In the book, Second Thoughts About The Second Coming, teacher, author, and systems engineer, Joe Reeves deals with many aspects of the idea of Jesus' second coming that are seldom considered by modern Christians; but, he does so from the standpoint of asking several critical questions. The basic questions he asks, and answers, in this book are, "can a book of scripture, at some later date, come to mean what it never meant?" Can a scriptural text, at a later date, come to mean what the author obviously did not intend it to mean to those of his original envisioned recipients to whom he wrote, and a meaning that the first recipients simply would not have understood? Then based on those answers, he asks and answers several questions about Jesus' resurrection, His resurrected nature, and His ascension. Then based on the biblical answers to those questions asks and answers the question about whether or not Jesus and the biblical writers predicted a "second coming." Using those questions, and the question of "specifically what would those first-century Christians have understood about what modern interpreters call Jesus' "second coming," as the basis for study, Joe uses his training and experience in systems thinking, Bible, history, cultural anthropology, and logic and philosophical realism to formulate a system of thinking that challenges many of the modern assumptions upon which the four most common doctrines about Jesus' second coming are based. For the person who wishes to learn more about how the first Christians would have used, and understood, the writings they received about Jesus' and His life after His resurrection, this book is a must read.

I wrote the story in first person; I wanted the reader to see what was written from each person’s point of view. Chapter One sets the foundation on the two worlds that are part of Richards life. His mother’s family coming from Greece in the early 1900’s. His father’s family having settled in America in the very early colonial days. We then go to each of the key people around Richard, see their lives, and their lives around “The Coney”. Like other short stories I have written, you always learn a great deal about the life of our family; the Harlan Line. The Coney first opened in 1921, this year, in June of 2021 will be 100 years open as a family diner. Another point is how Richard and I developed a closer connection, talking about our family, and life in general. My wife and I visited Richard and his family several years ago in Highland Park, Michigan. Our first meal together was at The Coney, we dined on a 100-year tradition of a Coney Hotdog, topped with the old family traditional chili that started back in 1921 - Bobby Joe.

Anger was the engine of justice in the ancient Greek world. It drove quests for vengeance which resulted in a variety of consequences, often harmful not only for the relevant actors but also for the wider communities in which they lived. From as early as the seventh century BCE, Greek communities had developed more or less formal means of imposing restrictions on this behaviour in the form of courts. However, this did not necessarily mean a less angry or vengeful society so much as one where anger and revenge were subject to public sanction and sometimes put to public use. By the fifth and fourth centuries, the Athenian polis had developed a considerably more sophisticated system for the administration of justice, encompassing a variety of laws, courts, and procedures. In essence, the justice it meted out was built on the same emotional foundations as that seen in Homer. Jurors gave licence to or restrained the anger of plaintiffs in private cases, and they punished according to the anger they themselves felt in public ones. The growing state in ancient Greek poleis did not bring about a transition away from angry private revenge to emotionless public punishment. Rather, anger came increasingly to move into the public sphere, the emotional driver of an early state that defended its community, and even itself, through its vengeful acts of punishment.

The African American Male School Adaptability Crisis (AMSAC) cannot be solved by the school alone. It is a race problem which can only be solved if we black males provide the leadership in tackling our three major demons which now mainly account for the problem: IQ lag-fatherless families-crime. AMSAC had its origin about 100 years ago when, after the death of Washington, DuBois gained ascendancy in our African American Garden of Eden and replaced Washingtons brains, property, and character gospel with a civil rights agenda. That agenda has led to a civil-rights fixation and our second bondage, Victimology, wherein being the victim has become part of our core identity and made us psychological slaves. Rather than being proud and self-reliant, disproportionately, we have come to see ourselves as victims who are entitled to system help and special treatment. This bondage and it is a bondage -- vitiates our manhood and the energy and drive required to pursue the adaptation pathway paved by Washington, but demonized by DuBois. Return to that pathway and we can confront and conquer AMSAC and our three major demons. Guided by history and the research evidence, this book details how. Its 20 chapters make for long reading, but, just by reading the first and last chapters, you can get the message. The motto of the proposed evidence-based experimental program, the African American Male Career Pathway Program (AMCAP). A special appeal is made to black athletes and entertainers to help propagate this motto and support the proposed high school student clubs (Student AMCAPs) in its implementation.
