The Portable James Joyce, edited and with an introduction by Harry Levin, includes four of the six books on which Joyce's astonishing reputatuion is founded: A Portrait of the Artist As a Young Man; his Collected Poems (including Chamber Music); Exiles, Joyce's only drama; and his volume of short stories, Dubliners. In addition, there is a generous sampling from Ulysses and Finnegans Wake, including the famous "Anna Livia Plurabelle" episode.
Ulysses," James Joyce's magnum opus, is a groundbreaking literary work that immerses readers into a single day in the life of Leopold Bloom in Dublin on June 16, 1904. Joyce delves into the depths of the human psyche through complex and experimental prose, setting new standards for modern fiction. Across its 18 chapters, Joyce employs a variety of narrative styles, including stream of consciousness, interior monologue, and even parodies of existing literary styles, to explore the thoughts, desires, and memories of his characters. The narrative follows not only Bloom but also Stephen Dedalus, a budding writer who echoes the character of Ulysses from Greek mythology. "Ulysses" is much more than a mere depiction of everyday life; it's a profound exploration of the human condition, addressing universal themes such as love, death, religion, politics, and identity. Joyce challenges the literary conventions of his time by crafting a novel that unfolds over a single day yet contains reflections and perspectives that transcend time and space. This iconic book is renowned for its complexity and rich symbolism, as well as its ability to capture reality intensely and often humorously. "Ulysses" remains a challenge for readers, but also an endless source of inspiration and fascination for those who seek to explore the depths of the human condition through the art of fiction.

Dubliners - James Joyce - Dubliners is a collection of fifteen short stories by James Joyce. They form a naturalistic depiction of Irish middle class life in and around Dublin in the early years of the 20th century. The stories were written when Irish nationalism was at its peak, and a search for a national identity and purpose was raging; at a crossroads of history and culture, Ireland was jolted by various converging ideas and influences. They centre on Joyce's idea of an epiphany: a moment where a character experiences a life-changing self-understanding or illumination, and the idea of paralysis where Joyce felt Irish nationalism stagnated cultural progression, placing Dublin at the heart of this regressive movement. Many of the characters in Dubliners later appear in minor roles in Joyce's novel Ulysses. The initial stories in the collection are narrated by child protagonists, and as the stories continue, they deal with the lives and concerns of progressively older people. This is in line with Joyce's tripartite division of the collection into childhood, adolescence and maturity.

James Joyce was an Irish, modernist writer who wrote in a ground-breaking style that was known both for its complexity and explicit content. He also participated in the early days of poetic modernism in the English language, being considered by Ezra Pound one of the most eminent poets of imagism. Although Joyce has lived outside his native Irish island for most of adult life, his Irish identity was essential to his work and provide him with all the ambiance and much of the theme of his work. His fictional universe is rooted heavily in Dublin and reflects his family life and events, friendships and enmities from school and college times. In this way, he is at the same time one of the most cosmopolitan and one of the most particularists of the modernist authors of English language. In this anthology the critic August Nemo presents seven short stories that bring the most emblematic elements of the style of this important author: The Sisters Eveline Araby A Painful Case The Dead Two Gallants After the Race
