What motivated the evolution from a personal BLOG to a series of childrens books? With every venture into the outdoors, we find some new wonder of nature, be it from the changing seasons or the change in environment. There is always something new to find, so I elected my BLOG to share the pleasures I have absorbed from my frequent wanderings. I have recently decided to evolve a portion of my writings into a childrens level series. Only because I believe that children need some additional prompting into the vocabulary of science and nature and their curiosity is the key to their success. With nominal help from teachers, mentors and especially parents, curiosity may have killed the cat, but it will certainly build the child. I felt that these discovered wonders should be shared with the children before the wonders pass them by. Simple but challenging reading may require some mentoring to start, but that is exactly what I meant to create. Grandpa Hill (E J)

IMAGINATION IS A WONDERFUL THING. IT WILL ENABLE A CHILD TO TURN A GROUND BALL INTO A HOME RUN OR DREAMS INTO REALITY." The progression from PICTURE book to CHAPTER book is normal and effective in enhancing the use of IMAGINATION. Imagination eliminates the initial necessary crutch that pictures provided. Once the picture is planted in the mind, our children will be able to devote their concentration on the written word without the distraction of the picture. Illustrations, of course, are very effective in initially approaching a new subject, but the reading skills will hopefully develop more rapidly while concentrating on the written word. In developing the new readers' vocabulary, we should remember that a DICTIONARY or THESAURUS provides definitions and synonyms of WORDS not PICTURES, and will be often used tools in the future of our kids. Therein lies the primary goal in the evolution from picture book into chapter book format, while embracing the necessity of introducing the love of nature and science into our "GEE! A STORY FROM A FOREST" series of books. My kids taught me that. Grandpa Hill

George Washington's Smallest Army is a fanciful, feel good tale of three critters who live around Miller's Pond in Pennsylvania, and how they help George Washington at a critical time in the Revolutionary War. Before they help him, a wise owl teaches a young frog to speak other critter languages, and they later recruit a third critter--a white mouse-- to help them "civilize" the critters around the pond. They save the life of a large wolf, and later meet George Washington who has just been chased out of New Jersey by the Redcoats. At this point they create a clever plan that helps George build confidence to later cross the Delaware River and defeat the Redcoats at Trenton and Princeton. The story is consistent with historic accounts of the Revolutionary War, and one must wonder, did it really happen this way? It's possible, maybe.

The aim of this volume originally was to occupy my time during the start of and worst of the Pandemic of 2020. As I started, I realized that I could write. For me writing was like surgery without anesthesia. The subject of the volume was to allow others to perhaps learn from my self-induced pain and pain brought by others, Although the sentiments are true to my heart, the examples used and people referred to are not meant to be actual history but lessons and teachings. The aim was not to generate money from my endeavors. It was to give those now and forever life lessons. All net proceeds will be directed to charitable endeavors. I do hope that these pages which follow serve to satisfy this dream.

Maine's Appalachian Trail: How Seniors Made Section Hiking Easier By: Harvey A. Dennenberg Of the fourteen states traversed by the Appalachian Trail (AT), Maine is considered the most difficult to hike because of its rugged, steep terrain. So, how were “GrandPa Walking” and his fellow seniors able to hike Maine’s treacherous peaks? With proper planning and resources, it is possible for seniors, even those in their seventies, to hike the AT in Maine. In this book, GrandPa Walking shares the specific gear and creative routes he and other younger seniors used in order to day hike and limit their overnight backpacking stays. He also provides directions and GPS coordinates for little-known access points. The author has hiked the entire AT over thirteen-seasons of which Maine’s AT was hiked during part of June and July for eight of those seasons. Even those not looking to hike the AT will enjoy this account of the author’s journey through rugged Maine’s AT.
What could possibly have motivated a comfortably retired ninety-year-old former engineer to write a book titled How to Become Truly Wealthy? I was troubled seeing so many young Americans following their peers into bad life decisions, crushing debt, poor behavior, and a flawed idea of what true wealth is. I wrote this book to tell my grandchildren and great-grandchildren what I wish someone had told me when I was young. It is my sincere hope that anyone that feels the same way about their children or grandchildren (or themselves) might benefit from this effort as well. I have been blessed with many years' worth of experiences and the wisdom they bring. This book is my way of giving back what I can-by passing it on to you. As I explain within these covers, human wealth is measured by much more than just money. You and your brain are the most important wealth you have. I truly hope that you will join me to learn much more and that you enjoy the journey! This book is divided into the following parts: Wealth vs. Money How to Grow Your Human Wealth How to Become Financially Wealthy Protect Your Wealth: Future Concerns Appendices
After my parents separated, my mom and I moved into my grandparents' home. During this change in my life, my grandpa gave me a very special gift. It was not of material value, but rather the gifts of kindness, love, and imagination. Through dozens of letters that were left for me inside a small, white mailbox, my grandpa created a magical world as seen through the eyes of a wise old woodchuck named Woody. These letters, which often arrived every day, provided me with a sense of hope and expectation. Stories that captivated me as a four-year-old are now valuable life lessons. The adventures of Woody and his friends help me to cherish my childhood and keep the spirit of Grandpa close to my heart." -Beth

Based on the Webby award-winning Instagram account Drawings for My Grandchildren, this beautifully-illustrated book celebrates the special love shared between grandparents and their grandchildren. Like many grandparents wishing to stay close to their grandchildren in a world in which so many families are spread across the globe, Korean grandparents Grandpa Chan and Grandma Marina, decided to learn how to use Instagram as a way to stay connected. What started as an intimate family project, their Instagram page @drawings_for_my_grandchildren has attracted a large following and their story has been featured in major press around the world. This book inspired by their Instagram page features Chan's watercolors accompanied by Marina's texts. Whether it's to celebrate Astro becoming a big brother to Lua or to share the story of how the grandparents met for the first time and fell in love during their college years, Looking Back Life was Beautiful echoes with the kind of family love that spans generations and traverses geography. A testament to the great wisdom only grandparents can provide to younger generations, Looking Back Life Was Beautiful will inspire families to always stay close and connected.
