These fifteen sermons are written for the season of Lent, beginning with Ash Wednesday and ending with the Ascension of the Lord. Most of them are based on scriptural texts from the gospel of John. Harry Huxhold preaches sermons that are punctuated with fascinating illustrations. He holds a congregation's attention to the end. Within this collection of sermons for Cycle B are such titles as: - Beware of Your Piety - Clean House - Easter Jogging - You Are My Witnesses Harry N. Huxhold has served rural, social service, suburban, campus, and central city ministries of the church over a period of 48 years. He has taught at the parochial, secondary, and university levels as well as in seminary and church forums. He is the author of many devotional and sermon materials and contributes frequently to theological periodicals and journals.
If we want to know how God will treat the Christian Church, we must look at how God treated the ancient people of Israel. That's the premise of Harry Huxhold's seventeen messages based on First Lesson texts from the Revised Common Lectionary, which demonstrate that the word and sacrament of Christian worship are as fresh as the promises of hope, providence, salvation, grace, and steadfast love that God first shared with humanity millennia ago. Titles include: - Days of Promise (Jeremiah 33:14-16) - The Child of Promise (Isaiah 9:2-7) - The Promise of Baptism (Isaiah 43:1-7) - The Fruit of Forgiveness (Genesis 45:3-11, 15) - Keeping the Glow On (Exodus 34:29-35) ... and more! Harry N. Huxhold holds an M.Div. degree from Concordia Seminary (St. Louis), an M.Th. degree from Luther Seminary (St. Paul, Minnesota), and a D.Min. degree (summa cum laude) from Christian Theological Seminary (Indianapolis). The author of fifteen books of devotional and sermonic materials and over fifty articles in theological journals and religious periodicals, Huxhold currently serves on the pastoral staff at King of Glory Lutheran Church in Carmel, Indiana.
Harry Huxhold's excellent sermons build on the epistle texts from the lectionary to express and explain the meaning of the Lord's passion and resurrection. His messages interpret the events of Jesus' life in the light of God's revelation to us through the scriptures. By sharpening our focus on the access we have to hope through the saving grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, he helps readers find the true significance in the events of his earthly life. Sermon titles include: Access to Grace (Romans 5:1-11) Live in the Light (Ephesians 5:8-14) The Outcome of Faith (1 Peter 1:3-9) Having High Hope (Ephesians 1:15-23) Harry N. Huxhold has had a wide-ranging career during more than a half-century in the ministry.
