Physico-mechanical rock properties are significant in all operational mining activities. This book evaluates rock properties by using empirical equations and soft computing techniques. It predicts various physico-mechanical properties such as uniaxial compressive strength (UCS), Schmidt rebound number (SRN), dry density, P-wave velocity (Vp), tensile strength (TS), Young's modulus (E), and percentage porosity (n) using multiple regression and artificial neural network (MLP and RBF) techniques, taking drill bit speed, penetration rate, drill bit diameter, and equivalent sound level produced during drilling as input parameters.
Starting off as the ruler of tiny Thaneshwar, Harsha (17th century AD) rose to become the powerful monarch of the kingdom of kanauj. He avenged the wicked assassination of his elder brother and the cowardly abduction of his sister. His biographer Bana Bhatta and the chinese traveller Hiuen Tsang were unanimous in their praise of this learned king, whose fame did much to create a glowing image of India in lands far away. If Harsha is remembered till this day as a great ruler, it is not only because he was a brave military leader, but also because he was a man of noble impulse, a great patron of learning and letters and he had great scholars like Banabhatta, Mayura and Divakara in his court. Harsha came to occupy the throne of Thaneshwar at a very critical moment in its history. The neighbouring kingdom, Kannauj, ruled by Harsha's brother-in-law, had been overrun. Harsha not only surmounted these difficulties, but also raised the small kingdom of Thaneshwar into the most powerful kingdom of Northern India. Banabhatta's 'Harshacharita' gives a detailed account of Harsha's life till he rescues Rajyashri. We know more about political and economic conditions of his times from the account of Hiuen Tsang, who visited India during his reign.
The book consists of ten articles written on important but controversial topics in astrology and Vedic astronomy. The answers for the controversies have been sought through science, wisdom and commonsense. This is not a book for the beginners or advanced learners to study astrology because this is not a book teaching astrology. It is more suitable for the experts and researchers in astrology and Vedic astronomy to think differently on certain matters of present form of astrology and Vedic astronomy. The beginners and the others can also use the book to find the answer to controversial topics. The most of the topics that have been discussed in the book, such as sidereal vs. tropical zodiac, Chaturyuga, Graha Yuddha, true vs. mean Nodes etc., are ill or misunderstood even by the experts. All subject matter (except the diagrams) given in this book is original and based on my own studies and understanding. Although I have already published on certain topics of this book earlier in magazines like The Jyotish Digest and Saptarishis Astrology the majority of the articles are unpublished and revised. Readers cannot find the concepts discussed in this book by reading any other book written by other authors. It is my sincere hope that this book will provide core matter to the whole astrological community, both Vedic and non-Vedic, to find answers to hitherto unanswered hot topics in astrology. Readers will definitely find this book interesting and thought provoking.
