When Jeff was young, he thought he wanted to be a rock star. But after years of practice, songwriting, and playing gigs, he began to lose the passion for playing music and instead found himself spending more and more time writing anything that came to mind—thoughts, short stories, lyrics. Throughout his time performing music, writing—his true calling—was waiting in the corner. Jeff has become known as a voice to clarify callings and bring out the best in writers around the world. Read this short piece, taken from his book, The In-Between, and get a better sense of how he found his calling in writing. Moody Collective Portions are short pieces of content taken from our full-length books. Our goal is to introduce our readers to a complete idea in a brief, concise, and inexpensive format. Dreams do come true. It’s Jude's job to make sure they don’t. Born with the curse of prophetic nightmares, Jude sees violent murders through the eyes of the killer before they happen. His father, who shares Jude’s dark gift, has trained Jude since birth to save the innocent and to kill the killer. A life for a life—it’s the only way. But everything goes awry when Hanna Smith, the young woman he was supposed to save, rescues herself instead, and catches Jude in her home. Fate isn’t inescapable, but it demands balance. While Hanna may be safe for now, Jude knows that the killer will strike again, only next time there will be no warning. Jude must now find the killer on his own, without the visions to aid him, in order to carry out the task he’s been training for before it’s too late.
The phrase “answering the call” can be interpreted in many different ways—answering the call of duty, answering the call on a phone, or answering the call that comes with the responsibility of being a parent or, in this case, a father. As a father, I never wanted to experience the emotions of shock, confusion, and grief that cascaded into total devastation. But that’s exactly what happened the day I answered that call. When life ends prematurely, we must choose how to respond. All things changed, all timelines changed, and when I look back and remember certain events that have occurred, I preface them by saying that happened before or that happened after the call I received about my son Rob. Most people don’t know what a Gold Star Family organization is. I knew it was an honorable organization, but I didn’t know much more than that. Membership cannot be purchased. It cannot be inherited, and you can’t join on your own. Membership is gained only through the tragic loss of an immediate family member during combat, the loss of someone who was brave enough to serve our country and pay the ultimate sacrifice. I knew I never wanted to be a member of such an honorable organization, and I’m sure no one else does either. However, my family and I became a member of the Gold Star Families on March 13, 2007, the very day I answered the call. We are a genuine blended American family with three military children. As most blended families, we have a complex set of dynamics and challenges, but we try to work through them with love and sometimes in a messy way. There is no normal in our lives anymore. Someone once said, “Normal is just a setting on a dryer.” And I couldn’t agree more. This is my journey of shock, grief, devastation, and finally closure. A journey which portrays deep love, deep pain, and deep faith. And this horrific journey started the day that I answered the call.
Is God calling me? It’s the foundational question that must be answered by anyone considering entry into ministry leadership and then revisited regularly over a lifetime. Writing to a student and young adult audience—although applicable to leaders of all ages—Iorg declares the purpose of his brief, yet powerful book: “God is calling out a new generation of kingdom leaders who will accelerate the fulfillment of the Great Commission in this generation. My goal is to cut to the heart of the matter and give you tools to work through the call process.” Endorsements Jeff Iorg offers a personal, practical, and rich exploration of God’s call to ministry in Is God Calling Me? —Paul Chitwood, President, International Mission Board No matter where you are on your faith journey, this book provides an excellent guide as you ask God how He might use you to share the gospel and build strong churches. —Kevin Ezell, President, North American Mission Board

Challenges, equips, and inspires fathers of children with special needs Becoming the father of a child with special needs can feel like being drafted into the military--and starting duty as a general. Dad is expected to know how to set rules and run drills without any training in leadership. And there are very few resources for men who want to be involved but need guidance and specific ideas. Overwhelmed, many fathers end up going AWOL on their families. As a twenty-year veteran of special-needs parenting, Jeff Davidson wrote a field manual to give fathers the skills required for the day-to-day demands of parenting. Jeff helps men discover God's new mission for their lives in each of five specific roles: warrior, protector, provider, encourager, and equipper. He offers rich, real-life examples from dads in the field and a no-nonsense approach from initial diagnosis onward. This book is filled with practical how-tos for parenting in the special needs world, bullet points for easy reading and quick reference, and a Mission Critical synopsis at the end of each chapter. Informal and task-oriented, Common Man, Extraordinary Call offers growth and hope for men with little free time. And as they process their instructions, they'll be able to mentor other fathers, creating a strong army of men who not only survive but thrive as capable dads to their children with special needs.

The dot.com crash of 2000 was a wake-up call, and told us that the Web has far to go before achieving the acceptance predicted for it in '95. A large part of what is missing is quality; a primary component of the missing quality is usability. The Web is not nearly as easy to use as it needs to be for the average person to rely on it for everyday information, commerce, and entertainment. In response to strong feedback from readers of GUI BLOOPERS calling for a book devoted exclusively to Web design bloopers, Jeff Johnson calls attention to the most frequently occurring and annoying design bloopers from real web sites he has worked on or researched. Not just a critique of these bloopers and their sites, this book shows how to correct or avoid the blooper and gives a detailed analysis of each design problem. Hear Jeff Johnson's interview podcast on software and website usability at the University of Canterbury (25 min.) Discusses in detail 60 of the most common and critical web design mistakes, along with the solutions, challenges, and tradeoffs associated with them. Covers important subject areas such as: content, task-support, navigation, forms, searches, writing, link appearance, and graphic design and layout. Organized and formatted based on the results of its own usability test performed by web designers themselves. Features its own web site (www.web-bloopers.com)with new and emerging web design no-no's (because new bloopers are born every day) along with a much requested printable blooper checklist for web designers and developers to use.
