Jennifer Brost felt she'd been beaten physically, emotionally, and spiritually to within an inch of her existence. While in her early 20s, Jennifer's mother-in-law and mother died I year apart. One & a half years later, her father was killed in a car accident. On this same morning, Jennifer went into cardiac arrest due to complications of a routine surgery; the child she was pregnant with died on this day as well. Through the deaths of her mother-in-law and mother, Jennifer consoled herself with three beliefs: 1) All hardships are good in disguise, 2) God causes or allows all suffering, 3) Little can be done to make life better (so sit back & relax). Strangely, as Jennifer faced the deaths of her father and son, as well as her own failing health, she felt unsettled about her three beliefs. She began to hate God and begged her husband to leave his seminary training.

Patterns of family life are changing rapidly and; with them, the role of fathers in parenting. Fatherhood and fathering are an important concern for every practitioner, whether they are working with fathers directly, with children, couples and families, or with individuals discussing their own fathers. Yet fathers are often neglected in research and overlooked in professional practice. This book synthesises existing and original research to provide a wide-ranging overview of the salient theoretical and practical issues inherent in working with fathers. Setting its analysis in a clear context of social and cultural change, the book highlights the importance of keeping fathers in mind at all times in therapeutic work. In particular, it: - Considers the practical challenges of engaging fathers in clinical work - Addresses issues of difference, whether of culture, class or domestic living arrangements - Draws on systemic, narrative and attachment theory to illuminate some of the key issues for practice - Discusses working with fathers from a variety of angles, including mental health issues in men, domestic violence, group work and working with fathers in prisons - Provides vivid and illuminating vignettes to illustrate issues for practice With its strong focus and emphasis on reflective practice, this is an essential book full of thoughtful and accessible guidance for trainees and practitioners in clinical psychology, psychotherapy, family therapy, social work and related fields.

Author Jennifer Rothschild has a story for you. It's about an unlikely couple, an unusual courtship, a beautiful wedding, and an illicit affair. Despite this situation, the marriage did not fail. It flourished. Here is the story of Hosea's love for Gomer—a woman who might have disappeared into her transgressions if not for the love of her husband. It's a beautiful illustration of the story of God and Israel. Believe it or not, it's your story too. God chose you and loves you. If you wander off, He will find you. If you are afraid, He will reassure you. If you are broken, He will restore you. If you are ashamed, He will cover you. If you give up on Him, He will not give up on you. No matter where you are, God sees who you are and loves you faithfully. Through the story of Hosea and Gomer, God tenderly reaches out to you and whispers, "My daughter, my name and nature are love. My name makes you lovely. Because I am worthy, I make you worthy. I am here to remind you of who you are. You are never invisible to me.
