He thought things were going well in their relationship and is curious. He breaks into her empty house and listens to her phone messages. One is her Granville telling her to come home. She is going to have his baby. Jackson hates children and has never been with Minn, so she can't rope him into marriage, telling him the child is his. She keeps her pregnancy a secret from Jackson. Thinking that she has been kidnapped, he goes to Idaho to look for them. They are living in a trailer in Blackfoot. Minn has a miscarriage before they leave for the east coast. Granville knows about the aborted infant, but Jackson is kept in the dark. Jackson shoots Granville, leaving him for dead, and brings Minn back to New Jersey, where he gets a secret vasectomy. A horrendous surprise is in store for Minn and Jackson. The police become involved, and there is somewhat of a happy ending

THE CONCH CONVERSION Warren Wild PhD designs a conversion for mankind to return to the sea by splicing sea snail DNA with Human. He creates the ability for them to build shelters and breed creatures that appear human, but are albino-like with dark fish eyes. They have webs between toes and fingers. The program is started in the reef off an undiscovered volcanic island. One of the hybrids contained mutant cells, so Wild implants a chip in his brain to carry on. Wild dies before the project is finished and cannot monitor it. This imperfect hybrid creature impregnates a scientific friendss daughter to correct the mutation. Things other than mutations occur to arrest the plans development.

They shared her run-down Victorian house, in a once-beautiful, affluent neighborhood, full of foreclosed, empty houses. On a bus, Janie discovered that she had a “twin”. Dee Mackey, her “other”, lived with her husband Tate, a disabled veteran, who was being treated by Dr. Frank Laramy, a court psychiatrist that dealt with the hopeless and criminally insane. He told Tate that he was working on a remedy to cure his ills. He also would replace the eye he had lost in the war by using a serum made from various DNA particles found in human, plant, and animal cells. He promised him a new life where nothing would harm him, and success in whatever endeavor he chose would be possible with his “Mega Mix.” Laramy was a lunatic, himself, and an impassioned amateur geneticist. He mixed cell fragments of random life forms to make myriad one-of-a-kind beings. He had no idea what an unstoppable fix he was creating. When his “things” got out of control, his mission became evil; he morphed into one of his own creations, regretting giving being born the first time

His affections towards her are welcome, but seem false. She lets love into the picture and tries to cope with the consequences of his actions. All of his affections for Heddy bring a jealous old lover back into the picture with a second rejected proposal of marriage. Jealousy and rejection bring about a curious ending.
