This book presents gravity aspects (gravity disturbance, Marussi tensor, two gravity invariants, their certain ratio, the strike angles, and the virtual deformations) which are computed and evaluated for the Moon, using the recent static global gravity field model (GRGM1200A) to degree and order of 600 in spherical harmonic expansion. The magnetic anomaly model and surface topography (from the LOLA mission) are added. Results are shown for the whole Moon, for its segments around the Moon and as zooms for selected impact craters, maria and catenae; they are shortly interpreted and opened for further selenologic applications. The book contains information about the geology of the Moon, together with basic information about the magnetic field, mapping and topography models.
Tibetan Buddhist writings frequently state that many of the things we perceive in the world are in fact illusory, as illusory as echoes or mirages. In Twelve Examples of Illusion, Jan Westerhoff offers an engaging look at a dozen illusions--including magic tricks, dreams, rainbows, and reflections in a mirror--showing how these phenomena can give us insight into reality. For instance, he offers a fascinating discussion of optical illusions, such as the wheel of fire (the "wheel" seen when a torch is swung rapidly in a circle), discussing Tibetan explanations of this phenomenon as well as the findings of modern psychology, and significantly clarifying the idea that most phenomena--from chairs to trees--are similar illusions. The book uses a variety of crystal-clear examples drawn from a wide variety of fields, including contemporary philosophy and cognitive science, as well as the history of science, optics, artificial intelligence, geometry, economics, and literary theory. Throughout, Westerhoff makes both Buddhist philosophical ideas and the latest theories of mind and brain come alive for the general reader.
The Soul of Athens: Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" studies Shakespeare's portrayal of the founding of Athens through a close reading of one of the Bard's most memorable comedies. Coupling careful attention to detail with interpretive breadth, The Soul of Athens examines the nature of love, the natural doubleness of human thinking and the ambiguous relation of image and reality, as well as patriarchy and democracy, and heroic and moral virtue.
This brand-new universal model and physics was first published, in book form, September 26th, 2015! Remember the important date! This book, is a brand new textbook, in a brand new basic 5-dimensional quantum physics, and is written for future physicists and researchers! This new model is a full 'visualization' of all these 'extra' undetectable quantum physical dimensions! 'Rediscovering the fifth dimension' is a brand new 5-dimensional quantum physics model that builds up the entire universe, only on energetic oscillating fields, and a very special universal substance! This substance is actually the difference between whether something can be seen, discovered, detected or not! This universal substance was fully proven by Carl David Anderson as early as the 1930s! This 'semi-physical substance' is produced only by the Higg's field! That's the only reason they were able to discover this Higg's field as the absolute only possible field they could detect in the particle accelerator! They found absolutely no physical particles! Remember this! This is very important if you want to understand the universe as it really appears! This new quantum physical hologram model's atoms, are only these 4-dimensional oscillating energetic fields, which are actually fully proven, by the particle accelerator, in 2016! As a result, 99% of the universe actually consists of an undetectable quantum physics side, and 1% is this strange substance! This is where reality comes to the 'surface' and becomes fully 'visible', in the highly active 5-dimensional quantum physical universal engine room! The fact that something is visible and detectable is only due to the 'substance'! This new model reveals Tesla technology and stealth technology, and points out the very reason why the UFO's can disappear from today's high-tech radars! The reason why the UFO can disappear from radar, is that there are no physical particles left in the UFO, only the atom! This 'substance' can 'disappear' again, completely controlled, also the stealth effect occurs, in the UFO! The particle accelerator's final and very clear evidence just says that there can be no physical particles, and that it actually proves that there has never been a big-bang!! Still today, is this fake big-bang universe only researched and taught!? Why? Is it only because scientists don't understand the right universe that the particle accelerator actually proved to them should be there!? The energetic oscillating field universe!?
This first of three volumes starts with a short introduction to historical metrology as a scientific discipline and goes on with an anthology of acient and modern measurement systems of all kind, scientific measures, units of time, weights, currencies etc. It concludes with an exhaustive list of references. Units of measurement are of vital importance in every civilization through history. Since the early ages, man has through necessity devised various measures to assist him in everyday life. They have enabled and continue to enable us to trade in commonly and equitably understood amounts, and to investigate, understand, and control the chemical, physical, and biological processes of the natural world. The essence of the work is an alphabetically ordered, comprehensive list of measurement nomenclature, units and scales. It provides an understanding of almost all quantitative expressions observed in all imaginable situations, including spelling variants and the abbreviations and symbols for units, and various acronyms used in metrology. It will be of use not only to historians of science and technology, but also to economic and social historians and should be in every major academic and national library as standard reference work on the topic.
Divining with Achi and Tārā is a book on Tibetan methods of prognostics with dice and prayer beads (mālā). Jan-Ulrich Sobisch offers a thorough discussion of Chinese, Indian, Turkic, and Tibetan traditions of divination, its techniques, rituals, tools, and poetic language. Interviews with Tibetan masters of divination introduce the main part with a translation of a dice divination manual of the deity Achi that is still part of a living tradition. Solvej Nielsen contributes further interviews, a mālā divination of Tārā and its oral tradition, and very useful glossaries of the terminology of Tibetan divination and fortune telling. Appendices provide lists of deities and spirits and of numerous identified ritual remedies and supports that are an essential element of a still vibrant Tibetan culture.

The book focusses on the origin and transformation of the priestly festival calendar. Since the epoch-making work of Julius Wellhausen at the end of the 19th century the differences between the various ancient Israelite festival calendars have often been explained in terms of a gradual evolution, which shows an increasing historicisation, denaturalisation and ritualisation. The festivals were in Wellhausen's view gradually detached from agricultural conditions and celebrated more and more at fixed points in the year. This study tries to show that the changes in the priestly festival calendar reflect a conscious effort to adapt the ancient Israelite festival calendar to the semi-annual layout of the Babylonian festival year. The ramifications of the change only come to the fore after a careful study of the agricultural conditions of ancient Israel - and Mesopotamia - makes clear that passover and the festival of unleavened bread were originally celebrated in the second month of the year. The first month of the year envisaged by the priestly festival calendar for the celebration of passover and the festival of unleavened bread in turn mirrors the date of one of the two semi-annual Babylonian New Year festivals. The two Babylonian New Year festivals were celebrated exactly six months apart at the vernal and autumnal equinoxes. In order to adapt the ancient Israelite festival calendar to the Babylonian scheme with two New Year festivals a year, the date of passover and the festival of unleavened bread had to be moved up by one month. The consequences for the origin of passover, the festival of unleavened bread, the festival of weeks and the festival of huts are charted and the relations between the various ancient Israelite festival calendars are determined anew.
Computers tend to be very good at repetition and very bad at interpretation. People, on the other hand, are poor at repetition, because we can get bored or distracted. We are, however, excellent at interpretation, if we have the proper information. Basic GIS Coordinates is about providing some of the critical information needed to understand coordinate systems and effectively interpret GIS technology. GIS is emerging in all facets of business and government at an incredible rate; GIS and mapping professionals must have a clear understanding of coordinate systems. Basic GIS Coordinates explains how coordinates tie the real world to its electronic image in the computer. It is about understanding how these systems work, and how they sometimes don't work. It examines how points that are expected to be in one location are in reality somewhere completely different, even when the computer has done everything exactly as it was told. Basic GIS Coordinates explains the progression of ideas that are the foundation of coordinate systems without overwhelming you with supporting mathematics. It is a user-friendly study for those who need to apply GIS technology and resulting coordinates. From the basics of coordinate systems to specific practical examples, this book covers GIS coordinates without pages of complicated math; yet it is not oversimplified. This volume analyzes state plane coordinates, UTM coordinates, and the rectangular system in a concise format. To help you apply the information, each chapter concludes with review questions and answers.

For anyone intimidated by crowded yoga classes, complicated textbooks, headstands, or simply touching their toes, Yoga for Real People offers a year of classes that progress from beginning to intermediate to advanced levels of practice. A down-to-earth guide for yoga teachers and students alike, this book is illustrated throughout with more than 160 photographs correctly demonstrating 100 poses. Each lesson begins with a discussion of an important yogic concept, before presenting a posture to build flexibility and strength, followed by a meditation to inspire mental relaxation and spiritual growth. As students build a routine, they learn to first "do" the postures, then "experience" the postures, and finally "become" the postures. The appendix includes a complete list of the postures along with a helpful summary of the benefits. Jan Baker's gentle and encouraging style teaches readers how to listen to their bodies, how to stretch without strain, and, most of all, how to find joy in all things. As she writes in the introduction, "If you want to live longer, be healthier, more peaceful - yoga has the answer. How long does it take to accomplish this? That's up to you.

Master Mantak Chia and Andrew Jan reveal how to use Taoist inner alchemy to harness the energies of Sun, Moon, Earth, North Star, and Big Dipper and transform them to feed the soul body and begin development of the immortal spirit body. They explain how to reverse yin and yang power through energetic work at the solar plexus, thereby activating the liberation of transformed sexual energy. They explore how to open the heart center and how to connect astral energy with the energies of animals, children, and plants to grow the immortal fetus, or spirit body. The authors provide warm-up exercises, including the Inner Smile and Fusion practices, and outline a complete daily Kan and Li routine for mental and physical health, longevity, astral flight, and realization of the Wu Wei state.
Physics is written in the language of mathematics, and its findings are based on thousands of experiments. But what kind of picture does physics paint of the world? What do theories like relativity or quantum mechanics contribute to it? How complete is this picture? This book sheds light on how the "things" these theories are about relate to our everyday things, and points out what questions remain unanswered and what problems are involved. In this book, the author presents how physics works, what it can and cannot do. In doing so, he describes the surprising answers that physics provides to many of our questions about the nature of "things" and the world; answers that challenge our intuition in many ways. This book is a translation of the original German 1st edition Universum ohne Dinge by Jan-Markus Schwindt, published by Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature in 2020. The translation was done with the help of artificial intelligence (machine translation by the service DeepL.com). A subsequent human revision was done primarily in terms of content, so that the book will read stylistically differently from a conventional translation. Springer Nature works continuously to further the development of tools for the production of books and on the related technologies to support the authors.

Every book has its own personal story and my book on the Jaqaj people is no exception. I collected my initial data at the time when the Dutch government was responsible for what is now lrian Jaya, a province of Indonesia. At the time that I worked in the field and gathered my information, I enjoyed the enduring interest and support of the late Mgr. H. Tillemans, m. s. c. , archbishop of Merauke. I wish to dedicate this book to his memory. my studies, written in Dutch, appeared in 1958 A first summary of under the tide Papoea's aan de Mappi. Further research in the area persuaded me that some of my previous views needed correction and that publication of more data was necessary as weIl. In 1969 I finished the Dutch draft of the present book. For its translation I was very fortuna te to have help of my colleague Mr. M. van Dijck. It appeared that the text was too long and had to be reduced to better, workable my homework for the following years. The final proportions. That was draft was corrected by my friend Dr. W. Beek, former teacher of English at several colleges, and finally retyped by Father A. Bodden, m. s. c. I owe all of these people my sincere thanks for the many hours spent on this work.
What would alien visitors in the far future, piecing together the history of earth, find of our brief reign? What clues will we leave? What fossils? Just as we have gained knowledge of the past, of ancient climates and the activities of creatures long dead, so too might they decode the rocks. The Earth After Us takes a novel approach to show how geologists unravel the information in the rocks. As the alien scientists start investigating the strata, what story will they tell of us? What kind of fossils will humans leave behind? What will happen to cities, cars, and plastic cups? How thick a layer will the 'human stratum' be? And will it be obvious which species dominated the planet?
Rocks, more than anything else, underpin our lives. They make up the solid structure of the Earth and of other rocky planets, and are present at the cores of gas giant planets. We live on the rocky surface of the planet, grow our food on weathered debris derived from rocks, and we obtain nearly all of the raw materials with which we found our civilization from rocks. From the Earth's crust to building bricks, rocks contain our sense of planetary history, and are a guide to our future. In this Very Short Introduction Jan Zalsiewicz looks at the nature and variety of rocks, and the processes by which they are formed. Starting from the origin of rocks and their key role in the formation of the Earth, he considers what we know about the deep rocks of the mantle and core, and what rocks can tell us about the evolution of the Earth, and looks at those found in outer space and on other planets. ABOUT THE SERIES: The Very Short Introductions series from Oxford University Press contains hundreds of titles in almost every subject area. These pocket-sized books are the perfect way to get ahead in a new subject quickly. Our expert authors combine facts, analysis, perspective, new ideas, and enthusiasm to make interesting and challenging topics highly readable.
Coordinates are the foundation of GIS, cartography, and surveying, to name just a few fields. Computers have an astounding capacity for repetition and they possess a superior ability to handle the mathematics behind coordinate manipulation—but they are very bad at interpreting coordinates and coordinate systems. Basic GIS Coordinates, Second Edition clearly illustrates the basic principles of coordinate systems, covering ellipsoids, datums, and plane coordinates as they are used in GIS and GPS. Keeping in mind that it is ultimately incumbent on humans to ensure the correct use of coordinate systems, this book explains complex topics in a logical progression, presenting them in a way that is neither too complicated nor oversimplified. This new edition of a bestseller expands the material with updates on what has occurred in the field during the past five years, especially in the World Geodetic System and International Terrestrial Reference Frame. It also addresses the upcoming GNSS constellations and coordinate implications. Details how to build a coordinate system Addresses different methods of leveling, as well as measuring and modeling of height and gravity Explores two-coordinate (state-plane, UTM) systems Discusses initial points and other aspects of the rectangular system Covers the geoid and the concepts of elevation There are thousands of horizontal geodetic datums and Cartesian coordinate systems currently sanctioned by governments around the world to describe our planet electronically and on paper. Even if a computer has done nothing wrong, coordinate errors can often occur and lead to potentially disastrous miscalculations. This book is a valuable tool to help readers develop an understanding of how coordinate systems work—and how they sometimes don’t.
Against a Blackened Sky, the story of one man's falling-out with organized religion, is told by a future observer whose knowledge of history is incomplete. Without sanctioned access to historical accounts, the storyteller has pieced together an explanation of man's predicament that seems plausible to him. His problem is that he cannot accomplish in his own life the virtues that he admires in the subject of his story. In his partial understanding, he looks back longingly to a time he feels to be simpler than the complex world he lives in. The storyteller is a member of the crew who man a lunar-based laser. The subject of his narrative, Colonel Smith, was a member of the pioneering crew who laid the foundation for the establishment of that base. In Colonel Smith's day, a world now past, satellite technology became obsolete. The need for a moon-based laser became desperate in the pursuit of peace and security. Through a series of mishaps, Colonel Smith is marooned alone on the moon and must endure a year of solitude. It is during that time that he is able to rethink and ultimately to redirect his life. When at last he is rescued, he returns to an Earth that will be profoundly affected by the work he helped to begin on the moon. In a world of tightening alternatives, man has not lost his battle with technology but rather has surrendered to it. It is the storyteller's lament that man has given up without a struggle. Should the story of the teller and of his subject seem ill-fated and harshness and gloom seem to hang over the tragedy of their lives, it is only because the message of hope has been missed. The door has been opened, and we have stepped through, but the door has not closed behind us. We might yet step back through, close that door from the other side, and find another opened to us. Amazing grace.

A bottle of whiskey falls from the sky, and survives the impact of landing, on a patio table at Crabby Whack Brewery. The Crabby Brew logo assures the bottle's quality, and yet it contains neither brew nor quality, but rather an offensive backwash liquor, crafted by a heavy-handed amateur. Sammie is a master brewer, at least according to Gerald; Crabby Whack's most loyal and alcoholic customer. These degenerate barflies contend with the ramifications of the whiskey's mysterious arrival. They are thrust into new lives, carefully prepared for them in an orbiting nursery of interstellar organisms. This is a genosphere, an embassy of galactic peoples-- of motorized seaweed, Brygorrin goats, and ambitious jellyfish with questionable plans for the Solar system. This is the synthetic homeworld of Somewhat Sammie.
Patterned after his previous books on Shakespeare's plays, Jan H. Blits's New Heaven, New Earth is a scene-by-scene, line-by-line philosophical study of Antony and Cleopatra. Combining close attention to detail with interpretive breadth, Blits approaches Shakespeare as a first-rank thinker who, master of his own thought and writing, produced plays and poetry with an infinitely conscious art, like any commonly recognized philosophical poet. Treating the play as a fully coherent whole, Blits shows that Antony and Cleopatra, as much a history play as a love story, depicts the transition from the pagan to the Christian world_from the aftermath of the collapse of the Roman Republic and the decline of the pagan gods to the emergence of the Roman Empire and the conditions giving rise to Christianity. Instead of being organized thematically, New Heaven, New Earth follows the play from beginning to end, closely examining Shakespeare's text on its own terms and not on the terms of modern literary theory. Using this approach, Blits draws significant and insightful conclusions that will satisfy the interests of scholars of politics, literature, and history alike.
This book is the second in a brand-new revealing series of the new and fully proven 5-dimensional quantum physical universe! The big-bang physics and philosophy are now completely disproved by the particle accelerator, in the absence of alleged particles! The universe has now been proven by scientists and by the particle accelerator down there in Cern! This evidence points only in one direction, towards a universe consisting only of energetic oscillating fields, and a most strange matter, and absolutely no form of physical particles! This book is a sequel to 'Rediscovering the Fifth Dimension'! These two books will explain you the entire new 5-dimensional quantum physical universe, consisting only of energetic oscillating fields and a very wondrous substance! Together, it adds up absolutely everything that we can see, discover and detect! The very active universal engine room, the place where absolutely everything of physical actions unfolds, consists of 5 very active dimensions! Outside, there is what you might call, 'quiet'! Only the deep mysteries of quantum physics can give you the answer to the remaining dimensions besides! All of the active physical actions that only take place in the very active engine room, are quantum physical actions! It is only these 5 quantum physical dimensions that are actually the active universal engine room, and it is only the two outers of these 5 dimensions, that are the driving force of the 5-dimensional very active quantum physical universe! The two most exciting dimensions in the active engine room are the 5th and the 4th dimensions! Therein we find just the right quantum physics and these two books will convince you of that! They just need to be read and understood! The books will explain to you about the real creation of the universe, and will explain to you the real inflation and how it develops! The new expansion law will be explained, something that drives inflation and expansion in the universe! Universal gravity is explained in the first and fundamental book, along with how gravity creates and powers this quantum physical universe! You will be explained how and what atoms basically are, along with the Higgs fields! The Higgs fields are very special! Because the matter is very special in this quantum physical universe, in which there are no forms of 100% physical particles whatsoever! A totally particle-less universe with only energetic oscillating fields and the matter from all the Higgs fields!

In the Yoga Sutra, the classical work on yoga, Patañjali summarizes the purpose of human existence in 195 concise sutras. They are intended as a curriculum and memory aid for the expert and can be recited in 25 minutes. His telegraphic style and the ambiguity of the Sanskrit terms lead to the fact that the Yoga Sutra is translated again and again anew and interpreted differently due to the personal experiences of the authors. In the translation of this issue, the keyword character of the sutras is retained and the explanatory commentary is illustrated by examples of the author’s own experiences from over 50 years of practical application of yoga techniques. "The purpose of every system of Yoga is to first get Samadhi and then stabilize it and let it find fulfilment in Unity. Yoga means union. When the mind gets united with Being, this is the state of Yoga. Union is union of the individuality with the cosmic unboundedness. Union is in Samadhi. And Dhyan (meditation) leads to Samadhi. Dhyan is that which takes the mind from the field of gross experience to the subtle experience, takes it to the quietude of the transcendental area. Dhyan or meditation is a direct way to Samadhi which is Yoga." – Maharishi Mahesh Yogi
The book attempts to explain the main features of celestial mechanics using a new and unique technique. Its emphasis, in terms of applications, is on the Solar System, including its most peculiar properties (such as chaos, resonances, relativistic correct
