This is a book about the relationship of the two traditions of Platonic interpretation -- the indirect and the direct traditions, the written dialogues and the unwritten doctrines. Kramer, who is the foremost proponent of the Tubingen School of interpretation, presents the unwritten doctrines as the crown of Plato's system and the key revealing it. Kramer unfolds the philosophical significance of the unwritten doctrines in their fullness. He demonstrates the hermeneutic fruitfulness of the unwritten doctrines when applied to the dialogues. He shows that the doctrines are a revival of the presocratic theory renovated and brought to a new plane through Socrates. In this way, Plato emerges as the creator of classical metaphysics. In the Third Part, Kramer compares the structure of Platonism, as construed by the Tubingen School, with current philosophical structures such as analytic philosophy, Hegel, phenomenology, and Heidegger. Of the five appendices, the most important presents English translations of the ancient testimonies on the unwritten doctrines. These include the "self-testimonies of Plato." In 1988 we presented our Guide to Bone Marrow Transplan tation. The reception has been enthusiastic and we have re ceived a flood of critical comments, suggestions and requests to provide an update in due time. Although several books on marrow transplantation have recently been published, their scope and goal have generally been different. Hence, we have decided to prepare a second edition of the Guide. Our aim was to maintain a short, concise text which never theless would incorporate changes that have occurred over the past four or five years. We have streamlined the description of pretransplant considerations, by condensing two sections into one (Treatment Planning and Timing of Transplantation). This also facilitated the review of controversial indications for marrow transplantation, for example in patients with acute myelogenous leukemia in first chemotherapy-induced remission. We have updated the chapter dealing with conditioning regimens and have expanded the section on donor selection, in particular in regard to the current level of tissue typing and the identification of unrelated volunteer donors. In the chapter on collection, processing, and infusion of marrow, we have incorporated recent developments, for example, the use of closed systems for marrow harvesting and processing and the use of solid phase separation of stem cells.

Stromatolites are the most intriguing geobiological structures of the entire earth history since the beginning of the fossil record in the Archaean. Stromatolites and microbialites are interpreted as biosedimentological remains of biofilms and microbial mats. These structures are important environmental and evolutionary archives which give us information about ancient habitats, biodiversity, and evolution of complex benthic ecosystems. However, many geobiological aspects of these structures are still unknown or only poorly understood. The present proceedings highlight the new ideas and information on the formation and environmental setting of stromatolites presented at the occasion of the Kalkowsky Symposium 2008, held in Göttingen, Germany.
The volume describes all compounds that consist of bromine and fluorine and/or chlorine and may additionally contain noble gases, hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen. The description of chemical and physical properties of binary compounds between bromine and fluorine takes up most of the volume, because this class of compounds includes BrF3 and BrF5 which have considerable technical interest. Especially the the oxidizing and fluorinating properties of BrF3 make it a convenient reactant for the preparation of inorganic fluorides. On the other hand, the diatomic molecule BrF is well-characterized by spectroscopic methods, but its chemistry is less known because of its instability. Other neutral species, such as Br2F, Br2F2, BrF2, and BrF6, only exist in matrices at low temperatures, and the existence of BrF4 and BrF7 is even doubted. Some of the ions, including BrF2+, BrF2-, Br3F10-, BrF4+, BrF4-, BrF6+, and BrF6-, can be stabilized as salts.
