Fred watched the creature as it lumbered towards him. A green, monstrous two tons of fire-breathing, fanged destruction descended upon him. He did not move. His eyes never left the dragon. He waited. He watched. He gripped the handle of his sword more tightly in his right hand. He needed to time his stroke. He must be sure the dragons vulnerable unarmoured belly was exposed to his blade. He waited for the monster to take off. He counted the seconds in his head; one, two, three. The giant claws pushed the razor sharp talons into the air and raging and thrashing, the beast hurtled towards the solitary figure of the boy. Fred acted instinctively. There was no time to do otherwise. He dropped onto his knees, drawing the monster towards him, almost inviting attack. The dragon raised its head and, as it did so, its wings spread open in a gesture of triumph. The giant jaws opened and the blazing sheet of flame shot forth towards the small figure. As the deadly stream left the dragons jaws, Fred rolled onto his left side, feeling the searing heat as it almost singed his hair. In one movement, he regained his feet, stood up straight and thrust upwards with the weapon in his right hand. Now, dragons are impervious to simple steel blades. A normal sword will not penetrate a dragons hide, even its unarmoured skin will not be pierced by a mere mortals sword. But the sword that was in Freds hand was no ordinary blade. It was a magic sword which he had earned as a result of many trials and tests. He felt the magic metal push upwards through the creatures hide, felt it as it pushed through the tough flesh and into the dragons evil heart. The monster screamed, a high pitched wail which made the boy wince. Yet, he knew he must hold onto the sword, to keep on thrusting it into the dragons innards.

"Dewey in China" provides an opportunity to continue establishing "specific philosophical relationships" between Dewey and Confucian thought for the purpose of getting ourselves "back in gear" with contemporary thinking in the social and natural sciences. To this end, Behuniak critically assesses readings of early Chinese thought reliant on outdated Greek-medieval assumptions, paying particular attention to readings of early Confucianism that rely heavily on Western virtue ethics, such as the "Heaven's plan" reading. Topics covered include education, tradition, ethics, the family, human nature, and religiousness—thus engaging Dewey with themes generally associated with Confucian thought.

Business as usual turns out to be something else. When Tallgrass shuttles diplomatic staff out to the big cargo vessel, it turns out to be not as routine as expected. When a merchant tries to set up shop there, he discovers another meaning for business as usual. Business as usual a million kilometers from home has a lot in common with the business of greed and intimidation back on the street. When the aliens came, returning their stolen resources, Tallgrass thought it meant a bright, enlightened future for his people. When he finds more of the same old thing, he's tempted to forget about it and just do his job. Why should it matter to him who's running the business? Honest merchants or thugs and criminals, what business is it of his? It would be easy to keep his head down and mind his own business, but it's not likely to work out that way.

During an association with the Washington State football program that started in 1977, Jim Walden established a foundation of competitive expectations that helped spur the success of contemporary Cougar teams. Walden’s 1981 Cougars broke a 51-year bowl drought, and with victories in three of his last five Apple Cup games against Washington, Walden finally leveled the field with WSU’s cross-state rivals. Walden’s teams beat every opponent in the Pac-10 Conference at least once, squaring off against powerhouses USC, UCLA, and Washington despite a deficit in resources that he once described as “having to fight battles every Saturday with a really short sword.” He kidded and sparred with coaches like Don James, John Robinson, and Terry Donahue, while ticking off a few others with his outspokenness. He offered his opinions so frequently and frankly that his university president had “The Walden Release” printed and ready as a disclaimer for the press: “The opinions of Coach Walden do not necessarily reflect the stance of the WSU administration.” In Tales from the Washington State Cougars Sideline, the stories cover players and coaches alike, including Jack “The Throwin’ Samoan” Thompson, the colorful “Lone Star” Dietz, Bill Doba, and many more. I grew up in a large close family with nine brothers and sisters. My hobbies are camping, hiking, skiing, bike riding, fi shing, working out and spending time with my friends. I love the outdoors! I’ve done volunteer work over the years coaching high school football, little league baseball and basketball. Employed for the state of Washington for over 28 years working for the Department of Corrections. I like spending time reading to kids at the Residential Parenting Program in Gig Harbor where I got my idea to write children books. I do community work as a member of A. Philip Randolph Institute – Tacoma Chapter. Enjoy this book and take care of each other! Thank you.
