Deep in the magical semi-darkness of forests and jungles, through the impenetrable yet bright green of the trees, tangled up in tropical plants, rampant jungle vegetation, and mossy brooks, lies paradise. At least it does in Thomas Struth's New Pictures from Paradise, in which each oversize image is a mesmerizing but photographically distant haven unto itself. From Daintree, Australia to Yunnan Province, China, from the mossy valleys of Yakushima, Japan to the looming pine forests of Bavaria, Germany and the lush rainforests of Brazil, Thomas Struth has carried out his photographic expeditions. Capturing settings of so-called untamed nature, his astonishingly detailed images carry with them thoughts of environmental exploitation, the mystification of nature, and the possibility of nature as utopia. Exhibited in monumental print sizes of up to 8.75 x 11 feet, Struth's pictures are here presented in an appropriately large-scale format, accompanied by individual essays from psychologist Ingo Hartmann and art historian Hans Rudolph Reust, each of whom shines their own particular light into Struth's dense forests and jungles.

RE-INTERPRETING WHAT IT MEANS TO BE AWAKE The Hidden Revelation, a previously unpublished manuscript of Ingo’s, was discovered by Nick Cook in 2016 in a nondescript folder tucked inconspicuously among some of Ingo’s notes. Now, together with Beyond the Gods’ Devices, another undiscovered manuscript, it is published for the first time as Resurrecting The Mysterious, a posthumous compilation that delivers what we (that is Nick and Swann-Ryder Productions, LLC) offer here as Ingo’s ‘grand unified theory’ of the human experience (and, in part, of consciousness itself). This asserts that paranormality is part of an ‘expanded reality-set’ rooted in the relationship between quantum theory, us the observer and something infinitely more profound, even, that is fully described in Beyond the Gods’ Devices. The Hidden Revelation is more concerned with us, the immanent experience, the inward journey; Beyond the Gods’ Devices with that world, whatever that world truly is, that binds and connects us to ‘the numinous’ -- that, which, at present, science is unable to describe. For many, it may also make the ‘hard problem’ of consciousness just that little bit easier to comprehend. We certainly hope so …
The apocryphal story of punk and hardcore is narrated as a history of young rebels united by shared interests, values and a sense of equality. Through the example of the scene of Buenos Aires, Ingo Rohrer demonstrates that this unity is fragile and requires different practices of maintenance to ensure the cohesive continuity of the community. Friendship is the focus of these efforts, but at the same time it is also a point of vulnerability where the group’s dissolution and disappointment about the scene germinates. Ingo Rohrer examines how a local scene’s quest for cohesion is concurrent with tensions and contradictions. Beyond the attention put on the friendship in the local scene, the author asks what role friendships play in the local life world of neighborhoods and in the globalized punk and hardcore scene. Based on rich empirical data, the author suggests new perspectives on group processes and local/transnational relations with relevance far beyond the realm of these vibrant music scenes.

This monograph presents an experimental and theoretical inquiry into the role of sentential form and variation in the prosodic structure of Catalan. The empirical section examines intonational phrasing across sentence forms, including SVO structures with either nominal or sentential objects and structures involving clitic left- and right-dislocations. The results show variation in phrasing that depends on syntactic factors and non-syntactic factors such as topic-hood and prosodic binarity. The theoretical section uses Stochastic Optimality Theory to model the variation and frequency distributions associated with the observed prosodic patterns. Various syntactic and non-syntactic factors are represented by alignment constraints, which play a major role in Catalan, and by constraints that limit size and those that limit the overall amount of prosodic structure. This study represents a combined approach to prosody and syntax and is of particular relevance for theoretical and empirical linguists interested in the relationship between these domains both in Catalan and other languages.
