JFK Revisited: Through the Looking Glass contains the two working original screenplays for Oliver Stone’s JFK Revisited; both the two-hour version, Through the Looking Glass, and the four-hour version, Destiny Betrayed. These films are the first documentaries to feature the work of the Assassination Records Review Board. The Assassination Records Review Board worked from 1994–98 releasing records that the government has classified in whole or in part on the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. They ended up releasing about two million pages or approximately sixty thousand documents. They also pursued an investigation into the autopsy and medical evidence in the JFK case. Although their releases and discoveries were quite important to the evidentiary record, they received very little exposure in the mainstream media. They also released documents relating to Kennedy’s foreign policy in both Cuba and Vietnam. In the former case, these were plans by the Pentagon to create a pretext to invade Cuba. In the latter, documents proved Kennedy was implementing a withdrawal plan from Vietnam. This book is unprecedented. It contains a compendium of information originating from the widest range of authorities on the JFK case ever assembled. This includes luminaries from several fields: pathology, surgery, ballistics, criminal investigation, neurology, history, and journalism. Never before have people like forensic pathologist Cyril Wecht, criminalist Henry Lee, Professor James Galbraith, author David Talbot, journalist Jefferson Morley, intelligence analyst John Newman, Professor Robert Rakove, and more appeared in one book; never have this many illustrious authorities been interviewed about their views on the policies and the assassination of President John F. The casket was empty at this time, as it had been when it was placed in a gray navy ambulance for transportation from Andrews to Bethesda. The body had been removed from the bronze casket while Lyndon Johnson was being sworn in as president before Air Force One left Love Field. The purpose of the early arrival of the body at the Bethesda morgue was to alter the wounds, which had been found to be frontal by the doctors at Parkland. The wounds had to be reversed in order to implicate a lone assassin Lee Harvey Oswald shooting from the Texas School Book Depository. New information is provided regarding pre-autopsy photographs and exclusion of FBI agents from the autopsy room to prevent their discovery of the body there. Historians may have locked the box on the JFK assassination and the life of Lyndon Baines Johnson but in reading James Norvells riveting out of the box tale, you will shiver with nagging thoughts of intrigue and doubt. Norvells semi-fictitious story, bolstered with historical facts, is a spellbinding masterpiece. He has interacted with principal characters particularly Madeleine Brown and Billie Sol Estes and done so in a personal manner and over an extended period of time. The more you read, the more youll wonder, Could this have happened? Be careful once you pick it up you wont put it down. Dynamite! John H. (Jack) Grubbs, Ph.D, Brigadier General (Ret.), U. S. Jim Norvells unique approach to explaining the assassination of President Kennedy leads the reader into this complex and often difficult subject from a fresh direction. I recommend this book primarily because it exposes even the experienced student of the subject to information with which he may not have been familiar, and to possible associations between competing theories about what happened in Dallas, that may indicate many of them are not necessarily mutually exclusive after all. Jims novel acutely and accurately displays the personification of pure evil in LBJ.
