Provides comprehensive coverage of the most recent developments in the theory of non-Archimedean pseudo-differential equations and its application to stochastics and mathematical physics--offering current methods of construction for stochastic processes in the field of p-adic numbers and related structures. Develops a new theory for parabolic equat
The purpose of this 4-volume book is to examine some of the applications of lasers in polymer science and technology. Now available for the first time, up-to-date information on this fascinating subject is compiled and presented in compact form. This book focuses on current research and developments in the application of lasers in polymer and biopolymer chemistry. It includes experimental and theoretical details, apparatus, techniques, and applications. This book is a useful source for researchers, students, polymer chemists, and physicists involved in this astonishing field of high technology.
This book provides a comprehensive description of the principles and applications of positron and positronium chemistry. Pedagogical and tutorial in nature, it will be ideal for graduate students and researchers in the area of positron annihilation spectroscopy. The contributing authors are authoritative scientists prominent in the frontiers of research, actively pursuing positron annihilation research on chemical and applied systems. Contents: Introduction to Positron and Positronium Chemistry (Y C Jean et al.); Compounds of Positrons and Positronium (D M Schrader); Experimental Techniques in Positron Spectroscopy (P G Coleman); Organic and Inorganic Chemistry of the Positron and Positronium (G Duplotre & I Billard); Physical and Radiation Chemistry of the Positron and Positronium (S V Stepanov & V M Byakov); Positrons and Positronium in the Gas Phase (D M Schrader); Positron Porosimetry (M H Weber & K G Lynn); Positron Annihilation Studies on Superconducting Materials (C S Sundar); Positronium in Si and SiO 2 Thin Films (R Suzuki); Applications to Polymers (P E Mallon); Applications of Slow Positrons to Polymeric Surfaces and Coatings (Y C Jean et al.); Positron Annihilation Induced Auger Spectroscopy (S Amdani et al.); Characterization of Nanoparticle and Nanopore Materials (J Xu); AMOC in Positron and Positronium Chemistry (H Stoll et al.). Readership: Materials science researchers; physical chemists; polymer scientists and engineers; chemical and mechanical engineers; solid state physicists; graduate students in chemistry, physics, engineering and polymer science; coating industry researchers.
Hydrocarbons and their derivatives (oxygenated and chlorinated, in particular), both natural and xenobiotic, represent a very large class of compounds whose conversions and degradation by microorganisms cover an extremely rich field, whose concepts are detailed in this book. The fascinating evolution of these concepts over the last twenty years has revealed the extent of the processes implemented in the environment and has multiplied their industrial applications. The resulting achievements and the current developments are described in this book. The English edition of this reference manual is an entirely revised and updated version of the French edition. It is intended for professionals, microbiologists and chemists, as well as scientists, engineers, teachers and post-doctoral researchers, who are interested by the conversions of hydrocarbons and by microbial ecology. The French edition of this book was awarded a special mention for engineering education text book by the Roberval Prize committee in 2007.

ABOUT THE BOOK I’d stumbled upon Randy Pausch, a youngish professor from Carnegie Mellon University, quite by accident in 2011. I’d been looking for a good PowerPoint presentation about time management, and the one he gave was deemed to be really interesting, according to the Google searches I’d done. As I read the mini-bio attached to the file, it occurred to me that I’d heard the name before, so I did some further searching and realized he had written “The Last Lecture”, which I’d heard so much about a few years ago. I immediately headed out and picked up a copy. As I read, I was stunned by the powerful simplicity of his writing. I had already watched “The Last Lecture” on YouTube, as millions had during the time in which the presentation had gone viral, but I was surprised at the profound effect the book had on me. This was a man who, by all accounts, had everything going for him: a great job that he loved, three very young children and a beautiful wife whom he adored. MEET THE AUTHOR Christina St-Jean an Ontario English teacher with a great passion for American literature in particular and the written word in general. Her two daughters, aged 3 and 7, also seem to have a love of books, as her 7 year old just started reading Tom Sawyer herself. Christina follows global events as closely as she can but also enjoys entertainment news. Currently, she is working towards a black belt in karate. EXCERPT FROM THE BOOK If anything, The Last Lecture showed to the world just how pervasive media attention is today; after the lecture itself became a YouTube sensation, Pausch made appearances on The Oprah Winfrey Show and Prime Time Live with Diane Sawyer, in addition to appearing on Time’s Top 100 list of the world’s most influential people for 2008. He drew the attention of Katie Couric, The Wall Street Journal’s Jeffrey Zaslow, director J.J. Abrams, and none other than Captain Kirk himself, William Shatner. He testified before Congress to encourage more funding to be directed to pancreatic cancer research and received a letter from the original President Bush. Buy a copy to keep reading!
