The Bible, the Word of God, has been a part of my life. We had family devotions mornings and evenings, Sunday school, and worship services. These continued to draw me into the Word. When I was in high school, I started to read the Bible through in a year, which I have continued down to the present times. It was when I was in the seminary that I was inspired to mark a special verse in every chapter of the Bible. Some chapters were so full of gems of truth that I chose several. The prophets are a source of amazing truth about life and our relationship with the Lord God. The prophets have influenced my life in many ways. Isaiah is full of good news. Jeremiah speaks volumes about how I live. Ezekiel draws me into the drama of faithfulness. The other prophets have enriched me in many ways.

Thy Kingdom Come is a panoramic overview of the present reign of Jesus Christ at the right hand of God the Father and of the future consummation of that reign. It presents three authoritative apostolic New Testament guidelines for the interpretation of the Old Testament prophecies. It fairly examines the three main positions on the millennium and offers scriptural conclusions that incorporate elements of truth from all three. Detailed expositions of the 110th Psalm and the book of Revelation are based on the apostolic guidelines. Harold Patterson was born in Portland, Oregon in 1920. In 1942 he was appointed as a Patrol Inspector in the Immigration Border Patrol, and was assigned to work on the Mexican border in Southern California. His career as a Border Patrolman was interrupted by military service during WW II. During his military service he met and married Shirley Van Hamm in Denver, Colorado. In 1951 Harold and Shirley enrolled in BIOLA Bible College in Los Angeles. After graduation they accepted teaching positions in Taholah, Washington on the Quinault Indian Reservation. They remained in Taholah for 17 years and served the Indian community in various ways during that time. To upgrade his professional skills Harold earned the Bachelor of Education degree at Seattle Pacific University and the Master of Education degree at the University of Washington. In 1972 Mr. Patterson was appointed Associate Supervisor of Indian Education for the State of Washington, and served in that capacity for nine years. He also served as a lay minister and Bible teacher in various churches. In 1972 the Pattersons moved to a ranch at Brooklyn, Washington. Throughout the years Harold maintained a very close relationship with the Quinault people, and in 2005 he was adopted as an enrolled member of the Quinault Indian Nation.

Royce Hanson and Harold Wolman focus on four major themes: the federal government as the region’s basic industry and its role in economic, physical, and political development; race as a core force in the development of the metropolis; the mismatch of the governance and economy of the national capital region; and the conundrum of achieving fully democratic governance for Washington, DC. Critical regional issues and policy problems are analyzed in the context of these themes, including poverty, inequality, education, housing, transportation, water supply, and governance. The authors conclude that the institutions and practices that accrued over the nineteenth and twentieth centuries are inadequate for dealing effectively with the issues confronting the city and the region in the twenty-first. The accumulation of problems arising from the unique role of the federal government and the persistent problem of racial inequality has been compounded by failure to resolve the conundrum of governance for the District of Columbia. They recommend rethinking the governance of the entire region. While many books are concerned with the city of Washington, DC, Nation’s Metropolis is the only book focused on the development and political economy of the metropolitan region as a whole. It will engage readers interested in the national capital, metropolitan development more generally, and the growing comparative literature on national capitals.

The apostle Paul wrote that Jesus: gave some as apostles, some as prophets, some as evangelists, some as pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the building up of the body of Christ.
