A most impressive 220-page edition of the first volume of "The Well-Tempered Clavier," these 24 preludes and 24 fugues were painstakingly researched over a period of 10 years, using the most important original manuscript sources. Baroque scholar Willard A. Palmer's thorough introduction discusses fugal construction, articulation and other aspects of performance interpretation. Volume I of "The Well-Tempered Clavier" has been updated with a new "look" to match Volume II. This essential masterpiece is a "must-have" for all pianists.

A newly engraved edition of the 48 preludes and fugues. Volume II for piano was edited by the noted Bach expert Dr. Hans Bischoff. It includes a table of embellishments and a preface from Dr. Bischoff. Kalmus Editions are primarily reprints of Urtext Editions.

Collected from several sources, these teaching pieces were published separately in the 18th and 19th centuries as the Twelve Short Preludes and the Six Short Preludes. Students are often introduced to these works prior to studying the Two-Part Inventions (Alfred Edition 22528). This unique edition includes the realization of ornaments and guidance concerning tempos and articulation.

This diversified collection guides students to develop stylistic performances of Bach's keyboard works. Among the 27 selections are numerous menuets, "short" preludes and suite movements. The introductory material contains an excellent discussion of ornamentation, rhythm, articulation, tempo and dynamics in the keyboard music of this master composer.

Palmer's edition of this well known work from the Well-Tempered Clavier is exceptional for the scholarship of its footnotes which compare various editions and their similarities and differences, as well as giving performance suggestions, and editorial additions in gray.

Dr. Hans Bischoff edited the Six Little Preludes of Johann Sebastian Bach, using the sources he states as "an old Hoffmeister printing as well as the editions issued by Peters. Dynamics, fingering, and tempo markings have been added, along with footnotes regarding execution of Bach's ornamentation.
