Moore grew up in Northern Ireland and as a young man spent a number of years travelling throughout Europe while working for the British Ministry of War Transport. In 1948 he left for Montreal, where he began his literary career. While living in Canada he supported his writing by working as a proof-reader, reporter, and pseudonymous thriller-writer. He wrote his first serious novel, Judith Hearne, during a stay of several months in a log cabin in Quebec's Laurentian Mountains. After eleven years in Canada, he was awarded a Guggenheim fellowship and moved to New York. He eventually moved to Hollywood to write a film for Alfred Hitchcock and now lives in Malibu, California. Jo O'Donoghue identifies Moore as a writer particularly interested both in questions of religion and in a world he believes to have largely abandoned traditional spiritual values. Moore's Irish Catholic upbringing, she demonstrates, has located him in an enclosed, self-sufficient community with a strong sense of the spiritual. O'Donoghue regards Moore as remarkable among modern male novelists for the depth of his interest in women and the sensitivity and acuteness of his insights into women's psychology. Although Moore, in a literary career spanning more than thirty years, has published sixteen novels and one work of reportage and has won numerous literary prizes, he has only recently attracted the sort of consistent critical acclaim which is his due. The Colour of Blood finally secured recognition for him as one of the truly important novelists of the late twentieth century. O'Donoghue's study is the first major critical analysis of the work of this gifted and accomplished writer.

This study investigates cross application of the doctrines of good faith and willful blindness in company law in Delaware, USA, in comparison with company law in England, UK, with relation to company directors conduct. Here is the argument that courts in both legal systems under a particular set of conditions and hearing cases of company directors falling foul of the good-faith obligation should consider whether the willful-blindness doctrine sheds light on the interpretation of company directors alleged misconduct. Simplicius, the greatest surviving ancient authority on Aristotle's Physics , lived in the sixth century A. D. He produced detailed commentaries on several of Aristotle's works. Those on the Physics, which alone come to over 1,300 pages in the original Greek, preserve a centuries-old tradition of ancient scholarship on Aristotle. In Physics Book 5 Aristotle lays down some of the principles of his dynamics and theory of change. What does not count as change: change of relation? The flux of time? There is no change of change, yet acceleration is recognised. Aristotle defines 'continuous', 'contact' and 'next', and uses these definitions in discussing when we can claim that the same change or event is still going on. This volume is complemented by David Konstan's translation of Simplicius' commentary on Physics Book 6, which has already appeared in this series. It is Book 6 that gives spatial application to the terms defined in Book 5, and uses them to mount a celebrated attack on atomism. Simplicius' commentaries enrich our understanding of the Physics and of its interpretation in the ancient world.

Feminist concern with difference has rarely extended to rurality even if it is now widely recognized that experiences of inequality depend on intersections of several identities in each individual life. This lack of concern may reflect the urban background of the majority of feminist academics or at least their urban positionality once in the academy. It may equivalently be that feminists have been influenced by stereotypes of rural women as traditional and reactionary, and thus seen them as unlikely exponents of gender equality, and an unfruitful focus for scholarly energies. Perhaps the problem is a broader one, that is, reflective of the much documented, but still apparent unwillingness of many feminists to recognize and address difference in any of its manifestations. Regardless, even with the recent interest in intersectionality which has necessarily renewed and reenergized debates in feminism about diversity and inclusion, the question of how women are differently positioned because of their non-metropolitan location has remained largely overlooked.
