Recognition of the need for empirical research and interest in its findings are growing in psychoanalysis. Many psychoanalysts now acknowledge that research is imperative to try to deal with the factors propelling the diminution in status and prestige of the discipline, as well as the number of patients in intensive psychoanalytic treatment. In addition, there is increased pressure to expose and acquaint candidates with analytic research in the course of their education. From Psychoanalytic Narrative to Empirical Single Case Research revivifies the experimental potential of psychoanalysis by focusing a number of structured research methods on a single case study. Drs. Kächele, Schachter, and Thomä, in tandem with the Ulm Psychoanalytic Process Research Study Group, bring their formidable tools and knowledge to bear on Amalia X, a former patient of Dr. Thomä’s, whose case history is well-documented, preserved and available for formal empirical study. After providing an intensive review of the problematic aspects of clinical psychoanalytic research and an exegesis on the use of the case study itself, the specific case history of Amalia X, which dominates and centers the remainder of the book, is thoroughly examined. The following two chapters – utilizing clinical and linguistic models, respectively – deconstruct Amalia’s psychopathology along a variety of methodological axes in an effort not only to uncover the roots of her presenting symptoms, but also to reify and validate the strange bedfellows of psychoanalysis and empiricism in general. The book would be incomplete, however, without its final chapter, which provides suggestions and insights into the clinical applications and implications of their combined research.

A basic issue for all those essaying to write comprehensive texts on the nature of psychoanalysis, whether oriented primarily to the exposition of the theory or of the technique of psychoanalysis, - within the American literature the books by Brenner and by Greenson come to mind as exemplars of the two categories - is that of the relationship of the theory to the technique and the practice. This issue is however not always brought into explicit focus in this literature and thereby its problematic nature as a fundamental and not yet satisfactorily re solved dilemma of our discipline is often glossed over, or even by passed completely, as if we could comfortably assume that Freud had, uniquely in the world's intellectual history, fully succeeded in creating a science and a discipline in which the theory (the understanding) and the therapy (i. e. , the cure) were inherently together and truly the same, but two sides of the same coin.

Inhaltsangabe:Abstract: Irish English (hereafter abbreviated as IE) has been the subject of many previous studies, dealing primarily with history, grammar, pronunciation and lexicon. Many works have also been published about the English language used in works of famous Anglo-Irish authors such as Swift, Synge or Joyce. However, little research exists on the English language used in works by contemporary Irish authors. The purpose of this paper is to give an idea of what modern written IE is like. In this paper four plays by contemporary Irish authors (all born between 1950 and 1960) will be analysed with regards to pronunciation, grammar, lexicon and manners of speech. These plays are: - The Factory Girls by Frank McGuinness. - After Easter by Anne Devlin. - Brownbread by Roddy Doyle. - At The Black Pig s Dyke by Vincent Woods. As will be discussed later on, IE is not a common dialect, but regionally different, especially between the northern and the southern part of the island. In order to point out some dialect variation, the plays were selected according to their settings, which were County Donegal, Belfast, Dublin and County Leitrim. This paper will be divided into two parts. In the first part, I would like to give a theoretical overview of the various aspects of IE, such as grammar, pronunciation, lexicon and manners of speech, and how they differ from Standard English (henceforth abbreviated as SE). I will commence by providing a historical overview on how and when the English language came to Ireland, which is essential for understanding the further development of the different dialects and accents. This introductory overview is followed by IE pronunciation and grammar in comparison to RP and SE respectively. Subsequently, the lexicon of IE and certain manners of speech, such as exaggeration, will be considered. The second part will comprise the analyses of the four plays, which were carried out on the basis of those features of IE outlined in the theoretical part. The analyses will provide a short summary of the respective play, and present relevant examples from the plays. Evidently, there are more typically Irish features in the text corpus, however these are not investigated here. The second part will conclude with a comparison of the findings of the four plays. Catching Ourselves in the Act uses situated robotics, ethology, and developmental psychology to erect a new framework for explaining human behavior. Rejecting the cognitive science orthodoxy that formal task-descriptions and their implementation are fundamental to an explanation of mind, Horst Hendriks-Jansen argues for an alternative model based on the notion of interactive emergence. Situated activity and interactive emergence are concepts that derive from the new discipline of autonomous agent research. Hendriks-Jansen puts these notions on a firm philosophical basis and uses them to anchor a "genetic" or "historical" explanation of mental phenomena in species-typical activity patterns that have been selected by a cultural environment of artifacts, language, and intentional scaffolding by adults. Situated robotics, allied with techniques and principles from ethology, allows the testing of hypotheses framed in terms of natural kinds that can be grounded through the theory of natural selection. This approach negotiates the "nature versus nurture" dispute in a radically new way. Wir, fünf Teilnehmer des P-Seminars »short stories» des Luitpold-Gymnasiums München, haben uns vor circa einem Jahr das Ziel gesetzt, eine Anthologie von englischen und deutschen short stories in Form eines professionell verlegten Buches herauszubringen. Nach mehreren Wochen bzw. Monaten aktiver Schreibphase kristallisierten sich einige Themengebiete heraus, die jeder Literat selbst entwickelte. Von Fantasieerzählungen bis zur Schilderung von Vergangenem, von der Selbstfindung bis zur Schilderung von Zukunfstplänen – alles ist dabei. Nach vielen Diskussionen und Besprechungen der Geschichten erkannten wir, dass eine Gliederung nach Themengebieten schwer werden würde, da sich die Geschichten voneinander sehr unterscheiden. Dies stellt jedoch kein Problem dar, sondern macht dieses Buch höchst aufregend. Je nach Lust und Laune können die verschiedensten Inhalte gelesen werden – auf Englisch oder Deutsch. Während Sie gerade dabei sind, dieses Vorwort zu lesen, können Sie erkennen, dass wir unser Ziel erreicht haben. Wir haben es geschafft, eine Sammlung von Kurzgeschichten selbst zu verlegen. Inhalt, Layout, Gestaltung und Verlag – alles Aufgaben, die fünf Schüler der Oberstufe des Luitpold-Gymnasiums München selbst übernommen und verantwortet haben. Wir wünschen Ihnen nun viel Spaß bei der Lektüre dieses Buches.

When its 'Toke' resounds in the night, they count how many times it calls, both in town and in the country, and this number determines how lucky the call is. Only an odd number is lucky: seven is already quite good, but nine promises the peak of success and good fortune. The author has spent 18 years in Indonesia and helped the young independent country in its development and construction on the sectors of telecommunications, electrotechnical and solar power engineering. Amusing and interesting events from his private and professional life during those years make this book historically interesting and also humorous reading for anyone who is interested in getting to know Indonesia off the beaten tourist track. The author and his famliy had tokeks in both their house in Jakarta and their weekend home in Carita. He often has heard nine successive calls, and the prophecy was fulfilled: Indonesia has brought the author luck and happiness.

The 'New Haggadah' is a beautifully designed Haggadah in three languages (Hebrew, English, Dutch) plus a phonetic transcription of the Hebrew. The New Haggadah contains an extensive version that includes commentaries, recipes, preparations for the Seder, songs and explanations. It also contains a short version of an hour and a half for use at the Seder table. Inside the cover is a separate small children's Haggadah. The drawings were made by Sam Drukker, Dutch artist of the year 2011, during one of the Seder nights at the Uilenburger synagoge. The design and layout of the Haggadah was done by Marit van der Meer. Several new melodies were composed especially for this Haggadah by composer Mathieu Daniel Polak.
