The use of functional brain imaging techniques, including positron emission tomography (PET), single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT), and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), has allowed for monitoring neuronal and neurochemical activities in the living human brain and identifying abnormal changes in various neurological and psychiatric diseases. Combining these methods with techniques such as deep brain stimulation (DBS) and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) has greatly advanced our understanding of the effects of such treatment on brain activity at targeted regions as well as specific disease-related networks. Indeed, recent network-level analysis focusing on inter-regional covarying activities in data interpretation has unveiled several key mechanisms underlying the therapeutic effects of brain stimulation. However, non-negligible discrepancies have been reported in the literature, attributable in part to the heterogeneity of both imaging and brain stimulation techniques. This chapter summarizes recent studies that combine brain imaging and brain stimulation, and includes discussion of future direction in these lines of research.
This book studies how the increase of visual representation of mixed-race Koreans formulates a particular racial project in contemporary South Korean media. It explores the moments of ruptures and disjuncture that biracial bodies bring to the formation of neoliberal multiculturalism, a South Korean national racial project that re-aligns racial lines under the nation’s neoliberal transformation. Specifically, Ji-Hyun Ahn examines four televised racial moments that demonstrate particular aspects of neoliberal multiculturalism by demanding distinct ways of re-imagining what it means to be Korean in the contemporary era of globalization. Taking a critical media/cultural studies approach, Ahn engages with materials from archives, the popular press, policy documents, television commercials, and television programs as an inter-textual network that actively negotiates and formulates a new racialized national identity. In doing so, the book provides a rich analysis of the ongoing struggle over racial reconfiguration in South Korean popular media, advancing an emerging scholarly discussion on race as a leading factor of social change in South Korea.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the First International Symposium on Computational and Information Science, CIS 2004, held in Shanghai, China in December 2004. The struggle was used politically in China during the twentieth century to foment anti-Japanese nationalism. Chinese historians categorized the battle as one of the Wanli Emperor\'s \"Three Great Punitive Campaigns.\" Contemporary Chinese historians frequently cite the campaigns as evidence of China\'s benevolence toward Korea. In Korea, like in China, the fight laid the historical groundwork for Korean nationalism, inspiring and exploiting nationalist opposition to Japanese imperialism throughout the twentieth century. Throughout the fight, Korea gained several national heroes, most notably Yi Sun-sin and Chen Lin (founder of the Gwangdong Jin clan). Anti-Japanese attitudes are pervasive in contemporary Korea, stretching all the way back to the 1592 Japanese invasions. During Japan\'s rule of Korea from 1910 to 1945, Koreans had to deal with a lot of hardships. This is mostly because of that.
