the relationship between religion and health outcomes. Furthermore, nearly all of its 34 chapters conclude with clinical and community applications making this text relevant to both health care professionals (physicians, nurses, social workers, rehabilitation therapists, counsellors, psychologists, sociologists, etc.) and clergy (community clergy, chaplains, pastoral counsellors, etc.). The book's extensive Appendix focuses on the best studies, describing each study in a single line, allowing researchers to quickly locate the existing research. It should not be surprising that for Handbook for the past two decades has been the most cited of all references on religion and health"--
Since the 1950s, men and women around the world have claimed to have had contact with human-like visitors from space. This book explores how the "contactee" subculture has critiqued political, social and cultural trends in the United States, Europe and elsewhere. Not merely quaint relics of the 1950s Atomic Age, contactees have continued their messages of transformation into the 21st century. Regardless of whether these alleged contacts took the form of physical meetings or channeled paranormal psychic communications, or whether they actually happened at all, contactees have provided a consistently relevant source of commentary on this world and beyond.

Rapala - the very name evokes quiet mornings on a mist-shrouded lake, family expeditions in a well-worn rowboat, and - best of all- the thrilling moment when a fish explodes out of the water. This richly illustrated book tells the story of a remarkable company and the iconic angling products they produce. Rapala lures are now sold in 140 countries and are more world-record fish than any other lure. It is the dominant company in a hugely popular sport enjoyed by 44 million recreation anglers in the U.S. alone - more people than play golf or tennis combined.
This book tells the story of how Mexican multimillionaire businessman Jorge Pasquel and the Mexican League hastened the integration of major league baseball. During the decade that preceded Jackie Robinson's breaking of the color barrier, almost 150 players from the Negro League played in Mexico, most of them recruited by Pasquel.
This aim of this work is to provide part of the basis for the study of a widely misunderstood people of Ancient Greece, the Aitolians. It is the people of any society who are its constituents, and only when we know who they were and what they did can that society be properly investigated. By accumulating a list of all known Aitolians, their origins, parentage, their place in the society, and any other details discoverable, it is possible to reconstitute Aitolian families, and to study various sections and aspects of their society. The prosopography and the studies based on it form part of the essential background for the author's history of The League of the Aitolians (published by Brill earlier in 1999), and they also form a contribution to the study of the society which was Ancient Greece.
