These were the years of the high-flying 1920s and the dreadful Depression of 1929. The Depression years were particularly difficult, especially for my family. ... The end of World War II changed our lives as a family. It was 1946, and we again became a family—with Mae as the center of the hub. Listen as God's word speaks to you through the interpretations of a brother writing his invalid sister. Inspirational uplifting sermons throughout the church year are preceded by personal messages from a brother to his beloved sister. Each week of the church year Jerry wrote Mae, his sister. Included in each letter was a summary of the week's church sermon he and his wife listened to the week before. Each week brought a different lesson that not only helped Jerry through his life, but helped Mae hold on to a part of her life that was most important to her—her faith. Letters to Mae is a brother's attempt to describe his sister's virtues, accept her death, and instill a bit of those virtues in his readers. Letters to Mae is a book about faith in Jesus Christ and what that faith means and how it is expressed in action.
