Two-stage single-phase converters, including two-stage single-phase dc-ac inverters and two-stage single-phase PFC converters, are interfacing power converters between dc and ac voltage/current sources, which have been widely applied for dc-ac and ac-dc power conversion. For the two-stage single-phase converter, the ac-side power pulsates at twice the ac voltage frequency, resulting in second harmonic current (SHC) which might flow into the dc-dc converter, the dc voltage source, and dc load. This book clarifies the generation, propagation, and side-effects of this SHC and proposes the SHC reduction control schemes for the dc-dc converter, with different topologies and/or different operating modes, in the single-phase converter. On this basis, the second harmonic current compensator (SHCC) is proposed to compensate the SHC, significantly reducing the dc bus capacitance. In doing so, the electrolytic capacitors, with short lifetimes, are removed from the two-stage single-phase converter, leading to extended system lifetime and enhanced system stability. For having flawless SHC compensation performance, the port-current control schemes are proposed for the SHCC. Additionally, the stability analysis is carried out for the two-stage single-phase converter with the addition of SHCC. This book is a monograph combining theoretical analysis and engineering design, which could not only be a reference book for master students, Ph.D. students, and teachers majoring in power electronics but also be a handbook for the electrical engineers working on the research and development of LED drivers, EV on-board chargers, railway auxiliary power supplies, aviation power supplies, renewable energy generation systems, etc.
Exploration, Identification and Utilization of Barley Germplasm explores the timely global challenges related to barley production posed by the narrowing of biodiversity and problem soils, identifying elite genotypes which will enhance barley breeding and be essential to genetic and evolution studies. The book covers the utilization of barley germplasm for improving the quality of both food and feed barley as well as exploring and utilizing varieties of germplasm that are tolerant to drought, waterlogged, salt, and acid soil. Chapters are devoted to prime strategies for future research, including identifying barley germplasm by applying Omics, exploring barley germplasm by means of the Focused Identification of Germplasm Strategy (FIGS), and creating barley germplasm through mutation. Users will find this book to be a key research reference for both professionals and academics, providing a comprehensive update for established barley researchers that equips them with an understanding of the new methodologies needed for innovation and discovery, while also providing a helpful entry to the subject for young researchers and students. - Provides a one-stop shop to acquire a speedy overview of the main and recently applied issues of barley breeding - Provides newly-developed methodologies in barley germplasm research - Describes special genotypes from wild barley, including Tibetan wild barley, which show a high tolerance to abiotic stresses and carry different alleles from cultivated barley
Pudong is a district located at east of the Huangpu River and is opposite to Puxi, west of the Huangpu River and the historic city center of Shanghai. Since the establishment of Pudong New Area in early 1990s, the backward Pudong has become a thriving financial hub of modern China and home to the Lujiazui Finance and the Pilot Free-Trade Zone, and the Shanghai Stock Exchange. This book sets Pudong in a broad historical background and records the historical changes and various details and legends in the Pudong's development process. It reflects the tortuous process of China's reform and is the first book detailing the complete history of Pudong. It offers suggestions that can be popularized and emulated to achieve significant development across China.
TRANSFER MATRIX METHOD FOR MULTIBODY SYSTEMS: THEORY AND APPLICATIONS Xiaoting Rui, Guoping Wang and Jianshu Zhang - Nanjing University of Science and Technology, China Featuring a new method of multibody system dynamics, this book introduces the transfer matrix method systematically for the first time. First developed by the lead author and his research team, this method has found numerous engineering and technological applications. Readers are first introduced to fundamental concepts like the body dynamics equation, augmented operator and augmented eigenvector before going in depth into precision analysis and computations of eigenvalue problems as well as dynamic responses. The book also covers a combination of mixed methods and practical applications in multiple rocket launch systems, self-propelled artillery as well as launch dynamics of on-ship weaponry. • Comprehensively introduces a new method of analyzing multibody dynamics for engineers • Provides a logical development of the transfer matrix method as applied to the dynamics of multibody systems that consist of interconnected bodies • Features varied applications in weaponry, aeronautics, astronautics, vehicles and robotics Written by an internationally renowned author and research team with many years' experience in multibody systems Transfer Matrix Method of Multibody System and Its Applications is an advanced level text for researchers and engineers in mechanical system dynamics. It is a comprehensive reference for advanced students and researchers in the related fields of aerospace, vehicle, robotics and weaponry engineering.
The book examines corruption control in post-reform China. Contrary to the normal perception that corruption is a type of behavior that violates the law, the author seeks to approach the issue from a social censure perspective, where corruption is regarded as a form of social censure intended to maintain the hegemony of the ruling bloc. Such an approach integrates societal structure, political goals, and agency into a single framework to explain dynamics in corruption control. With both qualitative data from officials in power and officials in jail and quantitative data from university students, the book explores how the censure on corruption was created and has been applied from 1978 to the present. Though primarily intended for academics, the book is also accessible for general audiences, especially given its intriguing perspective and use of firsthand data on corruption that cannot be found anywhere else.
This Brief reviews contemporary research conducted in university and industry laboratories on thermal management in electrochemical energy storage systems (capacitors and batteries) that have been widely used as power sources in many practical applications, such as automobiles, hybrid transport, renewable energy installations, power backup and electronic devices. Placing a particular emphasis on supercapacitors, the authors discuss how supercapacitors, or ultra capacitors, are complementing and replacing, batteries because of their faster power delivery, longer life cycle and higher coulombic efficiency, while providing higher energy density than conventional electrolytic capacitors. Recent advances in both macro- and micro capacitor technologies are covered. The work facilitates systematic understanding of thermal transport in such devices that can help develop better power management systems.
