In this IBM® Redbooks® publication, we discuss CICS®, which stands for Customer Information Control System. It is a general-purpose transaction processing subsystem for the z/OS® operating system. CICS provides services for running an application online where, users submit requests to run applications simultaneously. CICS manages sharing resources, the integrity of data, and prioritizes execution with fast response. CICS authorizes users, allocates resources (real storage and cycles), and passes on database requests by the application to the appropriate database manager, such as DB2®. We review the history of CICS and why it was created. We review the CICS architecture and discuss how to create an application in CICS. CICS provides a secure, transactional environment for applications that are written in several languages. We discuss the CICS-supported languages and each language's advantages in this Redbooks publication. We analyze situations from a system programmer's viewpoint, including how the systems programmer can use CICS facilities and services to customize the system, design CICS for recovery, and manage performance. CICS Data access and where the data is stored, including Temporary storage queues, VSAM RLS, DB2, IMSTM, and many others are also discussed.
IBM® Customer Information Control System (CICS®) Explorer is the new face of CICS Integration point for CICS tooling with rich CICS views, data, and methods. Are you looking for new ways to accelerate the transfer of knowledge, skills, and best practices to the next generation of technical staff and experts? Do you need to maintain productivity and protect service-levels? CICS ExplorerTM and System z® lead the way to platform simplification. IBM CICS Explorer has a common, intuitive, Eclipse-based environment for architects, developers, administrators, system programmers, and operators. The task-oriented views provide integrated access to a broad range of data and control capabilities, and it also has powerful, context-sensitive resource editors. Integration point for CICS TS, CICS Tools, CICS TG, PD Tools, and Rational® Tools are extensible by independent software vendors (ISV), system integrators (SI), and customers who use our Software Development Kit. In this IBM Redbooks® publication, we focus on the new CICS Explorer. The first part of the book is an overview of the CICS Explorer along with all of the CICS Tools' plug-ins. In the second part of the book, we focus on several scenarios in which you can use the CICS Explorer with the CICS Tools plug-ins to resolve various problems.
Experts develop a biblical theology for family ministry to help churches reach all types of families today, from traditional nuclear homes to single-parent, blended, and gay-partner families, and beyond.

Witty and irreverent, informative and provocative, Cheesemonger: A Life on the Wedge is the highly readable story of Gordon Edgar's unlikely career as a cheesemonger at San Francisco's worker-owned Rainbow Grocery Cooperative. A former punk-rock political activist, Edgar bluffed his way into his cheese job knowing almost nothing, but quickly discovered a whole world of amazing artisan cheeses. There he developed a deep understanding and respect for the styles, producers, animals, and techniques that go into making great cheese. With a refreshingly unpretentious sensibility, Edgar intertwines his own life story with his ongoing love affair with cheese, and offers readers an unflinching, highly entertaining on-the-ground look at America's growing cheese movement. From problem customers to animal rights, business ethics to taste epiphanies, this book offers something for everyone, including cheese profiles and recommendations for selecting the very best-not just the most expensive-cheeses from the United States and around the world and a look at the struggles dairy farmers face in their attempts to stay on and make their living from the land. Edgar-a smart, progressive cheese man with an activist's edge-enlightens and delights with his view of the world from behind the cheese counter and his appreciation for the skill and tradition that go into a good wedge of Morbier. Cheesemonger is the first book of its kind-a cheese memoir with attitude and information that will appeal to everyone from serious foodies to urban food activists.
This book, first published in 1996, presents a collection of papers by Gordon Foxall charting the development of the Behavioural Perspective Model (BPM) which he devised in the early 1980s and subsequently developed. The model offers a unique and original behaviour-based theory of consumer choice. In seeking to answer the question ‘where does consumer choice take place?’ by drawing upon behavioural psychology, Foxall presents an exciting challenge to previous theories whose emphasis has been on the internal working of the consumer’s mind in reaching rational decisions and choices. Bringing alive the important subject of economic consumption, this seminal volume will be of great interest to students and researchers in consumer research.
The production of this book represents a culmination for me of some 25 years of interest in the field of personality and substance use and abuse. In choosing the field of substanceuse and abuse for the focus of our research, all of the investi- tors collaborating in this research have been sustained by the awareness that the work we are doing has an important purpose. Substance abuse continues to have enormous impacts on individuals and families, and prevention and treatment - proaches developed to date have not always been as successful as we would hope to see. New advances in our fundamental understanding of the causal mec- nisms involved in the development ofaddiction may be necessary to advance our success in developing new forms of prevention and treatment for alcohol and drug abuse. The work in this book builds on the work of numerous previous investi- tors who have been drawn to investigate this topic. As you will notice in the extensive reference list, there have been hundreds of articles published on this topic. Although each of these references has added a small piece to our und- standing of the relationship between personality and alcohol abuse, the majority of these studies have been done on clinical samples and often involved no control groups or poorly matched control groups. Several important previous longitu- nal investigations have been conducted, but these investigations have usually not included general population samples or comprehensivepersonality test batteries.
Colorectal cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer-related death in the Western World. This Second Edition analyzes the genetics, mechanisms, and development of colorectal carcinoma and supplies the latest research and recommendations on the detection, treatment, and prevention of malignancies of the colon, rectum, and anus.
This study analyzes the overseas effect of the market force of US foreign policy toward China. Gordon Cheung puts forward the idea of "augmented market liberalism", arguing that the US was instrumental in making China a market economy.
This is a reprint of a formerly published book. It deals with the psychology and behavior that motivates people to make the purchase and consumer choices that they do.The book makes a major new contribution to our understanding of consumer decision-making.
As the healthcare environment changes, the need for outcomes-based tre atment planning becomes even more critical. This book guides the reade r through current outcomes-based research as it pertains to surgery. F irst, it gives a complete overview of the practice of evidence-based s urgery (EBS), with topics such as treatment planning, policy issues, a nd ethical issues. Then it gives practical, step-by-step advice on the methodology of EBS, with chapters on study design, outcomes measures, adjustments for complications and comorbidities, cost, and data sourc es. Last, it publishes the results of numerous respected EBS studies.
