Radioactive waste (above all highly radioactive wastes from nuclear installations) caused by research, medicine and technology must be disposed of safely. However both the strategies disputed for the disposal of radioactive waste as well as concrete proposals for choosing a location for final waste disposal are highly debatable. An appropriate disposal must conform to both complex, technical requirements and fulfill the radio-biological conditions to appropriately protect man and nature. Ethical, legal and social conditions must also be considered. An interdisciplinary team from various, relevant fields compiled the current status-quo and developed criteria and strategies, which on the one hand meet the requirements of optimal warning and prevention of risk for present and future generations, and additionally on the other hand meet the needs of what current society agrees what is expected to be allowed. This study can be understood as an advanced and continuing contribution to the corresponding scientific specialized debates, due to its interdisciplinary treatment. At the same time it serves as a fundamentally informing contribution to public and political debates, offering an easily comprehensible executive summary and precise content recommendations.

Globalization no longer means simply finding low-cost countries for sourcing, but has involved to include the opportunity for growth in Asia’s emerging domestic markets, specifically China. This development results in extended, truly global supply chains and thus places a higher pressure on working capital. Therefore, several definitions of Supply Chain Management already encompass financial aspects and demand a more integrated consideration of material, information, and financial flows within supply chains. However, more precise theory on “Supply Chain Financing” is understudied and initial implementation of related solutions in industry has only gained momentum during and after the economic and financial crises of 2008 and 2009. In contrast to traditional financial instruments for supply chains – for instance trade finance products which have been around for more than a century – Supply Chain Financing leverages larger and influential members of supply chains. These firms might, for instance, provide easier and cheaper access to financing for smaller supply chain members supporting their profitability through renegotiated and reduced purchasing prices. Echoing recent research results on supply chain risk management, other firms may prefer to take on a supply chain perspective and work on creating agile and resilient supply chains. In this context, Supply Chain Financing can be employed to ensure liquidity for crucial upstream and downstream supply chain partners thereby allowing a firm to effectively control risk while making the most of remaining growth opportunities in emerging markets like China!

Im Mittelpunkt dieser Untersuchung stehen die turkischen IntensivAdjektive (yeni - yepyeni, mavi - masmavi, sert - semsert, temiz - tertemiz). Die Regeln ihrer Bildung waren bisher unbekannt. Durch Anwendung morphophonologischer Analysemethoden konnten schliesslich im Rahmen dieser Arbeit auf der Basis eines umfassenden Korpus die Bildungsregeln herausgefunden, beschrieben und erklart werden. Ihnen liegt das Kontrastprinzip der Identitatsvermeidung zugrunde, d.h. die Bildung dieser emphatischen Adjektive beruht auf der Vorschaltung eines Morphems, das durch besondere Segmentierung - Reduplikation einer (Teil)Silbe, die durch kontrastreiches Zusatzmaterial aus der Menge der Laute {p, s, m, r} geschlossen wird - und durch eine fur das Turkische aussergewohnliche Akzentuierung - Betonung der ersten Silbe - jenen Signalcharakter erhalt, der der beabsichtigten Wirkung der Emphase Rechnung tragt. Zum ersten Mal wird hier "Kontrast" nicht nur qualitativ verstanden, sondern auf der Basis von Artikulationsort und art der Konsonanten auf quantitative Weise definiert und so objektiviert.Um zusatzliche Evidenz fur die gefundene Losung dieses alten turkischen Problems zu bekommen, wurden 1. samtliche Reduplikationsformen des Turkischen bestimmt, klassifiziert und zum Vergleich herangezogen, 2. umfangreiche Lautstatistiken erstellt, 3. zahlreiche synchrone und diachrone Untersuchungen angestellt und 4. ein Massentest mit turkischen Muttersprachlern zur Verifizierung der gefundenen Regeln durchgefuhrt.

What the self is and where it comes from has been one of the great problems of philosophy for thousands of years. As science and medicine have progressed this question has moved to also become a central one in psychology, psychiatry, and neuroscience. The advent of in vivo brain imaging has now allowed the scientific investigation of the self to progress further than ever. Many such imaging studies have indicated that brain structures along the cortical midline are particularly closely related to self-specific processing. This association between cortical midline structures (CMS) and self is reinforced by the involvement of these regions in other self-oriented processes, such as mind-wandering or stimulus valuation. Those midline regions involved in self- processing also overlap with another network, the default mode network, which shows high brain activity during the so-called resting state, indicating that there may be a special relationship between self-processing and intrinsic activity. Although such promising groundwork linking the self and CMS has been carried out, many questions remain. These include: what features of the midline regions lead to their apparent importance in self-processing? How can we appropriately account for confounding factors such as familiarity or task-effects in our experiments? How is the self-related to other features of the mind, such as consciousness? How is our methodology influencing our attempts to link the self and the brain? The purpose of this ebook is to address some of these questions, including opinions, perspectives, and hypotheses about the concept of the self, the relationship between CMS and the self, and the specific function of these brain regions in self-processing. It also includes original research papers describing EEG, fMRI, and behavioral experiments investigating different aspects of the self.
