The Indexing Companion, first published in 2007, gives an overview of indexing for professional indexers, editors, authors, librarians and others who may be called upon to write, contribute to, edit or commission an index. It covers basic principles as well as examining controversial areas. It is based on publishing standards, textbooks, and the consensus of the indexing community, gained from participation in various mailing lists. It discusses a wide range of document formats and subjects that require indexing, as well as dipping into new topics on the edge of indexing such as folksonomies and the semantic web. Some people consider indexing to be a dry topic - at the end of this book people should be thinking of indexing as a challenging and rewarding profession.

A large number of political plays have been written in Israel over the past fifty years, and they are perceived, by audiences and critics alike, as major interventions in the country's ongoing political debates; the result is that Israeli drama is at the centre of many public controversies. In this first full-length study of Israeli political drama Glenda Abramson shows that during the early years of the State of Israel most of its intellectuals were identified with the 'official' state interpretation of Zionism. After the Six-Day War in 1967 an influential group of playwrights, concerned with the evolution of Zionist ideology in the modern nation state, began to question the ethical basis of Zionism. Many young people failed by the school system are those who face a range of social and economic challenges due to multiple forms of injustice. This book provides an insight into the educational practices that work to re-engage young people who have become disenchanted with traditional schooling. It examines the lives of students and workers who participate in education sites on the fringes of mainstream education, and includes a rich tapestry of personal experiences from those who have been failed by their schooling experiences. The book draws upon research of international relevance conducted in a range of ‘Flexible Learning Centres’ and ‘democratic schools’ in Australia and the UK; it suggests that improving the retention levels of young people in formal education will require schooling practices to change.
