INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER! Life only really starts when we start serving others. For many people, military service isn’t simply a job. It’s a ticket out of a lonely society and into a family of enduring bonds. In over a decade of working with veterans, Johnny Joey Jones has discovered the power of battle-forged friendships. Suffering a life-changing injury while deployed in Afghanistan, he faced a daunting recovery. But coming home would have been much harder without the support of his brothers and sisters in arms. In Unbroken Bonds of Battle, Joey tells the stories of those very warriors, who for years have supported and inspired him on the battlefield and off. Through unfiltered and authentic conversations with American heroes in every branch of service, Joey tackles the big questions about life, loss, and, of course, hunting. Powerful life lessons are woven throughout these personal oral histories. Also included is a scrapbook of beautiful candid photographs from the lives of these modern warriors. A gorgeous patriotic keepsake, Unbroken Bonds of Battle reminds us of the costs paid by those who defend our freedom through unvarnished, inspiring tales of friendship.
Hung Togethertells the story of an election that made political history, and the first two years of an unprecedented Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalition, as told by the protagonists and as witnessed by two journalists with unrivalled access to events. Adam Boulton and Joey Jones were at the heart of the action during the 2010 general election and are able to draw on detailed interviews with all the key players to build up the most complete and intimate picture of how things unfolded. Hung Togetherbegins by looking at the election campaign and the pivotal events of the weeks running up to polling day - including the televised Leaders Debates (one of which Boulton chaired). More than a year after the election took place, Boulton and Jones re-interview the central political actors and analysts they spoke to during that pivotal time and incisively report on the development and consequences of this coalition government. Cameron's first year as Prime Minister, the government's domestic and foreign policy, the budget, and the balance of the coalition will all be analysed by these two ideally placed political commentators. Whether on the stump, while broadcasting live, or during tense discussions deep in the bowels of Whitehall, the authors witnessed every event themselves or know someone who did. And in Hung Togetherthey unveil a complete picture of what really goes on, a story that is at present shrouded in rumour and secrecy.

What happens inside Latin American prisons? How does the social organisation of prisoners relate to the political structures beyond the walls? Is it possible to resist corrupt penal regimes? In Prison Writing of Latin America, Joey Whitfield turns to those best placed to answer these questions: people who have been imprisoned themselves. Drawing on a century of material produced by Latin American prisoners from Mexico, Cuba, Costa Rica, Colombia, Peru, Bolivia and Brazil, Whitfield weaves readings of novels, memoirs and testimonial texts with social and political analysis. Rather than distinguishing between dictatorial and democratic periods of government, he shows that from the point of view of the prisoner, all states are authoritarian in nature. In the face of oppression, however, prisoners both 'political' and 'criminal' have found ways not only to resist but also to create alternative communities both real and imagined, sometimes in collaboration with each other.

This is the true story of Captain Fletcher E. Adams and the famous 357th Fighter Group. Known collectively as the “Yoxford Boys” the 357th was the first P-51 Mustang fighter group in the history of the “Mighty” 8th Air Force. Although active for less than two years during World War II, the group set many records and became one of the greatest fighter outfits the U. S. Air Force would ever send into combat. Between February 1944 and April 1945 the 357th produced more aces than any other American fighter group. They also shot down more German jets than any other group in the Army Air Corps during the Second World War. On January 14, 1945, a day that will forever be known as “The Great Rat Race” and “The Big Day”, the 357th Fighter Group shot down 55 1⁄2 German fighters in just over two hours setting a record in military aviation that has never and probably will never be broken. Among the members of this amazing group of fighter pilots were: Chuck Yeager, Bud Anderson, Kit Carson, John England, and others destined for fame. So was Captain Fletcher E. Adams, a native son of the small village of Ida, Louisiana. Then, on May 30, 1944, Adams, the leading ace of the 357th Fighter Group with 9 kills to his credit, was shot down over Tiddische, Germany and murdered by civilians on the ground. This is their story as told by the pilots through their books, diaries, and interviews with the author. Theirs was an adventure never to be matched again in the annals of aviation history. Find out what it was really like to go “to war with the Yoxford Boys”! “This book gives us the best insight into a tragic causality of WW II and the mystery of what happened to Captain Fletcher E. Adams. Joey Maddox’s use of other voices, quotes and investigative interviews make the story interesting. You’ll not only learn about Fletcher Adams but also the history of the 357th Fighter Group. I found the use of Adams’ personal diary, an illegal practice in wartime, particularly interesting to learn of his personal feelings during his training and combat.” Clarence E. “Bud” Anderson Colonel, USAF Ret.
People Would Buy Tickets is my first attempt at creating fiction. Do not be misled into thinking I am getting tremendously creative here. Realistic fiction becomes fiction only because I have changed the names of people and the titles of the places where it was necessary. I am still telling stories that really happened, only embellishing where I lack details or think it would be more interesting. The part of this book that is really fictional and dreamt up is in the descriptions and actions of the main characters, but I am still using stories from, and characteristics of, people I have known personally. That said, Heck and Count are wholly fictional characters, and are not meant to symbolize or represent anybody. When I began this project, the title of the book was, Count Is Clear. After careful consideration, that title works only if you are familiar with correctional jargon. I had intended some word play with the term count, and a main character, Count, but it does not work if you are not already familiar with the term as it applies to corrections, and the character. The title that I decided on, People Would Buy Tickets, comes from a co-worker, who does not want his name mentioned here. Many of you know my previous work, and realize that I was simply writing about things that really happened. There is not much writing talent in regurgitating, just a skill for translating real life to paper. The primary characters are all fictional, as is much of their background, but the inter-woven humorous short stories are mostly factual, if only slightly embellished events related to me by co-workers and my own experiences while working in the corrections field.

To be told you are unable to do something is a misconception. To spend your whole life trying to prove something is unfortunate. Mid-1800s. What we have here is a woman, a mother with children, thrust into a life-changing situation that is now out of her control. American law is viewed or looked upon like it has never been before. Buffalo Soldiers serving their country, stamping their mark on American soil, and earning respect from those who had opposed them-all these, strangers to one another
A book that proves idiocy is as old as time Think civilization has deteriorated and that people these days are dumber than ever? Dumb History proves that we didn’t invent stupidity in the 21st century. You’ll find facts from throughout the ages about everyone from Cleopatra and Napoleon to Elvis Presley and even NASA scientists. Consider this: • In 820 C.E., Emperor Hsien Tsung’s herbalist presented him with an anti-aging elixir—it killed him • In 1849, Brooklyn inventor Walter Hunt invented and patented the safety pin and then sold all the rights to his invention for $400. By the time he died penniless, the United States was producing an estimated five billion safety pins annually • In 1967, voters in the town of Picoaza, Ecuador, elected a brand of foot powder as their new mayor It’s a wonder we’ve survived as long as we have.
Discovering the Gospel in Everyday Living Walmart, Jesus and You is a challenging invitation to hear Jesus speak to you personally about the importance and significance of everyday events in your life. Today, many have failed to grasp the reality that Jesus has not changed His method of teaching. In the past, His use of parables helped people understand and apply Gods truth to their own life. Today, through Scripture and your own life experiences, Jesus can do the same. Have you read the Parable of the Buzzard, the Parable of Elvis, or the Parable of Walmart? You can find them and many more as the subject matter of this book. When Scripture is laid alongside a trip to Walmart, frustration with computers, ordering a hamburger, and other everyday experiences, you will know subject matter for parables is all around us. Then as you read the true life experiences of the author and what Jesus says about these experiences, you will recognize and learn how Jesus can speak to you using every day events in your life. You will develop a greater understanding of Gods word and grow closer to the master teacher. Walmart, Jesus, and You is easy to understand but will powerfully touch your spirit. With each chapter teaching a different life principle, the book is excellent for small groups and is useful to pastors, teachers, and others in the local church. Proceeds from the sale of this book will go to assist Southern Baptist international missions efforts through the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering.
Stories like Joey Giambras' have been attempted many times in many different styles. So what's the difference? This is the truth. The Gods' honest, ghetto style, Italian-American truth. Dramatic and intimate details about his childhood, life and death experiences, and life in the world of boxing controlled by the mafia. Rising from poverty during the Great Depression, to dining with royalty and celebrities. The book is finally here to reconstruct each and every moment of a man who would eventually be denied of the very thing he trained and fought so hard to attain. This is a story teeming with challenge, love, abuse, and family. Both kinds... It has a heart warming love story, a quality about the underdog makes good and the seedy truths about the controlled history of the boxing world feared to be told before now. The Golden era of boxing from the forties, fifties, and sixties... Famous and infamous Italian Mafia members trying to kill and then saving the young Giambra, despite him not joining the Mafia or playing hardball with them to throw fights for an eventual title shot... Mobsters, such as Vito Genevese, Carlo Gambino, Frankie Carbo, and Jack Ruby were all key figures in Giambra's career. He had real friendships with major sports figures such as heavyweight champions Rocky Marciano and Cassius Clay (Muhammad Ali), who was taught the "Rope-A-Dope" by the young Giambra. A middleweight champion, Sugar Ray Robinson, openly stated he would not fight Giambra for the title when he was champ! Lightweight champion Willie Pep and baseball legend Joe DiMaggio were two of Giambra's biggest fans! And being in Hollywood during the romantic era of the 60s, he acted in movies, such as The Misfits, and the television series, Mission Impossible and The Joey Bishop Show, a comedy series, and also had friendships with Ann Margaret, Marilyn Monroe, Clark Gable, and Joey Bishop. The original self-published book, The Uncrowned Champion, has sold over 100,000 copies since its release in 1980, despite not being marketed. A lot of material was left out of the original book due to sensitivity to subject matter, people, and many situations.(RE: mafia) This is the new book and is a tell-all. This book is a piece of American history. Told by the warrior... Joey Giambra
A Sourcebook of Performance Labor presents the views and experiences of collaborators in other artists’ works. This book reorients well-known works of contemporary performance and social practice around the workers who have shaped, enacted, and supported them. It emerges from perspectives on maintenance, care, affective labor, and the knowledges created and preserved through gesture and intersubjectivity. This compilation of interviews is filled with the voices of collaborators in notable works attributed to established contemporary artists, including Francis Alÿs, Tania Bruguera, Suzanne Lacy, Ernesto Pujol, Asad Raza, Dread Scott, and Tino Sehgal. In the spirit of the artworks under discussion, this book reinvests in the possibilities for art as a collective effort to explore new ways of finding ourselves in others and others in ourselves. The Sourcebook collection is a contribution for further theorizing a largely unaddressed perspective in contemporary art. This collection will be of great interest to students and scholars in performance studies and art history.
This true crime memoir of Mafia-controlled NYC goes from mean streets to shadowy back rooms and the glittering Copacabana at its peak. Joe Silvestri was a tough kid from Queens who went on to be one of New York’s most respected mafia muscle man. He worked security at the glamorous Copacabana, rubbing shoulders with the likes of Tom Jones and Frank Sinatra. He was there as a guest of Sammy Davis, Jr., the night Mickey Mantle and other legendary Yankees got involved in the infamous “basebrawl.” They called him The Fixer because he had a talent for making problems go away. He knew how to use his fists when necessary, and he always followed Mob protocol when having a sit down with an adversary: You never break bread with the enemy. Award-winning Mob author Dennis Griffin joins forces with Joey “the Fixer” Silvestri to tell a tale of a bygone era when organized crime dominated New York City. It was a place where neighborhood bosses controlled their turf, and your best friend might suddenly become your deadly enemy. It was Joey’s world, and his stories bring it to life in all its drama, glamour, and violence.

Joe Keithley, aka Joey Shithead, founded legendary punk pioneers D.O.A. in 1978. Punk kings who spread counterculture around the world, they've been cited as influences by Red Hot Chili Peppers, Green Day, Rancid, and The Offspring, and have toured with The Clash, The Ramones, The Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, Nirvana, PiL, Minor Threat, and others, and are the subject of two tribute albums. But punk is more than a style of music: it's a political act, and D.O.A. have always had a social conscience, having performed in support of Greenpeace, women's rape/crisis centres, prisoner rights, and anti-nuke and anti-globalization organizations. Twenty-five years later D.O.A. can claim sales of more than 500,000 copies of their eleven albums and tours in thirty different countries, and they are still going strong. I, Shithead is Joe's recollections of a life in punk, starting with a bunch of kids in Burnaby transfixed with the burgeoning punk movement, and traversing a generation disillusioned with the status quo: stories of riots, drinking, travelling, playing, and conquering all manner of obstacles through sheer determination. And through it all, Joe reveals that the famous D.O.A. slogan, talk - action -0 is, for him, more than a soundbyte. With an introduction by music producer Jack Rabid, publisher of seminal New York music magazine Big Takeover.
Throughout the world, high-profile large organizations (aerospace and defense, automotive, banking, chemicals, financial service providers, healthcare, high tech, insurance, oil and gas, pharmaceuticals, retail, telecommunications, and utilities) and governments are using SAP software to process their most mission-critical, highly sensitive data. With more than 100,000 installations, SAP is the world's largest enterprise software company and the world's third largest independent software supplier overall. Despite this widespread use, there have been very few books written on SAP implementation and security, despite a great deal of interest. (There are 220,000 members in an on-line SAP 'community' seeking information, ideas and tools on the IT Toolbox Website alone.) Managing SAP user authentication and authorizations is becoming more complex than ever, as there are more and more SAP products involved that have very different access issues. It's a complex area that requires focused expertise. This book is designed for these network and systems administrator who deal with the complexity of having to make judgmental decisions regarding enormously complicated and technical data in the SAP landscape, as well as pay attention to new compliance rules and security regulations. Most SAP users experience significant challenges when trying to manage and mitigate the risks in existing or new security solutions and usually end up facing repetitive, expensive re-work and perpetuated compliance challenges. This book is designed to help them properly and efficiently manage these challenges on an ongoing basis. It aims to remove the 'Black Box' mystique that surrounds SAP security. - The most comprehensive coverage of the essentials of SAP security currently available: risk and control management, identity and access management, data protection and privacy, corporate governance, legal and regulatory compliance - This book contains information about SAP security that is not available anywhere else to help the reader avoid the "gotchas" that may leave them vulnerable during times of upgrade or other system changes - Companion Web site provides custom SAP scripts, which readers can download to install, configure and troubleshoot SAP
Inspired by the events leading up to the overthrow of Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda's Life Presidency, this book explores the deep logic of Malawi's political culture as it emerged in the colonial and early post-colonial periods. It draws on archival sources from three continents and oral testimonies gathered over a ten-year period provided by those who lived these events. Power narrates how anti-colonial protest was made relevant to the African majority through the painstaking engagement of politicians in local grievances and struggles, which they then linked to the fight against white settler domination in the guise of the Central African Federation. She also explores how Dr. Banda (leader of independent Malawi for thirty years), the Nyasaland African Congress, and its successor, the Malawi Congress Party, functioned within this political culture, and how the MCP became a formidable political machine. Central to this process was the deployment of women and youth to cut across parochial politics and consolidate a broad base of support. No less important was the deliberate manipulation of history and the use of rumor and innuendo, symbol and pageantry, persecution and reward. It was this mix that made people both accept and reject the MCP regime, sometimes simultaneously. Joey Power is Professor of History at Ryerson University, Toronto, Ontario.
