A fact-based novel about the Battle of Arnhem/Oosterbeek. Market Garden was an ill-planned airborne operation to capture the main bridges over the Rhine in Holland in order to allow the 30th Armored Corps to sweep into Germany. American paratroopers were assigned to the two nearer bridges at Eindhoven and Nijmegan and the British 1st Airborne Division to the most northern bridge at Arnhem - 50 miles behind enemy lines. From the start it had been recognized by a senior commander as possibly being "a bridge too far". It will remain the biggest airborne operation ever executed. The First Airborne Division had seen action in North Africa 18 months previously but had missed out on the D-Day landings when its brother division - the Sixth - had been in the vanguard of those operations. Both Churchill and Montgomery were keen to commit this elite force into battle, but the speed of the allied advance after D-Day forced the cancellation of 16 operations, until Market Garden offered the opportunity to send the paratroopers into action. They cobbled the operation together in seven days using parts of the previous plans. In their haste to commit the troops, they made many planning mistakes and ignored vital shortcomings such as inefficient radios, the loss of the element of surprise, dropping the men in three daylight installments, and evidence showing that the Germans had based heavily armed troops close to the bridge. The operation was doomed from the start. The failure was heroic - only a small fraction of the force reached the bridge and held it against overwhelming odds - not for the planned 24 hours but for more than double that time, being forced to surrender only after they had run out of ammunition. Despite heavy casualties, the remainder of the force fought a defensive action waiting for the arrival of the 30th Armored Corp, but after a week, they were forced to withdraw across the river. Five Victoria Crosses were awarded for bravery during the operation. Whilst the three main characters are fictional, they are based on true characters. There really was a Corporal Bert, and the Caythorpe Commando really existed. We follow the three men through their training and share their fears and terror of their first parachute jumps, and then follows them into action for the first time. A picture of life in a Lincolnshire village in 1944 is drawn and we see the effect on the villagers when the paratroopers arrived and lived amongst them. The diary of the Dutch girl, who helped to nurse wounded paratroopers, whilst fictitious, has been vetted by a Dutch lady who herself lived in the heart of the battle as a child. The widow of an officer who fought at Arnhem as a member of the Lonsdale Force has read and approved the novel.

Louth, and his passions, like hiking and the Antrim GAA teams. The book opens with a heartfelt tribute to his close friend and political ally, the late Martin McGuinness.

While the implementation of evidence-based medicine guidelines is well studied, there has been little investigation into the extent to which a parallel evidence-based management movement has been influential within health care organizations. This book explores the various management knowledges and associated texts apparent in English health care organizations, and considers how the local reception of these texts was influenced by the macro level political economy of public services reform evident during the period of the politics of austerity. The research outlined in this volume shows that very few evidence-based management texts are apparent within health care organizations, despite the influence of certain knowledge producers, such as national agencies, think tanks, management consultancies, and business schools in the industry. Bringing together the often disconnected academic literature on management knowledge and public policy, the volume addresses the ways in which preferred management knowledges and texts in these publicly funded settings are sensitive to the macro level political economy of public services reform, offering an empirically grounded critique of the evidence-based management movement.

Born in 1948, Adams vividly recalls growing up in the working-class Ballymurphy district of West Belfast, where he became involved in the civil rights campaign in the late 1960s. When the unionist regime responded to the protests with violence, the situation exploded into conflict. Adams recounts his growing radicalization, his relationship with the IRA, and the British use of secret courts to condemn republicans. Adams was a political prisoner who spent a total of five years in the notorious Long Kesh prison camp. Though he opposed the hunger strike, Adams was instrumental in the mass campaign of support which saw Bobby Sands elected to British Parliament and Ciaran Doherty and Kevin Agnew elected to Irish Parliament. First published in 1996, this edition contains a new introduction and epilogue written by the author, covering Adams’s family, Brexit, and the peace process.

The book deals with the unbelievable mess we are currently in, economically. I have found a mathematical cycle in the Bible (book of Daniel) that ties in very closely with US history so far as well as what is likely to happen in the next few decades. This is mathematical and is based on the number pi (3.1416) and is explained fully in segment 1, chapter 1. It is also allied with the New Testament book of Revelation. The US is desperate for oil and fresh water and I believe the next US President (Hillary Clinton) wants, and she has said this in a major speech November 2013, a much closer relationship between the three NAFTA countries in North America. This means Mexican labor and Canadian natural resources coming into the United States. A merger between Canada and the United States is probably quite likely in my view, sooner rather than later. Another Segment deals with alternative energy sources of varying descriptions, and the last segment deals with something key for the global economy going forward: the population problem. This is not what you think, and my argument revolves around the fact that we have too few people (i.e., global underpopulation!) to be able to do the critical jobs required as the twenty-first Century unfolds. Finally, I wish to talk about pensions and why the math involved in calculating these spells a very uncertain future for the average American.

The purpose of this book is to raise the question again in light of more recent scholarly work--especially in light of historical Jesus research and the so-called New Perspective on Paul. The strategy employed is to find family resemblances between Jesus and Paul on matters that are both fundamentally important and distinctive and that can best be explained in terms of Paul's dependence on Jesus. Three aspects of Jesus' ministry--his welcome of the marginalized, his challenge to his followers that they would share his fate, and his belief that God was doing something profoundly new--are presented as the source of three corresponding aspects in Paul's thought--his welcome of Gentiles, his language of participation, and his belief in the present reality of new creation.

My manuscript is a historical fiction novel. The story line follows a young Minnesota farm boy into the army after the outbreak of the war. It follows him through basic training, jump school, and then on into the war. The book covers the Normandy Invasionthe battle known as The Bridgeto far up into Holland and finally, the Battle of the Bulge. Throughout the book, I take the reader back to Minnesota so they may see how war affects family and friends on the home front. All the characters are fictional. However, all the military bases in the US and Europe are factual. Each battle my characters are involved in are accurate by timeline and locations. Anyone who is a student of the war or readers who love this genre should appreciate those facts. However, as the novel is a fictional work, I have taken literary license to add drama and hold-your-breath scenes throughout the story.
