Although there have been significant strides to transform the demographics of archive and museum personnel, develop new museums and heritage institutions and heritage training initiatives in post-apartheid South Africa, the Eurocentric model of the archive, museum and heritage sector has largely remained intact. Despite the euphoria around the transformation of heritage in the beginnings of post-apartheid South Africa, it can be argued that the transformation of heritage institutions has been superficial and cosmetic with the ideological foundation of the colonial archive and museum, as well as Eurocentric modalities of heritage education remaining solid, largely unmoved, and under continuing challenge. This is the thrust of this book which reflects on the transformation of archives, and museum and heritage education in South Africa and argues for meaningful transformation of the sector through a decolonisation from its Eurocentric mooring.

The conferences were given to religious leaders, university students, the Reagan administration, and the Congress and leaders of diverse organizations in the United States. It helps us to visualize the process of internal transformations that Maryknoll, the most revolutionary missionary order of the United States, experienced at that time and the participation of many of its members in the processes of change of Central America. Through her interesting annotations, the authoress helps us to visualize the process of internal transformation that Maryknoll suffered, and the participation of many of its members in that process of change given a quote of martyrdom. One of the nuns who worked in Nicaragua with the authoress, Sister Maura Clark, was murdered later in El Salvador together with others nuns as well a lay volunteer. The book also offers a vision of the popular participation in the Nicaraguan revolution of 1979, an aspect little known and that the authoress was touched by. In 1992 she had to leave of Nicaragua and live in exile.

Clifford studied personal history manuscripts in archives and consulted printed autobiographies, diaries, correspondence, oral histories, interviews to probe the multifaceted imagery that has surrounded teaching. This work surveys a long past where schoolteaching was essentially men's work, with women relegated to restricted niches such as teaching rudiments of the vernacular language to young children and socializing girls for traditional gender roles.

Japan has faced widespread scrutiny for failing to properly address international parental child abduction involving its citizens. This book examines how and why Japan has come to have this tarnished image, its response, and how it might manage these disputes in the future. In particular, the book explores how Japan engages with international legal frameworks to manage international parental child abduction and what this means, in reality, for Japanese people and others who come under its wide umbrella. A focus of this examination is how the key international treaty, the Hague Convention of 25 October 1980 on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction, has fared since being introduced in Japan in 2014. Case studies of parental child abduction involving Japan are used throughout to illustrate the legal and social concepts discussed in the book. The struggles of both abducting and left-behind parents across fluid international borders reveal seismic social and philosophical shifts in Japan that continue to shape its legal landscape.
