The transformation process, on which all four CentralEast European countries, i.e. the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and the Slovak Republic, have em barked, has become the subject of numerous publications. But as yet the majority of them dealt with institutional (systematic) changes and their implications for macroeconomic developments, while changes going on in the enterprise sphere received as yet only little attention. Even the few publications dealing with mi croeconomic topics focused only on individual issues and are thus unable to give a comprehensive picture of new entrepreneurial opportunities emerging in these countries. In order to fill this gap, economists from the Czech Republic, Germany, Hun gary, Poland and Spain put forward a proposition to analyse these developments in the framework of the A.C.E. programme of the European Communities. The E.C. included the research project entitled "Entrepreneurship in CentralEast Eu ropean Countries in the Framework of Increasing East-West Economic Compati bility" into the second round of that programme.

This book introduces into the current global ethics debate models of humanism developed in classical Chinese traditions, which have not yet been comprehensively presented to Western scholarship or integrated into the framework of global discourses on social ethics and morality. It creates new paradigms for an understanding of humanism that meets the demands of our time. It begins by presenting European descriptions and critical assessments of this discourse, and then moves to an exploration of humanistic ideas shaped through historical developments in Asia, with a focus on the Chinese tradition. In this sense, the book is written from a transcivilizational perspective. The methods used in the research transcend---that is, surpass and overcome---the rigid, isolating, and essentialist concept of civilization. At the same time, the book points to the possibility of transformation through the exchange of knowledge and ideas between different civilizations. Within this framework, the book starts from the assumption that the ontology of civilizations and cultures is not based on immutable substances, but on the relations between different factors that constitute them as categories. From Class to Identity offers an analysis of education policy-making in the processes of social transformation and post-conflict development in the Western Balkans. What is Sexualized Violence? Intersectional Readings uses an intersectional, queer, and subject-oriented approach to examine how societies constitute subjects as abilized and vulnerabilized with respect to sexualized violence. This analysis focuses on female stars - an important but largely unexplored area - because they were mostly responsible for Nazi cinema's spectacular commercial success and political failure. Challenging earlier studies, which view Nazi cinema as an effective propaganda instrument that helped turn Germans into devoted "Aryan" mothers and tough warriors, the book shows that the Nazi regime's liaison with the cinema was ambivalent. Films failed to disseminate a coherent political message and to Nazify German society. However, they helped the regime maintain power by diverting people's attention from the brutality of Hitler's rule and, eventually, from impending defeat.
What do James Frey's A Million Little Pieces, Margaret B. Jones' Love and Consequence and Wanda Koolmatrie's My Own Sweet Time have in common? None of these popular books are what they appear to be. Frey's fraudulent drug addiction "memoir" was really a semi-fictional novel, Jones' chronicle of her life in a street gang was a complete fabrication, and Koolmatrie was not an Aboriginal woman removed from her family as a child, as in her seemingly autobiographical account, but rather a white taxi driver named Leon Carmen. Deceptive literary works mislead readers and present librarians with a dilemma. Whether making recommendations to patrons or creating catalog records, objectivity and accuracy are crucial--and can be difficult when a book's authorship or veracity is in doubt. This informative (and entertaining!) study addresses ethical considerations for deceptive works and proposes cataloging solutions that are provocative and designed to spark debate. An extensive annotated bibliography describes books that are not what they seem.
After risk management and interest risk management in particular was primarily relevant for banks in the past, it is a crucial competition factor for all enterprises today. With increasing volatile financial markets and global competition CFOs are focusing more and more on an efficient measurement and management of interest rate risk. In this context this book aims to point out the risks of an adverse change in interest rates for a corporate portfolio of interest-bearing positions and show possibilities to measure and manage these risks. First the scene for interest risk management in a corporate treasury of a service enterprise is set by providing essential knowledge about financial risk management and giving an insight into the characteristics of a service enterprise as well as the responsibilities of a corporate treasury and the factors that influence the treasury risk management approach. This is followed by a process-oriented instruction of how to quantify interest rate risk and how to manage it. Besides the risk measures duration and convexity, two different approaches to value at risk, the historical simulation and the variance-covariance-approach, will be examined. For the management of the interest rate risk an overview of possible hedging instruments to reduce interest risk exposure will be given and their different strategies examined. All approaches will be measured against their practical feasibility and for both, the quantification and the management of interest rate risk, implications for the implementation in a service enterprise will be provided.
