Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa, duque de Palma de Montechiaro y príncipe de Lampedusa, ocupa un lugar destacadísimo en la literatura del siglo XX gracias a su única novela: El Gatopardo. Un libro que es el legado universal de este aristócrata siciliano discreto y taciturno, que apenas escribió nada más. Pero en ese «apenas» tienen cabida algunos textos extraordinarios, recuperados tras el triunfo póstumo de la novela.
