Several of the stories included in this volume have been previously published but are collected here for the first time. The story “Only One” was originally published in the United States Golf Association’s “Golf Journal,” and was later republished in “Chicken Soup for the Golfer’s Soul.” It has since be republished many times and in many different languages around the world. Once it was used as the basis for a religious sermon by an internet minister, though Nursall disclaims any allegorical intent in writing it. It is, in fact, a story about his mother, Norma Halstead Nursall and the day she scored a hole in one. It is a true story, states the author. Other of his stories have been published in the Golf Journal, including “The Secret,” and “Reunion” – originally titled “Turn Away.” “Angel’s Flight,” and “The Finest Gift” have also appeared in the Chicken Soup series of books. The stories “Postmortem,” and “One Foot in the Bucket,” were contest winning stories that signaled Nursall’s effort to branch away from golf stories---As were his stories, “The Haggis,” “My Sister’s Can o’ Corn,” “Merton Speaks,” “The Offer,” “Sarafina’s Song,” “The Visit,” “A Kindly Fist,” “Hurrying Home,” and “Fingers and Toes.” The story “Against An Azure Sky,” was based on the particular facts of a lawsuit filed in Los Angeles County, of which the author disclaims any personal knowledge.

It brings together information from previous texts, industrial and laboratory safety polices, and recent research papers. Case studies, example problems, and an extensive list of references are included to add to the utility of the text. It describes the unique safety hazards posed by cryogenics in all its guises, including issues associated with the extreme cold of cryogenics, the flammability of some cryogenic fluids, the displacement of oxygen by inert gases boiling off from cryogenic fluids, and the high pressures that can be formed during the volume expansion that occurs when a cryogenic fluid becomes a room temperature gas. A further chapter considers the challenges arising from the behavior of materials at cryogenic temperatures. Many materials are inappropriate for use in cryogenics and can fail, resulting in hazardous conditions. Despite these hazards, work at cryogenic temperatures can be performed safely. The book also discusses broader safety issues such as hazard analysis, establishment of a safe work culture and lessons learned from cryogenic safety in accelerator labs. This book is designed to be useful to everyone affected by cryogenic hazards regardless of their expertise in cryogenics.

This book concerns the use of the drug qat in North Yemen (Yemen Arab Republic), a country lying on the southwestern corner of the Arabian Peninsula. However, because this substance is so interwoven into the fabric of society and culture, it is also necessarily about Yemen itself. The history and culture of South Arabia are still relatively unknown to the rest of the world, and the drug qat, so widely used there, is equally unknown. Thus, the material we present here should be of interest to all of those concerned with drug use, those who wish to understand more about Yemen and the Middle East, and to the Yemenis themselves. Another purpose is to develop some general understandings about sub stance uses and their effects which are less clouded by the mass hysteria and political considerations which often obscure drug issues in our own society. Examination of drug-use patterns in a country where millions of people are users on a regular basis, and where there has been familiarity with the drug for several hundred years, offers an opportunity to achieve perspectives not possible in countries with different attitudes and without such histories. I am not sanguine about the prospects of our abilities to learn from others or from the past, but I do not think we should abandon hope of doing so.
