• Nearly 100 backcountry ski routes—most located in the central Wasatch • Written by a ski-obsessed outdoor journalist • Both day trips and overnights included Jared Hargrave averages more than 70 ski days a year, which adds up to a ton of local knowledge. He's exactly the ski partner you'd want to show you the best backcountry routes, from those you can hit on a pre-work dawn patrol to multiday overnight trips. Backcountry Ski & Snowboard Routes: Utah includes tours in the central Wasatch as well as the Uintas, Henry Mountains, and more. As with all books in this series, this Utah guide is designed for intermediate to expert skiers or boarders. Each route includes the following elements: • Detailed route description • Driving directions from nearest major town or junction • Trip rating • Trail distance • Estimated trip time • Skill level • Recommended season • Avalanche routefinding notes • Map/permit info • Starting point elevation • High point elevation • Alternate route options The guide also includes resources for avalanche, weather, and road conditions; land managers relevant to the routes; ski/snow reports; and general safety information, as well as a foreword by one of Utah's premier avalanche experts, Craig Gordon.
Park City, Utah, is the world’s first International Mountain Biking Association (IMBA) gold-level ride center. Already famous for its ski resort, the city features over 400 miles of singletrack. Its mountain-bike friendly infrastructure includes two lift-serviced, downhill mountain bike parks (Deer Valley and Park City Resort); a free, bike-friendly shuttle system; and numerous outdoor shops that rent and sell gear. But it’s the singletrack network around Park City that is the real attraction--epic ascents and descents, long traverses, technical sections, man-made features, steep climbs, gentle grades, flowing downhills, and stunning views. There’s a ride here for every ability! Each route includes: Trail type, distance, elevation gain/loss, high point Estimated ride time, technical difficulty, aerobic intensity Route overview, detailed mileage log, options to shorten or extend when available Photo, map, trailhead GPS coordinates It’s the perfect time for a detailed guidebook to Park City trails for mountain biking locals and tourists alike.
Unmanned air vehicles are becoming increasingly popular alternatives for private applications which include, but are not limited to, fire fighting, search and rescue, atmospheric data collection, and crop surveys, to name a few. Among these vehicles are avian-inspired, flapping-wing designs, which are safe to operate near humans and are required to carry payloads while achieving manoeuverability and agility in low speed flight. Conventional methods and tools fall short of achieving the desired performance metrics and requirements of such craft. Flight dynamics and system identification for modern feedback control provides an in-depth study of the difficulties associated with achieving controlled performance in flapping-wing, avian-inspired flight, and a new model paradigm is derived using analytical and experimental methods, with which a controls designer may then apply familiar tools. This title consists of eight chapters and covers flapping-wing aircraft and flight dynamics, before looking at nonlinear, multibody modelling as well as flight testing and instrumentation. Later chapters examine system identification from flight test data, feedback control and linearization. - Presents experimental flight data for validation and verification of modelled dynamics, thus illustrating the deficiencies and difficulties associated with modelling flapping-wing flight - Derives a new flight dynamics model needed to model avian-inspired vehicles, based on nonlinear multibody dynamics - Extracts aerodynamic models of flapping flight from experimental flight data and system identification techniques
