About the Book Mississippi Bones is a super-fictional expansion of experiences that the author and his friends had as children in Texas told through the lens of freckled-face fourth-grader Jimmy Jameson during his English class report. This mischievous—but lovable!—little redhead pulls no punches as he takes us on a thought-provoking journey exploring different perspectives of social and historical realities, which lie beyond the purview of political correctness. The author’s own experiences in a child psychiatric ward in the 1960s, as well as the arcane environment of the sexual revolution of the era, prompted some of the primary elements of Jimmy Jameson’s work, while also being filled with intellectual fun and thrills for the enjoyment of the reader.
Even though I knew how the story would end, I couldnt stop reading once I started. Jimmy narrates with attention to detail and with emotional vulnerability. I felt I was right there with him at each step of his journey. Carolyn J. Hansen, writer and creative director; Ajijic, Jalisco, Mexico Sacred Heart Attack gives an insiders view of a process filled with tension, fear, and miracle. You can just about feel the slushy cold mixture of iodine and alcohol cascading over the chest, hear the incessant beeping of the monitors, and sense the gratitude for dedicated caregivers. Locklear looks beneath the surface of one of lifes most difficult experiences to find the strong hands of God carrying him through each hour of each day. Rev. Claude Marshall, pastor, James River Community Church; Suffolk, Virginia Nothing is easyneither living or enduring and recuperating from a heart attack, as Jimmy Locklear writes in his insightful book, Sacred Heart Attack. Finding meaningand hopeis just one part of this story. For Jimmy also shows a commitment to not only his personal story but the story of others involved in this process. He does not give himself to despair or bitterness. In fact, he perseveres to the end. In so doing he invites the reader to join him in his story and to make it part of their story. It is a wonderful experience. Barry J. McLeish, author of Successful Marketing Strategies for Nonprofit Organizations; Deerfield, Wisconsin
In the 1920s, a few Cleveland women perceived a need for reliable birth control. They believed that health and social service professionals denied women, especially poor and working-class women, critical health care information. Any Friend of the Movement tells the story of these women, their actions, and the organization they created - the direct forerunner of a modern Planned Parenthood affiliate. The disparate threads of this particular tale include the suicide of a pregnant woman, the gift of a bereaved inventor, smuggling contraceptive supplies across state lines, and sponsoring ice skating galas to fund the work." "Any Friend of the Movement breaks new ground in the history of birth control activism in North America. Meyer argues that private philanthropy and voluntary action on the part of clinics like the Maternal Health Association (MHA) and their clients vitalized the larger movement at its roots and pushed it forward."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. In this delightful memoir, Jimmy R. Lewis does for the Ozarks what Garrison Keillor does for Lake Wobegon. Lewis has compiled an appealing and enduring love letter to Midwestern small town life of yesterday. BlueInk Starred Review In his memoir of growing up in rural southwest Missouri, Jimmy R. Lewis uses local newspaper archives and childhood memories to bring a bygone era back to life. Missouri Historical Review Lewis is a talented storyteller. Reading these accounts is like being at a family reunion, hearing lively talespreferably told outdoors in late summer, with the...jar flies, or cicadas, buzzing in the trees... Clarion Review - Five Stars (out of five) Lewis paints, in alternating broad and fine strokes, a picture of a small segment of the rural United States through difficult and prosperous eras. He has an eye for satisfying detail, and he thoroughly catalogs a colorful cast of characters... Kirkus Reviews Wheaton and Rocky Comfort, Missouri, may have looked like two sleepy towns in the mid-twentieth century, but they were home to an aging former cowboy who bested Old West legend Tom Horn in a knife fight, a faith-healing preacher who sought converts as a four-foot bullsnake slithered around his shoulders, and an air force fighter pilot who narrowly averted firing a missile that could have started World War III. Author Jimmy R. Lewis presents these and many other stories that offer insight into a piece of rural Americas history.
The Gothic has always been interested in strange utterances and unsettling voices – from half-heard ghostly murmurings and the admonitions of the dead, to the terrible cries of the monstrous nonhuman. Gothic Utterance is the first book-length study of the role played by such voices in the Gothic tradition, exploring their prominence and importance in the American literature produced between the Revolutionary War and the close of the nineteenth century. The book argues that the American Gothic foregrounds the overpowering affect and distressing significations of the voices of the dead, dying, abjected, marginalised or nonhuman, in order to undertake a sustained interrogation of what it means to be and speak as an American in this period. The American Gothic imagines new forms of relation between speaking subjects, positing more inclusive and expansive kinds of community, while also emphasising the ethical demands attending our encounters with Gothic voices. The Gothic suggests that how we choose to hear and respond to these voices says much about our relationship with the world around us, its inhabitants – dead or otherwise – and the limits of our own subjectivity and empathy.
Father O’Byrne blessed him “In nomine Patris, et Fillii, et Spiritus Sancti.... Well, my son what are your sins?” “I am going to kill Frankie Dalton.” The priest was shocked into silence, not sure he heard correctly. “What did you say?” “I am going to murder Frankie Dalton.” Father O’Byrne rubbed his forehead, “Did you say you wanted to or going to? There’s a difference, my son.” “I’m going to, Father.” In 1950s Ireland, the village of Garrydangan is divided and seething with resentment. The Land Commission has transferred farming families from the poorer districts of the west of Ireland to rich, available land in the Midlands. Frankie Dalton, the son of a local businessman, is a violent young man who targets the families of “Mayo migrants”. He shows no remorse for his actions and is never punished. But one day he goes too far and the Keanes want revenge.

Jimmy Magee, whose extraordinary memory for sports trivia has led to his being dubbed the Memory Man, has the distinction of being the longest-serving sports commentator in the English-speaking world. He started his career in 1956, the year that Ronnie Delany won the 1,500 metres gold medal at Melbourne. He has covered every Olympic Games since 1972 (the London 2012 games were his eleventh!) and every soccer World Cup since 1974. He achieved worldwide notice in Munich in 1972 when he managed to breach security in the Olympic village to cover the terrorist attack on Israeli athletes. This incredible scoop was picked up by CBS in the United States and then by every television station around the world. Jimmy Magee has been present at the most iconic sporting moments in both world and Irish sport and gives his unique insight into these major sporting moments. He tells how he played five-a-side football with Gert Müller, how he almost came to blows with Nigel Benn, and why he thinks Katie Taylor is Ireland's greatest contemporary sportsperson. But what is perhaps the most striking aspect of such an accomplished career is how Jimmy managed to find the strength to keep up his cheerful persona on air as he endured immeasurable sorrow in his personal life. His beloved wife, Marie, died unexpectedly in 1989 and his son Paul, himself a footballer and sports broadcaster, tragically lost his battle with motor neuron disease in 2008 at the early age of fifty-one. Full of anecdotes, humour and poignancy, Memory Man tells all these things and more. This is a frank, open and honest book by one of Ireland's most beloved national treasures.

Heart Journey was written as a response to many Christians who have spent years learning doctrine and gaining more knowledge about Jesus, but feel they don't really know Him. The book includes thirty structured reflections on the Gospel of St. Matthew. As you watch and listen to Jesus in a new light, you are invited to walk with Jesus as his disciples and early followers did and to experience his life and teaching from your heart. Along with the thirty daily devotionals, read Jimmy Locklear's inspiring stories of struggle, confusion and learning hopefulness and love from empty hands.
Writing a book can never be something that just happens. It takes time, dedication, and persistence to complete such a huge task. Being a full-time employee, business owner, father, uncle, mentor, friend, and so many other things to many, it would have not been possible to complete this task without the support of my family, friends, colleagues, and employees at the number of agencies, universities, and colleges I was afforded an opportunity to work with over the years. Each of you continued to inspire my writings and study of politics, social justice, community, education, African-American culture, and poverty issues. Finally, I give a special thanks to my two sons, Jimmy Dawson McCamey III and Jamey Lawson McCamey, who inspired me to write about black boys, black families, and the black community.
This anthology of Mississippi crime fiction “has produced a unique, delicious flavor of noir” with stories by Ace Atkins, Megan Abott and more (New York Daily News). From poverty to state corruption, Mississippi has a well-deserved reputation for trouble. Could there be a connection between its many misfortunes and its rich literary legacy? Mississippians from Tennessee Williams and Eudora Welty to Richard Ford and John Grisham certainly know how to tell a good story. Now Mississippi Noir offers “a devilishly wrought introduction” to a new generation of “writers with a feel for Mississippi who are pursuing lonely, haunting paths of the imagination” (Associated Press). Mississippi Noir includes brand-new stories by Ace Atkins, William Boyle, Megan Abbott, Jack Pendarvis, Dominiqua Dickey, Michael Kardos, Jamie Paige, Jimmy Cajoleas, Chris Offutt, Michael Farris Smith, Andrew Paul, Lee Durkee, Robert Busby, John M. Floyd, RaShell R. Smith-Spears, and Mary Miller.
Jimmy Jones is the guv'nor of comedy. He was the first adult comedian to break big in the UK. His uncompromising act made him a hero to hundreds of thousands of blue collar Londoners. He became known for his catchphrase 'kin 'ell!' and established himself as an underground legend -- in the process attracting everyone from rock's royalty to real Royalty. The Rolling Stones, the Nice, the Small Faces, Iron Maiden and Status Quo were among the many stars who flocked to his gigs. The Beatles played his tapes on their tour bus. His fans included fellow comedians Dudley Moore and Chubby Brown and soap star Martine McCutcheon. In a long and successful career Jones has told jokes to Michael Jackson, entertained the Kray Twins and performed for a surprising number of Royal Family members -- Prince Charles, Prince Philip and Princess Margaret. TV bosses hated him but Jimmy's outrageous comedy made him a millionaire by his 40s. Not bad for a kid from the rough end of Essex who grew up thinking he'd become a priest.
Strangely Rhetorical establishes the groundwork for strangeness as a lens under the broader interdisciplinary umbrella of rhetoric and composition and shares a series of rhetorical devices for practically thinking about how compositions are made unique. Jimmy Butts explores how strange, novel, weird, and interesting texts work and offers insight into how and why these forms can be invented, created, and stylized to generate the effective delivery of rhetorical messages in fun, divergent ways. Using a new theoretical framework—that strangeness is inherent within all rhetorical interactions and is potentially useful—Butts demonstrates how rhetoric is always already coming from an Other, offering an ethical context for how defamiliarized texts work with different audiences. Applying examples of seven figures for composing in and across written, aural, visual, electronic, and spatial texts (the WAVES of media), Butts shows how divergence is possible in all sorts of refigured multimodal ways. Strangely Rhetorical rethinks what exactly rhetoric is and does, considering the ways that strange compositions help rhetors connect across a broad range of networks in a world haunted by distance. This is a book about strange rhetoric for makers and creatives, for students and teachers, and for composers of all sorts.

This fascinating book explores Beat Generation writing from a transnational perspective, using the concept of worlding to place Beat literature in conversation with a far-reaching network of cultural and political formations. Countering the charge that the Beats abroad were at best nave tourists seeking exoticism for exoticism's sake, World Beats finds that these writers propelled a highly politicized agenda that sought to use the tools of the earlier avant-garde to undermine Cold War and postcolonial ideologies and offer a new vision of engaged literature. With fresh interpretations of central Beat authors Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg, and William Burroughs - as well as usually marginalized writers like Philip Lamantia, Ted Joans, and Brion Gysin - World Beats moves beyond national, continental, or hemispheric frames to show that embedded within Beat writing is an essential universality that brought America to the world and the world to American literature. This book presents an original treatment that will attract a broad spectrum of scholars.
