Father Roy was born in Hamburg, Louisiana in August, 1929. He is the oldest of four sons and the only one who answered the call to become a Roman Catholic Priest. Father Roy and his family moved a few times and finally settled in New Roads, Louisiana where he attended school and then he entered the Archdiocesan Seminary system. Now retired from active ministry after fifty-eight years, his residence is the St. John Vianney Villa retirement community for priests in Marrero, Louisiana in the Archdiocese of New Orleans. After fifty-eight years of active ministry no one would blame Father Roy for just taking it easy, but that does not seem to be Father Roys way. He is as active today as when he was pastor of Holy Spirit Catholic Parish. From teaching scripture classes, to ministering to the elderly, to visiting friends and family, to harvesting his little garden, to the list goes on and on Father Roy is anything but idle. Beginning with a mother tongue of Acadian French, Father Roy encountered and learned various languages in his study, formation, ministry and now retirement. One of those languages was the language of music and its many dialects. His appreciation of those many forms of music and language has been and is a constant presence and enhancement to Father Roys spirituality and prayer life. God gives everyone an abundance of gifts. It is our job to recognize those gifts and use them for the benefit all of Gods people.

From this beginning comes a rich history of change that continues through the billion-dollar program known as UConn 2000. In these pages are many previously unpublished and many long-unseen images that chronicle 120 years of that transformation. Each era in the university's history has seen growth and change: the 1890s, when faculty and administration squared off in the "the war of the rebellion"; 1908 to 1928, when President Charles L. Beach changed the curriculum and fought for "the needs of the college"; the 27-year administration of Albert N. Jorgensen, which saw a small college become a major research university; the 1960s, when, under Homer Babbidge Jr., the university made great academic advances while facing the sociopolitical challenges of the times; and today, when unprecedented changes are rebuilding and enhancing Connecticut's flagship university.

This book has been written for the entertainment of the reader. It provides short stories, an essay and reminiscences of a full life of the author. Each story is based on fact, with some changes of presentation. There is no coherent connection between the stories except that each one was experienced by the writer. Most of the narratives have been shared with members of the Patuxent Writers Group. I was asked why I did not write in the first person since the stories deal with personal experiences, however I prefer at times to use a pen name Ken Brown. All one needs in order to write a book is a good memory. Life experiences provide the material JRG

Chapter two presents papers and recollections of the pioneer period of Pompey's history. Thereafter follows a numbered tour of the houses 1 to 38. The volume concludes with 75 pages devoted to the Pompey Academy chartered 1811 with programs and catalogs reproduced. Its centennial celebration of 1911 is noted.
