What makes the oldest hospital in the United States unique is that Bellevue is a place from which no one in need is turned away. Bellevue Diary is a collection of short stories borne out of Dr. Monif s year of internship that collectively pays tribute to this great hospital. Bellevue Diary is mosaic of short snippets of stories. Mosaics have to be near perfect to work. Ironically, this one comes close. What is surprising that it works on multiple levels: a historical characterization of a place and time and the impact of the Bellevue Hospital on a young physicians professional and spiritual growth into which is woven a thesis of deaths ultimate meaning. Prior to 1936, Crohns disease was a rare and unrecognized disease entity. Today, the United States is the midst of a rapidly growing epidemic. It is estimated that between 800,000 and 1.2 million citizens are currently afflicted. The unanswered question is WHY? In the 1990s, circumstantial scientific data inferred a potential causal relationship between Crohns disease in humans and mycobacterial pathogen in domestic animals, Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis (MAP). When it was documented that MAP survived pasteurization and was potentially present in milk, infant formula, and powdered milk, a global precautionary alarm button should have been pushed by those who govern in the public trust. PREVENTION OF CROHNS DISEASE describes MAPs journey across the zoonotic bridge between animals and humans and the unique circumstances by which it allegedly produces disease.

While centering of a crime of passion with secrets, betrayals, and the legal battle, the book tells the story of a unique and complicated individual whose life situation ties into controversial, contemporary social issues. The ENIGMA is a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside the enigma reference. Its a murder (riddle) for a curious reason (the mystery) allegedly by an extraordinary complex individual (the enigma). Based on a true story, the real-life participants are painted as vividly as those who inhibit a fictional page-turner.
