What makes a great school leader? Contrary to what many believe, the answer is not tied to a certain kind of personality but to specific behaviors and actions that have positive effects on student achievement—behaviors and actions that any school leader can learn and put into practice. Over the last decade, thousands of school principals have done that, by implementing “balanced leadership,” an approach that recognizes the need to both maintain and challenge the status quo in order to move schools forward. Building on the analysis that was first reported in School Leadership That Works, the authors of Balanced Leadership identify the 21 responsibilities associated with effective leadership and show how they relate to three overarching responsibilities: * Establishing a clear focus—keeping the work and the conversations targeted on the issues that matter most; * Managing change—understanding how to skillfully steer through the challenges associated with making improvements, both large and small; and * Developing a purposeful community—creating a sense among all teachers and staff that they are invested in student outcomes and that they can make a difference. For each of these areas, key points and specific practices are described in detail and illustrated with stories from school principals who have successfully learned how to become great leaders. Step-by-step tools provide clear guidance for readers who are ready to make the same kind of journey—one with the potential to transform them and the schools they serve.

This collection of essays is written to honour Robert Doyle, a teacher and scholar who has dedicated his career to preparing the Church of the Triune God's future ministers for a lifetime of faithful and effective service. The role of the Trinity in the Church is close to Robert's heart and thus has been chosen for exploration by gifted authors who know and respect his work, and who share his keen interest in this subject" -- From back cover.
While Chapman may not be as grotesque or baroquely blood-spattered as Clive Barker, his stories, like those of Barker, are overflowing with ideas and imagination, and the power and originality of them are often striking and many of the stories will surely haunt you long after you've closed the book. You're about to embark on a dark and wondrous journey through the mind of a very talented young writer. Be prepared to visit strange worlds and even stranger beings. Horror and violence abounds, but there's also time for reflection, to ponder some of life's most important questions. You won't always know where you're going or where you are, but rest assured, you're in good hands.Sure, they may be a bit bloody, the fingers raw nubs that resemble mangled sausage, but that's just because your driver is deeply passionate about his job and wants to give you the best experience possible. So sit back and enjoy the ride. It's one hell of a trip. From Brett McBean's introduction

A Taste of Grace is an easy-to-read page-turning exploration of God's amazing grace, demonstrated and illustrated by the teachings of Jesus. A Taste of Grace proclaims God's grace as irreconcilably opposed to the core values and beliefs of institutionalized religion and reveals God's grace to be an absurd and foolish sentiment that doesn't add up to the human mind.
This is a rock n roll fiction that spans 23 years and two generations of aspiring young musicians. Its journey begins in Reanton in 1989, a time and place where long haired music culture set the ground rules for the fickle teenage social scene. A young outsider with very definite ideas that the established style of music has become inbred strove to do something new. Mallory Kendall ran against the grain but was visionary and a few people saw it at the time, but the little things she said and did had a knock on effect that left the world changed. Those who stood with her and those who opposed her saw her become a god of rock in an historic sense and their lives were changed profoundly. As the years rolled on they came to terms with the mark she made and gained something they never expected, the respect of a new generation of young budding rock n roll dreamers with their own social scene. Old feuds run bitter and never get forgiven or forgotten, and where there seemed to be high times and the youthful spark of music super heros, along comes the spider. Lauda is a super villain heart and soul, and wherever he walks everything is sucked of life. His understudy Doc Nicks is set to become even worse except, wherever he walks things seem to heal up and turn out better. Doc needed to leave Lauda to take the whole world for himself, but when he did he didn't need the world anymore
In this new book in the Gospel According To series, Garrett looks at the theological elements in dozens of classic Hollywood films, including a discussion about what the new openness to spirituality in the movies might mean for the future of American cinema and American religion. (Biblical Studies)
