Living in the extreme north provided me the opportunity to experience the importance of knowing and understanding cultures. Nursing there was all about customizing care to fit with the First Nation people and the Inuit culture's values, beliefs, and traditions. I learned how successful nursing care could only occur within the individual's cultural context. I wrote this book, in a story-type format, to provide you with a taste of my experiences in Hay River, Northwest Territories, Canada. These experiences and adventures have continued to guide my family's life and my nursing career. One scripture comes to mind that sums up my experiences so well, "Love your neighbor as yourself." It is a commandment found in the Old Testament (Leviticus 19:18) and New Testament (Mark 12:31), teaching us to show our neighbors the love of Christ no matter our differences.
This book is not about Christian doctrine, nor is it a step-by-step guide toward your Christian journey. Rather, it is a book you can carry with you to guide you toward living a life full of inner peace. This book will help you focus on the things of the Lord Jesus Christ and to keep Him the center in all you do. This book directs you to how important your foundation in life is, as well as your belief system. The book also covers the importance of listening to the right people and staying grounded in the Word of God. This is followed by addressing your relationship with God and how God is with you no matter how difficult life may become.
