Ezekiel is one of the best-structured books in the Old Testament. It is commonly recognized that the strongly interrelated vision accounts (Ez 1:1–3:15; 8–11; 37:1–14; 40–48) contribute greatly to this impression of unity. However, there is a marked lacuna in publications focusing on the vision accounts in Ezekiel as an interconnected text corpus. The present study combines redaction-critical analysis with literary methods that are typically used in a synchronic approach. Drawing on the paradigm of Fortschreibung, it is the first to present a united redaction history that takes into account the growing interconnections and dependencies between the vision accounts. Building on these results, the second part follows the development of selected themes, such as the relationships between characters, the roles of intermediate figures and anthropological and theological implications, throughout the stages of redaction. The study thus represents an important step towards an understanding of the complex redaction history of the book of Ezekiel, and indeed of its theology. The combination of diachronic and synchronic methods makes it relevant for scholars of both directions and is itself a methodological statement.

Carbon nanotubes are exceptionally interesting from a fundamental research point of view. Many concepts of one-dimensional physics have been verified experimentally such as electron and phonon confinement or the one-dimensional singularities in the density of states; other 1D signatures are still under debate, such as Luttinger-liquid behavior. Carbon nanotubes are chemically stable, mechanically very strong, and conduct electricity. For this reason, they open up new perspectives for various applications, such as nano-transistors in circuits, field-emission displays, artificial muscles, or added reinforcements in alloys. This text is an introduction to the physical concepts needed for investigating carbon nanotubes and other one-dimensional solid-state systems. Written for a wide scientific readership, each chapter consists of an instructive approach to the topic and sustainable ideas for solutions. The former is generally comprehensible for physicists and chemists, while the latter enable the reader to work towards the state of the art in that area. The book gives for the first time a combined theoretical and experimental description of topics like luminescence of carbon nanotubes, Raman scattering, or transport measurements. The theoretical concepts discussed range from the tight-binding approximation, which can be followed by pencil and paper, to first-principles simulations. We emphasize a comprehensive theoretical and experimental understanding of carbon nanotubes including - general concepts for one-dimensional systems - an introduction to the symmetry of nanotubes - textbook models of nanotubes as narrow cylinders - a combination of ab-initio calculations and experiments - luminescence excitation spectroscopy linked to Raman spectroscopy - an introduction to the 1D-transport properties of nanotubes - effects of bundling on the electronic and vibrational properties and - resonance Raman scattering in nanotubes.
This book is based on the results of our interest in the ?eld of ultrashort laser pulses interaction with matter. The aim of our monograph was to build the balanced description of the thermal transport phenomena generated by laser pulses shorter than the characteristic relaxation time. In the book we explore the matter on the quark, nuclear as well atomic scales. Also on the cosmic scale (Planck Era) the thermal disturbance shorter than the Planck time creates the new picture of the Universe. The mathematics, especially PDE, are the main tool in the description of the ultrashort thermal phenomena. Two types of the PDE: parabolic and hyperbolic partial di?erential equations are of special interest in the study of the thermal processes. We assume a moderate knowledge of basic Fourier and d’Alembert eq- tions. The scope of the book is deliberately limited to the background of the quantum mechanics equations: Schr ̈ odinger and Klein-Gordon. In this book the attosecond laser pulses are the main source of the dist- bance of the thermal state of the matter. Recently, the attosecond laser pulses constitute a novel tool for probing processes taking place on the time scale of electron motion inside atoms. The research presented in this book appears to provide the basic tools and concepts for attosecond thermal dynamics. Nevertheless much research is still needed to make this emerging ?eld routinely applicable for a broad range of processes on atomic and subatomic scales.
This book examines why the United States has introduced safeguards that are designed to prevent their counterterrorism policies from causing harm to non-US citizens beyond US territory. It investigates what made US policymakers take steps to "put the gloves back on" through five case studies on the emergence of such safeguards related to the right not to be tortured, the right not to be arbitrarily detained, the right to life (in connection with targeted killing operations), the right to seek asylum (in connection with refugee resettlement), and the right to privacy (in connection with foreign mass surveillance). The book exposes two mechanisms – coercion and strategic learning – which explain why the United States has introduced what the authors refer to as "extraterritorial human rights safeguards", thus demonstrating that the emerging norm that states have human rights obligations towards foreigners beyond their borders constrains policy choices. This book will be of key interest to scholars and students of human rights, counterterrorism, US foreign policy, human rights law, and more broadly to political science and international relations.

Al-Andalus, the Arabic name for the medieval Islamic state in Iberia, endured for over 750 years following the Arab and Berber conquest of Hispania in 711. While the popular perception of al-Andalus is that of a land of religious tolerance and cultural cooperation, the fact is that we know relatively little about how Muslims governed Christians and Jews in al-Andalus and about social relations among Muslims, Christians, and Jews. In Defining Boundaries in al-Andalus, Janina M. Safran takes a close look at the structure and practice of Muslim political and legal-religious authority and offers a rare look at intercommunal life in Iberia during the first three centuries of Islamic rule. Safran makes creative use of a body of evidence that until now has gone largely untapped by historians-the writings and opinions of Andalusi and Maghribi jurists during the Umayyad dynasty. These sources enable her to bring to life a society undergoing dramatic transformation. Obvious differences between conquerors and conquered and Muslims and non-Muslims became blurred over time by transculturation, intermarriage, and conversion. Safran examines ample evidence of intimate contact between individuals of different religious communities and of legal-juridical accommodation to develop an argument about how legal-religious authorities interpreted the social contract between the Muslim regime and the Christian and Jewish populations. This step can be seen as one of the most challenging ones for many family businesses and includes finding the right successor. Female successors are still often neglected as such potential successor. The aim of this master thesis is to give a guideline to potential female successors on what factors there might be that influence successful succession in order to make them cope with it accordingly. A qualitative re-search in the form of narrative interviews with six female successor or potential successors was used for the purpose of this study. The most important findings include the emotional attachment of the family in the business, the timing, and steps of succession as a process, the need for preparation and planning, as well as the requirement to find the right way to deal with such challenges accordingly. In conclusion, female successors should be aware of the mentioned fac-tors and deal with them at the right time and in the right manner to influence their succession positively.
An examination of the constitutive role of rhythm and movement in the visualization of developing life. Janina Hochland, maiden name Kemblinski, was born in Lodz Poland. At the age of four, she was in Romania, here she lived for twenty-two years, in Brasov and Bucharest. Went to Israel for a few years, then to England, where she settled in Manchester. She studied at various universities and finished with an MA on the French writer and philosopher JP Sartre. Took her B Ed, taught at Salford, College of Technology, then at Salford University, before retiring. This is her second book. In 2011 she brought out 'The Kemblinski Saga'.

Three cultural aspects are used to identify what impact culture can have on the failure of CRM. Those three cultural aspects are safety culture, professional culture, and national culture. Furthermore, three case studies are brought as an example. They include the case of TransAsia Airways GE222, Garuda Indonesia GA200, and Korean Air 801. On the 27th of March in 1977 many planes had to be diverted to other Canarian airports caused by a bomb exploding at the airport of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. One of those was the small airport of Los Rodeos on the island of Tenerife that got very crowded due to the number of planes that had to be diverted, resulting in the runway having to be used as a taxiway. Two of the planes stranded at the airport were flight KLM 4805 and flight PAA 1736. When the bomb threat was lifted and the planes started to leave Los Rodeos, KLM 4805 was instructed to taxi down the runway, turn around, and then eventually take off. The PAA 1736 taxied the runway after the KLM 4805 and was instructed to leave the runway at exit three so the KLM 4805 could proceed with takeoff. The tower then cleared the KLM 4805 for takeoff but told them to stand by, as the PAA 1736 still maneuvered on the runway. Because of a communication issue, the KLM 4 805 understood its conversation with the tower as a clearance to takeoff and proceeded down the runway where it collided with the PAA 1736. All 248 passengers on board KLM 4805 died and so did 335 passengers on the flight of PAA 1736, making it the deadliest commercial aviation accident to this date, all because of a pilot error.
