First published in 2005, this book examines the contribution of planning and integrated landscape management to the process of reversing the continuing deterioration of our natural environment. Planning for integrated buffer zones is important to conserve national parks, nature reserves, threatened habitats, other ecologically sensitive areas and heritage sites. This book begins with an examination of the role and nature of planning. It identifies the main types of planning problems and details a 'model' planning process that can be usefully applied to resolve them. Several theoretical and practical approaches to buffering environmentally sensitive areas are evaluated and a classification of existing approaches is detailed. Case studies are included to illustrate and test some of these approaches. The book concludes by recommending that integrated buffer zone planning should become a standard tool in real-life environmental planning and management. To facilitate this, an innovative approach to the design and implementation of integrated buffers is offered, including a step-by-step planning guide.

They include an overview of development and applications of parallel and order-N Density Functional Theory (DFT) methods and the development of new methods for calculation of electron dynamical correlation for large molecular systems. For small and medium-sized molecules, chemical accuracy of quantum chemical predictions has already been achieved in many fields of application. Among the most accurate methods are Coupled Cluster (CC) approaches, but their accuracy comes at a price - such methodologies are among the most computationally demanding. Two chapters review approximate strategies developed to include triple excitations within the coupled cluster and the performance of the explicitly correlated CC method based on the so-called R12 ansatz. The Quantum Molecular Dynamics (QMD) approach has revolutionized electronic structure calculations for molecular reactions.

This study is devoted to recent developments in Central European (especially Polish) political thought, and concentrates on the emergence of liberal ideas, a subject largely neglected by Western observers. It provides a clear account of protoliberal and liberal thinking in Central Europe both before and after 1989, a critical appraisal of the democratic opposition to communism, and an analysis of economic liberalism as its rival orientation. The author examines the changes which occur in classical liberal ideas when they are implemented in a region with practically no liberal tradition and no socioeconomic infrastructure, and shows how liberal ideas in Central Europe are becoming constructivist, functioning as the ideological justification for a new kind of Utopian social engineering that aims at constructing capitalism.

The Frantic operations were conceived in late 1943 during World War II, making Soviet airfields accessible to long-range American aircraft based in Italy and later England. Yet Stalin had to be persuaded by the United States to let them use Frantic to drop supplies to the Poles after the Warsaw Uprising began in 1944. On September 18, 1944, American B-17 Flying Fortresses, supported by fighter planes, dropped arms, ammunition, medical supplies, and food over the city of Warsaw. The establishment of Latin Christianity in Poland had a profound impact on its development, and this is the subject of the present volume. The articles range from surveys tracing the main phases of this evolution and the Church’s expansion between the 10th and the 16th centuries, to particular studies of parish organisation and the role of the monastic orders - above all the Mendicants, whose importance Professor Kloczowski considers has been much underestimated. In addition, he has also been concerned to relate developments in Poland to those in the neighbouring parts of east-central Europe, in Bohemia, Hungary and, later, in Lithuania, and to trace the ties linking the area with the West, and especially with Italy. La fondation de la chrétienté latine en Pologne a eu un impact profond sur son développement; ceci forme le sujet du présent volume. Les articles vont d’évaluations retraçant les principales phases de cette évolution et de l’expansion de l’Eglise entre le 10e et le 16e siècle, à des études spécifiques sur l’organisation paroissiale et le rôle des ordres monastiques - surtout les Mendiants, dont l’importance, selon le professeur Kloczowski, a été beaucoup trop sousestimée.
