The main themes presented in this volume are exercise intolerance and muscle contracture. These two topics could seem different at first sight but share common clinical features. For instance, symptoms of exercise intolerance are myalgias and cramps but metabolic contractures as well. Likewise exercise intolerance is sometimes due to dystrophinopathy, it self causing contractures. Therefore, it is justified to gather these two syn dromes in one study. Exercise intolerance and muscle contracture could seem well known, even obsolete. It is not right. A reappraisal of these has be come necessary for two reasons. First of all there are many new causes of exercise intolerance; secondly, the pathophysiology remains ob scure in particular for muscle contracture and a clear classification is probably possible. There is no book devoted to exercise intolerance and muscle contrac ture. This volume is divided in two parts related to the above topics. The two sections are introduced by a didactic and general overview, describ ing the main symptoms, classification and classical etiology. The other chapters, written by the best experts, present the recent advances in these syndromes and show many new aspects: new glycogenosis or mitochondriopathies, dystrophinopathies, malignant hyperthermia, my otonic disorders. Pathophysiology and classification of persistent con tractures are described as well as therapy. Each chapter is thoroughly referenced, representing important progress in research in the field.

The marine environment, in addition to a not insignificant background of "natural" radioactivity, has continued to receive inputs of radionuclides directly or indirectly through atomic fallout, discharges from the nuclear industry or from nuclear accidents. After their introduction, the fate of these radionuclides is complex with modifications of physicochemical forms, dispersion in marine water masses and adsorption onto sedimentary particles. Marine organisms then bioaccumulate these radionuclides to a greater or lesser extent, dispersing them via their burrowing activities, horizontal and vertical migrations or through food webs. All of these phenomena lead to very variable radioactive contamination, depending on location and the nature of the marine environments concerned, and consequently, to very different doses of irradiation to marine organisms. The harmful effects of ionizing radiation on living marine organisms are felt at varying levels of biological organization from the molecule to the ecosystem, passing through the cell, the organ, the individual and the population. In the end, the radioactive risk for marine organisms can decline according to several situations, which can be normal, programmed or accidental.

This book is a book of information and training, a reference book that should be read as an educational tool on the attacks of September 11, 2001, while allowing a better understanding of the thought and philosophy of the leader of al-Qaeda. Through the play of fiction, the author hides behind the New York prosecutor to present the elements of the prosecution and asks the court to convict bin Laden, FBI one of the most wanted terrorists.

This book is about the relationship between citizens and the state. Their relationship has tended to be argued from a top down perspective without systematically examining empirical data about their association. In contrast, Citizens and the State, analyses the relationship from a primarily bottom up standpoint. Using the 18 country cross-national survey (the Asia-Europe Survey) data it examines how citizens relate themselves to the state. Featuring case studies on France, Germany, Spain, Sweden, Britain, Taiwan, Japan, Indonesia, Greece, Italy, Korea, the Philippines, Portugal, Ireland, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and China, the book systematically examines the relationship by asking three questions: how strongly do citizens identify themselves to the country? how much confidence do citizens place in the state and its institutions? how satisfied are citizens with life and politics? Innovatively, the book attempts to answer these questions by first setting up six types of relationship between citizens and the state via factor analysis of the survey data pertaining identity, confidence and satisfaction then by examining country profiles more closely and beyond the six types. The book will be of interest to students and researcher of political science, political theory, comparative political science, Asian Studies, European Studies and sociology.
