Han YA', (768-824), sometimes called Han Changli, was born in Nanyang, Henan, China, was a precursor of Neo-Confucianism as well as an essayist and poet, during the Tang dynasty. The Indiana Companion calls him comparable in stature to Dante, Shakespeare or Goethe for his influence on the Chinese literary tradition. He stood for strong central authority in politics and orthodoxy in cultural matters. An orphan, he went to Chang'an in 786, but needed four attempts to pass the jinshi exam, finally succeeding in 791. In the last few years of the 8th. Century, he began to form the literary circle which spread his influence so widely. He gained his first central government position in 802, but was soon exiled.

Base stations developed according to the 3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE) standard require unprecedented processing power. 3GPP LTE enables data rates beyond hundreds of Mbits/s by using advanced technologies, necessitating a highly complex LTE physical layer. The operating power of base stations is a significant cost for operators, and is currently optimized using state-of-the-art hardware solutions, such as heterogeneous distributed systems. The traditional system design method of porting algorithms to heterogeneous distributed systems based on test-and-refine methods is a manual, thus time-expensive, task. Physical Layer Multi-Core Prototyping: A Dataflow-Based Approach provides a clear introduction to the 3GPP LTE physical layer and to dataflow-based prototyping and programming. The difficulties in the process of 3GPP LTE physical layer porting are outlined, with particular focus on automatic partitioning and scheduling, load balancing and computation latency reduction, specifically in systems based on heterogeneous multi-core Digital Signal Processors. Multi-core prototyping methods based on algorithm dataflow modeling and architecture system-level modeling are assessed with the goal of automating and optimizing algorithm porting. With its analysis of physical layer processing and proposals of parallel programming methods, which include automatic partitioning and scheduling, Physical Layer Multi-Core Prototyping: A Dataflow-Based Approach is a key resource for researchers and students. The few, and generally obsolete Tagalog words of Arabic and/or Persian origin that can be found in old and modern dictionaries are fragments from a period when they must have been more numerous, although their number cannot ever have been very large. Some illustrate how Manila was an outpost of the Bornean polity based in Brunei, itself a part of the Indo-Javanese system, while others point at direct contacts with traders who spoke some varieties of Arabic, but were probably Indians, Persians, Armenians from Persia or even Turks. Thus these terms entered Tagalog over a very long period that lasted until the 19th Century.

In the summer and fall of 1964, a massacre took place in the small town of Jérémie, Haiti. After an ill-fated uprising, the brutal regime of François “Papa Doc” Duvalier ordered reprisals against the town that some of the insurgents were allegedly from. Entire families—all from the town’s upper class—were slaughtered. Through a rich historical ethnography of the massacre, Jean-Philippe Belleau offers a new account of the workings of the Duvalier regime and an innovative analysis of anti-elite violence. Killing the Elites meticulously reconstructs the various phases of the massacre, identifying the victims and perpetrators, tracing the social ties that linked them, and examining the varying degrees of culpability from the state to bystanders. Although Duvalier and the military were responsible, the killings were attributed to popular social grievances. Examining how the Haitian state has brutalized the upper classes, Belleau develops a new theory of anti-elite violence. He challenges views that ideology or social difference can readily drive people to kill their neighbors and that the upper classes fall victim to popular rough justice, showing that social bonds within the town prevented organized violence from spreading. The state, Belleau underscores, is the primary perpetrator of violence against elites. Drawing on interviews with eyewitnesses and former regime members as well as a wide range of unexplored primary sources, this book provides a new lens on Haiti under Duvalier and reveals why the victimization of the elite is essential to mass violence.

His latest book, The Trial of Osama bin Laden, is a narrative with historical facts, of course, but written in a novelistic style. This book is a book of information and training, a reference book that should be read as an educational tool on the attacks of September 11, 2001, while allowing a better understanding of the thought and philosophy of the leader of al-Qaeda. Through the play of fiction, the author hides behind the New York prosecutor to present the elements of the prosecution and asks the court to convict bin Laden, FBI one of the most wanted terrorists.
