Written by a social worker for social work students, this is a nuts and bolts guide to statistics that presents complex calculations and concepts in clear, easy-to-understand language. It includes numerous examples, data sets, and issues that students will encounter in social work practice. The first section introduces basic concepts and terms to provide a solid foundation in statistics. It also addresses tools used by researchers to describe and summarize data ranging from single variables to assessing the relationship between variables and cause and effect among variables. The second section focuses on inferential statistics, describing how researchers draw conclusions about whole populations based on data from samples. This section also covers confidence intervals and a variety of significance tests for examining relationships between different types of variables. Additionally, tools for multivariate analyses and data interpretation are presented. Key Features: Addresses the role of statistics in evidence-based practice and program evaluation Features examples of qualitative and quantitative analysis Each chapter contains exercise problems and questions to enhance student learning Includes electronic data sets taken from actual social work arenas Offers a full ancillary digital packet including a student guide to SPSS with accompanying Data Set, an Instructor's Manual, PowerPoint slides, and a Test Bank
This is the first edition of a unique new plastics industry resource: Who's Who in Plastics & Polymers. It is the only biographical directory of its kind and includes contact, affiliation and background information on more than 3300 individuals who are active leaders in this industry and related organizations. The biographical directory is in alphabetical order by individual name. After each individual name, current affiliation and contact information is provided. This includes job title, full name of affiliation (e.g., business, university, association, research institute), business address, and electronic contacts-telephone, fax, e-mail and Web site. Home addresses and contacts are also provided for most of the entries. In the biographical summary section for each individual, the following information is provided: date and place of birth, education and educational achievements, work experience including company or other organization names, positions held and time periods. Also included in this section are the number of patents awarded, articles, and book chapters authored, and conference sessions chaired. Other information includes titles of books edited or written by the individual, listing of conferences where the person had a leadership position, and listing of memberships and positions held in professional organizations. Finally, professional and civic awards are listed. Indexes provide listings of individuals by company or other organization name, and also by geographical location. Who's Who in Plastics & Polymers is now published in a limited edition of 1,000 copies. This edition will not be reprinted. To be sure of receiving your copy, please act now. Information on ordering follows sample pages on the reverse.
Statistics for Health Care Professionals: Working with Excel (second edition) is written in a clear, easily followed style keyed to the powerful statistical tool, Microsoft Excel 2007. It introduces the use of statistics applicable to health administration, health policy, public health, health information management, and other professions, emphasizing the logic of probability and statistical analysis in all areas. Coverage includes data acquisition, data display, basics of probability, data distributions, confidence limits and hypothesis testing, statistical tests for categorical data, tests for related and unrelated data, analysis of variance, simple linear regression, multiple regression, and analysis with a dichotomous categorical dependent variable. A glossary and section-by-section review questions round out this uniquely comprehensive and accessible text.
Most complex biological systems, such as enzyme pathways, are effec tively controlled near the beginning of the process. There is increasing evidence that the same is true for the immune system, with the initial interactions between antigen, antigen-presenting cells, and T cells hav ing a paramount influence on the ensuing events. Thus, analysis of the early stages of the immune responses has been a preoccupation of many immunologists. This has been considerably aided by the capac ity to expand these early events, and 'immortalize' them as clones of T cells, for detailed analysis. The discovery by Morgan, Ruscetti, and Gallo (Science 193, 1007, 1976) of T-cell growth factor (now termed interleukin-2 or IL-2) has had a major impact in immunology that is far from over. The greater ease of handling murine tissues experimentally, with the availability of more precisely defined reagents such as inbred strains, has meant that, to date, most of the work on long-term T-cell cultures has been per formed in the mouse, as summarized by Fathman and Fitch (eds. , Iso lation, Characterization and Utilization of T Lymphocyte Clones, Aca demic Press, NY, 1982). However, the limitations of working with human tissues are counterbalanced by the great long-term importance of understanding disorders of human immune regulation, especially since it is becoming evident that these are far from rare. Immune deficiencies such as agammaglobulinemia and T-cell deficiencies are not common, but immune hyperresponsiveness occurring in allergy and allergiC diseases (e. g.
