Colonel Conor Campbell said goodbye to Washington, DC, the Pentagon, and the whole Beltway Complex. He had enough of the climb of success, the constant moves of a US Army intelligence officer, and above all, a failed marriage. He wanted to go home to the beloved Ozark foothills of eastern Oklahoma to seek the comfort of familiar places and live on his own land. Adair County had always given Conor a sense of peace, a place where four generations of the Campbell family had made their home after the great walk of sorrows, also known as the Trail of Tears. The verdant hills and secluded hollows of eastern Oklahoma held secrets meant to be retained only by those of the initiated. Generally regarded as one of the most remarkable composers of the second half of the nineteenth century, Tchaikovsky is unique in that he was the first outstanding Russian composer to receive a professional musical education, being one of the first students to graduate from the newly opened St. Petersburg Conservatory. Composer of six symphonies, concertos, orchestral works, eight major operas, three ballets, and many chamber, keyboard and vocal works, he also composed important sacred music, which is currently being reassessed by contemporary Russian musicologists who are able to examine materials previously restricted or inaccessible during the Soviet period. Like his colleagues in St. Petersburg, Tchaikovsky was deeply interested in Russian folk song, which plays an important part in his works. This volume evaluates the major studies written about the composer, incorporating new information that has appeared in literary publications, articles and reviews.

A week in Hollywood, on the company's expense account! A room at the fabled Chateau Marmont (Garbo's old suite, in fact)! The only problem is the subject of the commercial itself: a new feminine hygiene spray to be marketed to pre-adolescent girls. Hovering over all the proceedings in "Spivak in Babylon" is the genial, befuddled presence of President Ronald Reagan, the Leader of the Free World, who haunts Leo's dreams.
