From the Introduction by Merrill C. Tenney: This commentary is an attempt to make plain the meaning of Revelation. With commendable reserve, Dr. Smith has restricted himself largely to interpretation by other passages of Scripture which are related to Revelation by actual quotation or by striking parallelism. His painstaking studies of vocabulary and of related ideas make the book valuable to the earnest student of the Bible. Dr. Smith is a futurist and a premillenarian, holding that all of the Book of Revelation beginning with the fourth chapter relates to the future period of judgment known as 'the great tribulation,' which will be followed by the personal return of Christ and by the establishment of His kingdom. In this regard he is in a long line of renowned commentators, including Seiss, Gaebelein, Ottman, and others. The distinguishing feature of this commentary is its use of Biblical statistics and comparisons. The uses of important terms in the Revelation are cataloged, and their interpretation is derived from their context. The appendices contain some extensive studies of individual topics, correlating information not easily obtainable elsewhere. Dr. Smith follows a literal interpretation except where avowed symbolism demands a different procedure. He has sought to make his exposition consistent in method and in results. His use of Greek is apt, and shows a careful investigation of the underlying vocabulary of the Greek text. This commentary will probably be the mainstay of premillennial exposition for some years to come.
This book puts at the reader's finger tips the opportunity to study related meanings of the various English translations of the Greek. How does the English translation vary in relationship to the Greek word and the context of the passage? How do the translations vary in different New Testament books? How are the King James translations related to the translations of other versions? These are a few of the questions the Concordance will help you answer. The Index lists over 9,700 English translations of the 5,524 Greek words given in the Concordance. It is the only complete English-to-Greek index of translations of Greek New Testament words. In the Concordance the student may study word meanings working from the Greek to the English; in the Index the student works in his studies from the English to the Greek.
A Gripping Family Saga Set in the Mid-Century South This novel follows the lives of a seemingly average family from the Southeastern United States in the second quarter of the twentieth century. J.B. Palmer tells the tale as only she could; join her as she leads you through the sunlight. You may discover that not only does evil dwell in shadows but that, sometimes, those very same shadows may be all you have to keep you alive. About the Author J.B. Palmer grew up in a small town in South Carolina during the fifties and sixties. As the youngest child of an older Baptist minister and his much younger wife, her childhood was steeped in religion and cloaked with repression. She wanted to be a writer, but her well-meaning parents thought a young girl's only goal in life should be marriage and children. Though her poetry was published and moderately successful, she laid her pen aside to do what was expected of her - marry a good man and have his babies. After her children were older, she became a columnist for several local newspapers, sharing glimpses of her life with her readers. Her humor about everyday life made her a lot of fans. But it was not until a local theater group performed a play based on a short story she wrote that she realized she had a gift for storytelling. Her book, Sunlight and Shadows, is the direct result of that realization. Read it for yourself and see what it took her years to discover - that J.B. Palmer is a natural born story teller.
