The new translation of the Order of Penance was recently approved by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and confirmed by the Apostolic See for use in the dioceses of the United States of America beginning Ash Wednesday (February 22, 2023). LTP’s edition of the Order of Penance displays the ritual and Scriptural texts with dignity and clarity for those who proclaim them and those who listen to them. The design eliminates page turns wherever possible, and the use of two colors differentiates rubrics from what is to be proclaimed. Complete wtih music and additional Scripture and prayer texts, these rites include:The Order of Distributing Holy Communion outside Mass Administration of Communion and Viaticum to the Sick by an Extraordinary Minister Various Forms of Worship of the Most Holy Eucharist This ritual edition includes an appendix with newly engraved solemn tones for texts that may be chanted by both ordained and lay ministers during the Order of Distributing Holy Communion outside Mass. The musical notation was original published in The Roman Missal and additional chants have been pointed for use by lay ministers. The chants include: the sign of the cross, various forms of the greeting, Invitaion and conclusion to the Penitential Act, Penitential Act, forms II and III, the Lord's Prayer with its invitation, tone for the prayer after Communion, the final blessing and dismissal.The appendix also includes a variety of hymns in Gregorian chant notation for use during the Order of Exposition and Benediction. These hymns include: Pange, lingua (Sing, My Tounge, the Hidden Mystery) with the appropriate verses for Tantum ergo in English and Latin, Sacris sollemnis (Let Our Joys Magnify Sacred Solemnities), Verbum supernum (The Word Proceeding from on High) with the appropriate verses for O salutáris Hóstia in English and Latin, Iesu, nostra redemptio (O Jesus, our Redeeming Lord), Æterne rex altissime (Eternal King and God Most High), Adoro devote, and Ubi caritas. The materials, design, and layout provide a dignified means for those who minister with these pages. Features include: two-color printing to differentiate spoken texts from rubrics pagination designed to reduce disrupting page breaks three ribbon markers bound into the book acid-free paper to prevent discoloration over time casebound book with foil stamp on front cover and spine The cover image of the risen Christ alludes to the exposed sacrament in the monstrance, signifying that it is the risen Christ whom we worship and adore. The new translation may begin to be used on the First Sunday of Advent, December 1, 2024. The mandatory use date is Ash Wednesday, March 5, 2025.
