After the final collapse of the Soviet Union, the so-called 'last empire', in 1991, the countries of Central Asia - Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan - and of the Caucasus - Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia - became independent nations. These countries, previously production centres under the socialist planning system of the Soviet Union, have made enormous economic adjustments in order to develop - or attempt to develop - along capitalist lines. As this study will show, however, inequality in Central Asia and the Caucasus is widening, as the Soviet systems of healthcare and state provisions disappear. Rejecting the Cold War-era East/West paradigm often used to analyse the development of these nations, this study analyses development along the North-South lines which characterise the migration patterns and poverty levels of much of the rest of the developed world. This opens up new avenues of research, and helps us understand why it is, for instance, that this region is better characterised as a 'new South' - as skilled workers flood out of the territories and into Russia and Western Europe. Development in Central Asia and the Caucasus draws together detailed analyses of the development of migration economics as the region's oil wealth further enhances its strategic and economic importance to Russia, the US, the Middle East and to the EU.

Very simply, civilization jihad calls for changing a nation by changing its people and its values – gradually, over time. Stealth Invasion blows the lid off a corrupt, fraudulent program that has been secretly dumping Third World refugees, many of them radical, on American cities for three decades. Readers will meet the people and groups behind this shadowy resettlement network, which starts at the United Nations and includes the White House, the U.S. State Department, some surprising church groups, and corporate honchos involved in everything from investment banking and meatpacking, to Florida vacations and yogurt manufacturing. Americans have been kept largely in the dark about the radical plans to permanently transform their nation. Until now. Stealth Invasion uncovers how various cities have become refugee hotspots and examines grassroots uprisings where citizens have challenged this secret cabal and won. Securities lending as a way of short selling is not only suitable for hedging cash market positions, it is also an essential prerequisite for valuing options on the futures market. Their valuation according to the option price theory is theoretically not possible without securities lending. If, at the same time, no derivatives are traded on the market as a substitute, the valuation of a portfolio of cash and futures market positions is difficult to practice. This is unacceptable for the annual financial statements of banks, insurance companies and other capital collection agencies. With securities lending and repos, returns can be achieved with selected strategies that are above the risk-free interest rate for corresponding maturities. Market participants use differential arbitrage and compensatory arbitrage with different interest rates and premiums on the market to achieve excess returns. This is not pure short selling. Interest rates and premiums in the market should theoretically strive towards equilibrium through these transactions. Market participants thus promote market efficiency, and the resulting changes in premiums and interest rates benefit all market participants. This book targets finance professionals working in capital markets and wanting to expand their knowledge of the topic.

Shakespeare - The Taming of the Shrew, 11 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: Shakespeare explores the theme of comic sexual warfare between men and women in The Taming of the Shrew, says Francois Laroque (1997, p. 64). Shakespeare's play consists of a frame tale which introduces two interlinked plots. The frame story deals with a poor tinker, Christopher Sly, who is found drunkenly by a nobleman. This nobleman enjoys to play a joke on the poor tinker's expense making him believe he is a nobleman with all the luxury of servants, a wife, fine food and drink at his command. In this way, Christopher Sly comes into the joy of watching a troupe of players enact a "comedy of courtship and marriage involving two lines of action" on the order of the true nobleman. The first line of action is concerned with Katherine, the elder sister of the Minola siblings, who "is 'tamed' by a strong-willed, fortune-seeking suitor named Petruchio" (Howard, J.E., 1997, p. 133). The second, however, deals with Bianca Minola, the younger daughter of Baptista Minola, the father of the two. She is wooed by three different adoring suitors at a time and "eventually elopes with one of them without her father's knowledge or consent." (Ibid). Catherine Bates (2002, p. 108), however, regards The Taming of the Shrew as being a brisk comedy which is laid on to entertain the drunken Christopher Sly. Edward Berry (2002, pp. 123-138), nevertheless, sees Katherine being the shrew who is "mocked, abused, and tormented into submission by Petruchio (Ibid, p. 124). Edward Berry also states that "the play in which Katherine is tamed is a play within a play, performed at the request of a hunting lord, who uses it to show the beggar, Christopher Sly, how grand it is to live his kind of life"(Ibid, p. 132).

The excessive risk-taking at banks might account for the failure of financial undertakings, as well as to systemic problems in the European Union and around the world. The inappropriate design of remuneration systems in many financial institutions is reported to induce such risk-taking. The EU regulators have intervened through legislative measures which have been differently implemented in Member States. Such legislative measures face critics due to the restriction in banks’ freedom of business. However, this book will point out that regulations are necessary and can be justified in order to protect the common good of a sound functioning financial market. Nevertheless, the effectiveness of current legislative provisions is challenged. Therefore, this book will critically analyse the legislation of bankers’ remuneration, focussing on relevant EU, UK and German measures.
