Redwood City's slogan, "Climate Best By Government Test," describes the fair weather at San Mateo County's seat, which was established in 1851 as the bayside terminus for the peninsula's lumber industry. Wharfs located along Redwood Creek formed the basis of the town's commercial district, and in the 20th century, the city's port expanded with new industries, such as the Pacific-Portland Cement Company, the Morgan Oyster Company, and Leslie Salt. Meanwhile, Redwood City's downtown area hosted many civic events, numerous theaters, and the region's largest retail district. In the 1950s, the city grew along Woodside Road and, soon thereafter, when Redwood Shores was added to its boundaries, expanded north. Today Redwood City has come full circle with a revitalized downtown and a beautifully restored courthouse square.

Analyzing the movement's deep-seated origins in questions that the country has sought too long to ignore, some of the greatest economic minds and most incisive cultural commentators - from Paul Krugman, Robin Wells, Michael Lewis, Robert Reich, Amy Goodman, Barbara Ehrenreich, Gillian Tett, Scott Turow, Bethany McLean, Brandon Adams, and Tyler Cowen to prominent labor leaders and young, cutting-edge economists and financial writers whose work is not yet widely known - capture the Occupy Wall Street phenomenon in all its ragged glory, giving readers an on-the-scene feel for the movement as it unfolds while exploring the heady growth of the protests, considering the lasting changes wrought, and recommending reform. A guide to the occupation, The Occupy Handbook is a talked-about source for understanding why 1% of the people in America take almost a quarter of the nation's income and the long-term effects of a protest movement that even the objects of its attack can find little fault with.

Thunder McCloud, a divorced woman whose life is in turmoil, faces additional challenges when she discovers someone has broken into her Neo-classic house to clean it. She keeps her handsome significant other baffled and bewildered after she gives him a six-week evaluation on being a friend, lover, and potential husband. He tells her, "Wasn't it just last month that you hosted a black-tie dinner at two thousand dollars a plate, in my honor, and presented me with the Brave Badge of Courage Award?" Thunder carries with her emotional baggage that has had her nametag on it since childhood -- baggage that is never lost! Her problems escalate when a psychiatrist takes her to a secluded cabin to convince her that her lover is a figment of her imagination, that he and she are married, and that she is recovering from a nervous breakdown. A subplot takes the reader on a wild journey with a country gentleman from Thunder's past. Now, a serial killer, they are destined to meet again.

Earth Angel is a wryly narrated nostalgia piece about the laughable but lovable 1950s in small town America. On movie dates then the hormonal honey pot was constantly stirred by the likes of such voluptuous Hollywood angels as Marilyn Monroe, Janet Leigh, Liz Taylor, Jane Russell, Sophia Loren, Brigette Bardot, Jayne Mansfield, and on and on. This was especially tormenting if you dated a girl who looked like Marilyn Monroe but whose angelic ambitions were only of the biblical sort. This is the fate of the novel's hero, "Reverend Steve," a young lad considering the ministry and with biblical ambitions of his own but struggling with an erotic imagination that is over-stimulated by the appearance in his Ohio town of so many gorgeous angels, both on screen and sitting right next to him at the drive-in movie. Well, where else could this lead but to out-of-wedlock teen pregnancy? The twist here is that the teen who gets "knocked up" is the virginal "Reverend Steve." And the baby he delivers, a charming and surprisingly philosophical girl named Toby, is a member of your family. But what does it mean that it was an angel who knocked him up? Or that this results in another virgin birth?
